Great video. Used the 100 grain version in a 6.5 Grendel to take a deer, and I think this will be my go-to bullet for deer size game in this cartridge. What was weird, though, is I got an exit but massive trauma on a deer that weighed about 140lbs. Impact velocity was around 2150 fps.
The pass through is most likely because the bullet is getting close to the 2000 fps minimum impact velocity. Still high enough to dump energy and perform and enough bullet retained to exit. What was your shot placement? Did it contact ribs or any other bones?
Buddy hit a coyote with the 6mm 80 gr at 430 yards. Shot was a frontal shot and it split the coyote open along the belly and spine spilling the guts and chest cavity out of the belly rip.
@longrangehuntinggroup7223 so I was sitting up on a hill, shooting down, but it wasn't a severe angle. The buck was slightly quartering to me. I hit the bottom of the spine, and the bullet traveled about 8" before exiting near the liver. The ELD-VT blew out half of one lung, sent lead pieces in the other lung. If you are curious to the devastation it had at that impact velocity, I can email you the pictures. You can use them in your reviews or whatever help viewers since this bullet is requested so much.
Thanks me too it was driving me nuts having a backlog of videos to edit. Now I got the new computer setup I’m knocking them out. The next video I’m actually pretty excited about doing.
Thanks there was a delay with the computer. Our computer took a crap on us so I had to buy a new computer and get everything setup and transferred over to the new computer. It was pretty time consuming honestly. Now that I’m back up and running I’ll be putting out videos again on a regular basis. This is the second video posted in 4 days. Gotta say though the new computer is so much nicer for doing videos. I have a 34” 4K monitor and it’s a professional gaming computer so it’s ridiculously fast. I wish I had bought one years ago.

Interesting, I thought the bigger cavity would make it open more. Thanks for sharing this. I wonder which 6mm bullet would give best expansion performance at lower velocity down at 1600fps.
A cavity can aid in expansion the problem is that if it’s too big then it is counterproductive and causes problems. The Berger hybrids have a big cavity that aids in expansion. This cavity is much larger than the hybrids. The 109 Berger hybrids will expand down to 1600 fps. The 108 and 109 eld match bullets will expand down to 1400 fps. The 110 A tips will expand down to 1400 fps as well. Those are the 4 top 6mm bullets for terminal ballistics and external ballistics in the 6mm.

Glad you found the video helpful. I’ve heard those Ruger Americans are pretty accurate for how cheap they are. What kind of accuracy are you getting out of it with your 87 gr v max load?
I have the same rifle and it loves the 87 VMax too. Running 44.8 of H4350 going 3350 fps. Probably shoots roughly 3/4 moa and has taken a ton of coyotes. I’m working on a load for the new 80 ELD-VT with very poor results so far.
@@KMV-49 that’s no fun especially when it’s eating up your reloading components. I just picked up 200 of the 80 gr eld vt to load hopefully it is easier than what you’re dealing with. I don’t know if it will help but it is designed to be like the eld match. Eld match generally likes 20 thousandths off the lands for seating depth. The exception has been the 80 gr eld match in .224. Buddy has a 224 Valkyrie and it has to be exactly 19 thousandths or it’s like a shotgun blast. As long as it’s at 19 thousandths it will hold 1/4 moa.
