    I have the Jääkäripuukko 140 in carbon and the skrama in carbon. Love them. They hold an edge so amazingly well and they are BEASTS.

    Love this knife so much. 80crv2 takes a very nice edge (For more at least) and from what I have found it will cut way past 1095, I would expect numbers around and surpassing D2 (120).

    I have used 80crV2 puukko's over a decade now, i have had the 140 jääkäripuukko for few years and it's great I've used it stupid hard just for the fun of it and never had an issues. For bigger 80crV2 blades i allways have small micro bevel for ease of sharpening and avoiding edge damages, but smaller blades don't need it and they carve better. Allso these Blades are made in Kauhava Finland the puukko Mecca of the world. Nice timing on this review too today 6.12.2017 its Finlands 100 years Independence day.

      An even better knife. Check out the new very refined Fallknivens *mister smith* - *Fallkniven F1 Pro* (10 FNF1PRO10) *_$237 USD_* on Amazon.com
      They are amazing. I bought 2 of them & nothing come close to their:
      - steel quality
      - handle quality
      - build quality
      - full-tang with a "warm" handle (do you know why the warm handle is important on these knives)
      - heavy-duty "figure guard" I think it's called
      If money is an issue the *_$90 USD_* carbon/ *_$73 USD_* Stainless - *Mora Garberg* blows the Terava Jaakar Puukko out of the water
      with the same stats:
      - better steel quality
      - better handle quality
      - better build quality
      - full-tang with a "warm" handle (do you know why the warm handle is important on these knives)
      The Terava Jaakar Puukko seems to me like a military designed knife due to it's crude yet heavy robust built.
      It is a good knife but at today's higher prices of *_$68 USD_* (in 2016 -2017 Terava sold the puukko for *_$48 each)_*
      the Terava Jaakar Puukko has lost it's only plus point.

    I bought this knife in the 140 version and the Tops Bob , about 3 days later I sent the Bod back. I didn't care for Bod at all , this is a much better knife and about $60.00 cheaper. Pete , you missed out on the leather sheath , that thing is awesome,, I'm sure you've seen it in other videos, for the extra $20.00 or so , it's hands down the best leather sheath that I have . I wish they made a version of this knife with a slightly thinner stock, I would buy it in a second .

      Brian Follett It's much much better than overpriced 1095 steel from Esee Tops or Ka bar, i dont say its bad steel but they want too much money that it actually costs, i know that rowen does the secret heattreatment on it, but after that it has only 55-57 hrc which is too low(for me).

    This is a nice knife. I bought two of these. I’m not all that thrilled with the handle material because after several hours in the hand it starts to hurt, but its warm in the winter and grips well, but I don’t like too much grip when whittling. As for the steel, its satisfactory. It does not hold an edge as well as my Brothers of bushcraft knives working with birch or cedar. The sheath is fantastic both in form and function. Its a light knife and wears well as a dangler.

    Man, all these cool, cheap knives...but they're all around the same size and some cases hardness of steel as my Cudeman MT-5. But I want them! This and the Hultifors are on my wishlist. Oh, just a quick one. The stainless on the Opinel No10 is fucking awesome. I've been using it as a fishing knife; leaving it in buckets of salt water, cutting bait and washing it off in the ocean etc. I always clean and strop my knives when I get home, but forgot about the No10 one night. Next day, not a sign of rust anywhere. EDIT: I just checked the price plus shipping on one with a leather sheath and it's still only about $115 Aussie. I might check out ol' mate that makes the sheaths though...or make my own. I have the tools, just need the leather (sorry for the long-winded comment).

    Didn't think "knives having a baby", did give me a chuckle though. It's what my Hultafors OK4 wants to be when it grows up. Thought it might be a little too chunky at first glance, no problems so far and if finer carving might be needed I just put a Barlow in my pocket, job done.

    Hey Pete , did you see the New Gerber Strong Arm in the BDZ-1 steel ? Its like a 2 for 1 for you , because you can also give that steel an edge retention test , although I don't think its much better than the 420HC, especially in toughness, and I'll put toughness above edge retention any day, on a woods knife.

    Firsssstt finally, it looks like Peltonen puukko, i think 80CrV2 is way better than 1095, this steel is popular in Europe for bushcraft knives, i have few custom knives with this steel and i m happy, it wont rust like 1095 too. Do the edge retention test and we will see.

    • @TheAnonymousSword
      @TheAnonymousSword 6 лет назад

      Agreed, have used 80crv2 quite a bit now and it is way superior to 1095 for knives especially in the rust resistance department, also has good shock absorption properties. It definetly is a nice budget carbon steel.

    • @Lucatellion
      @Lucatellion 6 лет назад +1

      TheAnonymousSword For sure its budget stee,l but when heattreatment is done properly they can be comparised to much expensive stainless steels in terms of edge retention, i like other high carbon steels: O1, O2, NC6, ball bearing steel-52100,

    • @TheAnonymousSword
      @TheAnonymousSword 6 лет назад

      jupp, heat treatment is very important for performance. If you ruin a heat treatment, you ruin your knife, especially with the high carbide stainless steels this often happens with overheating during powergrinding. I also prefer high carbon steels for applications where there can be unexpected lateral stress to the edge, like in a blade for all-round field use.

    Will you please get rid of that micro bevel and then test the edge durability for us?

    • @rockets4kids
      @rockets4kids 6 лет назад

      Contrary to the web page which states this knife has a 23 degree (overall) grind, mine measures somewhere between 18 and 19 degrees. Taking a knife of this thickness down to a zero grind at this angle is just absurd. By way of comparison, a standard 2mm/0.08" thick Mora has an bevel angle of 22 degrees. That is something that actually makes sense and that is what you should be carrying if you want a very low edge angle.

    • @bodyoftruth7766
      @bodyoftruth7766 6 лет назад +1

      rockets4kids I've seen a lot of the even thicker spined Tops BOB's taken down to a full scandi and perform just fine. They run somewhere between 24 and 26 degrees though and not the 23 stated by the manufacturer of this knife. I wonder if yours is an anomaly being that there is such a discrepancy in the stated grind angle and your knife. Either way, it all depends on what and how one intends to use it. Some knives take and hold a full scandi better than others which is why I asked OP to test it, which he already did in a newer video. Thanks for advancing the comversation by telling us what we should and shouldn't be carrying though.

    • @rockets4kids
      @rockets4kids 6 лет назад

      There is a huge difference between 18-19 degrees and 24-26 degrees. Pete's other test was a *scandivex* edge, not a zero-grind. Obviously you can run the knife at zero grind if you want, but I have trouble believing there are any applications where you are going to need both a blade this thick and an edge angle so low.

    • @zoltanvonsomogyi7272
