@@danyeun01 yep, we asian kids mostly ended up steered by our environment to become something they desired and we ended up being depressed because we lost the sense of who we actually are. Such a classic asian house hold story

Agreed it's good advice and likely optimal considering the format of the communication. Had it been an extended 1-to-1 dialogue, better advice would be possible.

Now, procrastinating on identifying what you want is one thing, procrastinating on identifying what society (not necessarily your family) wants is another. Find out what you need to do so society gives you time to know what you want.

As someone who went to college without knowing what I wanted and what I was getting into, even after finishing Bachelor's degree, I can 100% agree with her advise. You really gotta think for yourself about what professional career you want, don't let others decide it for you.
I was the opposite, I wanted to become a history professor. But, by the time I graduated, I had completely run out of steam and the future looked bleak regardless of what I did. Lol
I'd argue that people should just go to trade school. If you graduate, you are guaranteed a good life and return from your investment.

People are glossing over the line "Have a clear understanding of what you want to do and what you can do." That's actually a really solid bit of advice. When going into school you need to understand what you as a person want to do but you also need to be realistic of what you can do. Just because you *can* get a degree in something doesn't mean it should be what you do or iif t's something you want to do. But you also can't just blindly follow your interests if they lead to nothing.
