Okay storytime, I'm anonymous so I can let it all out. When I was around 14 I confessed to a girl. I told her that she gives me strength to fight evils. I told her I only survive the attacks everyday because she gives me strength. And hot damn I thought that was romantic. She turned me down obviously. And my dumb self really thought I should go to destroy the world when I grow up to show her it's her fault I don't have enough powers to stave off the "darkness". That's the reason why I started to try to understand villains more than the protagonists. I don't think you'd want a friend like me back then lol.
