I have a Cort B4 Element and yes the panga panga neck appears a bit dry at the back when new. I just gave my neck a coat of feast watson orange oil and made it look more smoother and finished once applied. Use this type of oil all the time on fretboards and works well 👌 Apart from that the price you pay for Cort Guitars and Basses is pretty good for what you get.

I used to deal in Cort guitars and basses and I have never seen anything like this, it's even stranger since it's on a higher end model. The don't even let this kinda shit go on with their mini action basses, which are significantly cheaper. This is a very strange video to watch and the fact that it happened to you twice is even weirder. Anyway, hope one day you find a bass by them that changes your mind!

Mine had some of the issues shown in this video. Tool marks all over, dirty frets and some dents on the side of the neck. No sanding issues though. I was also a bit disappointed, but at least it plays perfectly.

  • @MotoMarios

Mine didn't have such heavy problems but the neck indeed felt rough and badly finished. It took 30 minutes with 400 and 600-grit sandpaper to produce the feel I wanted but thankfully Panga-Panga feels ultra-smooth and high-quality once properly sanded. The bass plays so beautifully though that I stopped caring for those 30 lost minutes of my life.

This is shocking. These basses looked incredible when I first heard about them. I've wanted to buy the 5-string model for months now, it's odd that you'd post a video with the same bass highlighting terrible QC.
I recently found a licensed Cort dealership local to where I live, so with any luck I can hopefully get my hands on this bass without having the same problems.
Sorry to hear Thomann are screwing you around like this, it's unacceptable.

I bought this bass in 2012, the only marks I have on it are the ones I have made, I think that in the last 9 years, the quality has dropped. I am sorry this has happened to you, my b4 is is very straight and I have no manufacturing marks on mine like in your video ( I inspected mine under a very bright light after watching this video and found none of the defects you unfortunately have on yours) I have been using this bass for 9 years now and it has been reliable and not one problem I have faced, I am truly sorry you have had these issues, and clearly in the last 8-9 years the same model has been manufactured, but the quality control has not been there when releasing these basses for sale to the public.

@@kevmac1230 I really don't get it. Cort is the largest guitar maker in the world and they make guitars for PRS, Ibanez, Parkwood, Squier, G&L, Avalon, others. Been in business 60 years, etc. I have a Court G290 Fat and it is impeccable. What I cannot get is that the guitar had tons of very visible, very deep sanding marks like someone was going to refinish the back of the neck. This kind of stuff would never get past QC. I think his guitar was a reject or knockoff from an illegitimate seller. It looks like it was pulled from the dumpster behind the workshop. Really strange to me. I live in China, and although Cort is not made in China, I have been to a Cort warehouse where I picked up my guitar and I got to see many guitars and basses and all of them were very nice. I never saw any blemish, etc. I am not questioning this guy and his story, I am just saying the guitar in his video looks like a junk guitar that certainly could not make it off a modern production line..

Hello Michael and folks watching the video!
I have good news about the 5-string version of this model that I bought. It arrived with no faults, no toolmarks, no scratches from sanding the neck badly and the fretboard was not overcooked!
The fret-job is cleaner than any of my other basses so I'm very pleased. I still can't believe Michael's bad luck and the terrible specimen he received from Thomann.
My bass was not purchased from Thomann but I haven't had a bad dealing with them before.
I wanted to share the good news here that my faith in Cort is still intact!

Oh my...! I have the same bass an love it to bits. Have tried another B4 Plus at Thomann, and that one was alright, too.
About 3 months ago, I've ordered a A5 Plus SCMS, because I was so happy with the B4 Plus. I've also ordered an Ibanez EHB1505MS to compare it with and keep the better one. Returned the Ibanez, kept the Cort, and saved quite a lot of money. The Ibanez had some flaws that were not acceptable at that (~1600 EUR) or at the A5's (975 EUR) price point.
However, I should mention, the Ibanez is also built by Cort in the same factory and probably by the same people as my B4 and A5.

I looked at the Sterling and Jackson basses, they're not for everyone. I like the B5/C5 Plus sound, it's like a vintage tone and thump but with a modern clarity. The other brands are too zingy and thin sounding to me (in the budget range). Cort has better QC than this vid, the guy was just so unlucky

That sucks! I've got the same model from Thomann and it doesn't have any of this issues. I love it, it looks gorgeous and plays nice. Even though it's clearly Cort's QC issue, but Thomann should not be sending this kind of crappy instruments to the customers, I wonder how did it pass pre-sales QC at all. Also, from my experience having any discussions with Thomann's Customer Service is a total waste of time, just use ther money-back guarantee, send it back and get a new one.

Here I was at Thomann looking at this bass, reading the specs, and thinking to myself "Naah, for that price? Something's gotta be wrong with it" And behold, I stumble upon this. If they fuck up on simple things like sanding and painting, I can't even begin to think how they fucked up the rest of crucial parts. It's a shame, really, because same as you, I saw the specs and I liked it and I had an epiphany and the skies opened up and I heard the angels sing, but it was ruined by incompetence :( It's sad. You know why? Because I can't really afford a $3000 Fender, a guitar that actually suits me, I can afford a $300 bass, and in that price range there is FUCK ALL to choose from. So I figured I'll bleed a little, save up a bit more over time, and I started looking at other instruments in mid range, like this Cort, and every single one of them was inferior spec-wise, so I discarded them and decided to take a look at this one, this was the last bass on my list, I am now officially a musician without an instrument. Or am I a musician at all anymore? I don't know, I didn't expect my old bass to fall apart, but it did, and now I have nothing, my search ends here. I am disappointed in this world

What the fuck are you saying?? He "accepted" a closed box with the bass inside, then when he inspected the bass and found all those problems, he sent it back. Same thing at the second try. He coudn't go phisically to thomann to choose and inspect the bass, like every other person worldwide who buy on thomann website, so how could he "inspect and try" the bass BEFORE the buy??

    • @keesketsers5866

Unfortunatly it happens. I ordered one at a shop and it was crap (b4 plus). Chunk of wood out of the side of the fretboard (filled with glue?) and the neck pocket was filled up with a piece of plastic along the whole side of the neck pocket. Even with that "shim" there was a huge gap at the other side of the neck pocket. I returned the bass and got another one. This one is much better but still has a damaged fretboard and one of the screws from the backplate was put in so crooked it actually broke if a piece of wood inside the cavity (which was rattling around in there). Also the side dots are drilled crooked at the 24th fret and one inlay is drilled wrong and filled with sawdust and glue. So quality control is non existent at the moment at Cort. Check them over GOOD when buying. The bass is amazing but QC is absolutely garbage. Worst I have seen in 20 years actually. Edit : forgot about dust under the finish and two black (burn??) marks that look like dropped hot solder splatters near the volume knob. This on the "good" one.
