@@pimcramer2569 Cort is the largest guitar maker in the world. They are the "ghost writers" for many other brands. If your guitar comes from Korea, Indonesia or China, there's a good chance it was made by Cort.

I feel like Cort Basses have so much character and are so great. Got a B4 that I used exclusively for 3 years until I upgraded my own "parts" bass. I am in love with their neck profiles. 38mm is where it's at.

I just bought this identical bass. It’s comfortable to sit and stand with. Cort paid attention to the ergonomics. The machine heads are great quality and the overall design and quality down to the finish is really really nice. It’s more than I expected at this price point. The pickups in my opinion are great. They provide a variety of tonal options that make for a really versatile instrument. No complaints here I’m a believer, if you’re looking for a really great quality bass you should seriously consider the Cort C4.
Tonally, this bass doesn't excite me at all, but the design and natural wood finish are absolutely beautiful.
The tone does sound highly processed and scooped on here but that's Patrick's way of doing things on these videos. Never just a bass plugged into a d.i. clean or into an amp
Average sound really no real sound signature. Beautiful instrument to hang on a wall to decorate your living room.
@@kalidesu the stock pickups are shit. Always have been. I have an older 1991 artisan B5 and the stock mighty mite pickups and preamp were terrible. They sounded weak, processed, muddy, and didn't let the bass speak. Replaced with EMG 40Jxs and the BTS system and I couldn't be happier. Can finally hear the wenge neck growl away. Mark Michelle uses them on his warwicks and the emgs don't take away from the warwick sound at all. Other options are Delano SBCs, Bartolini singularities, and Nordstands. Get the stock mighty mites or Bartonlini MK1s and the preamp out asap and your Cort will immediately sound like the high end bass it wants to be.

I agree. Had the same Bart1 pups in my Ibby SG 505. They did the job but weren't as meaty as other buckers I've played.
To me Cort basses remind me of Arias in the 80s and 90s. By that I mean overlooked and under the radar for the most part, but fine quality instruments that once you play them you love them! 😊👍
I have an aria pro ii magna 5 string jazz bass and apart from a weird 15 mm string spacing and the pickups not being suited for drop g it’s pretty good really good tuning stability
Your're right. It almost looks like an Aria SB body would slide right over it and you wouldn't notice the difference. 'Cause basically...there ain't none!

Nice groove Patric! loved it! I have owned a few basses including a 70's Vintage Epiphone. I now got the C4 and I just love it! Great look and tone and also weighs lighter that my other basses. It's rocks especially in active mode using the pre-amp for slap techniques. Worth every penny for sure
The Bartolini MK-1 are IMHO pretty good pickups, in a pragmatic way. Yes, they sound a bit boring when you play alone, but in a band setting they shine :) Take the Cort to a rehearsal or gig and you will be surprised!
They do not have a ton of character, but they work in every environment, every genre and with every amp. The Bartolinis didn't do it for me, either, in the beginning. But I've learned to really appreciate them.
Indeed, MK1s are really great in a mix, even at lower volume settings the bass doesn't disappear. I fell in love with B4, and boughr B5 also. They're one of the most beautifully and effectively built basses, especially ergonomics wise - it feels like they're a natural extension of my body - check out my cover clips
I think that it's also has something to do with the preamp. The markbass preamp doesn't sounds good to my ears. The mk1 pickup sounds great paired with the mk1 preamp.

Glad to see you trying out a Cort. I find that body shape super comfortable and balanced.
I have B4 and B5, those with more jazz-like hump below the bridge. And yes, the balance is perfect, and neck shape and wood are awesome
Bought a used one today; still got the stickers on the preamp; new strings and I can tell you this is a legend; the body feels so good and smooth and through a markbass tubeamp it sounds great

Cort artisan series are straight up amazing
I’ve been playing Cort 5 string basses for a few years now, I even have the economy line Action V plus basses, upgrade to a A Hipshot A style bridge, heavy metal knobs and tuners....these basses play phenomenal for the $$$! The body is ergonomic and neck is so playable it’s easy to log hours in without fatigue. Thanks for finally reviewing a Cort bass!!!

@@RadityoPramAdi just know ahead of time if you buy one, you may have to do some fret leveling and truss rod setup right out of the box...because the come from overseas kinda wonky, but once setup they are hard to put down. This is mainly the economy line the Action series, the Artisan series is so much better right out of the box in my opinion.
Cort should have definitely sent you the B or A series rather... Love my B5 Plus! Also not a fan of the Bartolini MK1 pickups though, weakest point of these basses for sure. I'm going to upgrade them later this year. They have a new model, A5 Ultra Ash, it has some insanely good specs! Fishman pickups etc. You should definitely check that one out.

I have one. Never goes out of tune. Plays beautifully. Can't think of a reason not to like it.

I have one with the zebrawood finish. I prefer the ovalkong. I have a problem with the tuners when transporting in the gigbag, but while playing, there is no problem. It does sound better in Patrick's hands than in mine. Nice video.
The problem is the gig bag.
I got a cort B4 11 years ago not too dissimilar to this. Cost me £500 pounds and it has always stayed in tune no matter the weather or the playing. The neck is my favourite thing. Especially at the nut. No bass will ever have a better neck but I do now prefere the old retro p bass or j bass pick ups. Cort is awesome and I'll always keep the one I have even if it isnt what sound I'm after now. Always served me well gigging.
A cort A4 was my first bass from back in 2005. I love the headstock notch, because it betrays the woods in the instrument in a uniform way model to model. Easier to compare what's going on.
I used to sell Cort products back in the day when I had a store, I liked the basses back then too. Guitars... nah not so much but I am not a guitar player. Unfortunately I had a hard time moving them because the name on the headstock did not say Fender or Squire on them. I found the Cort at the entry level market to be superior (IMO) to at least Squire, Epiphone, Dean at the time. I am glad they are starting to make some inroads into the market. Some day I would like to get the new B4 Element.
If you are not into Bart pickups, I would like to see you load it up with Nordstrand DC4 pickups and give another video.

I bought one of their lower end Basses about 2 years ago , the neck is butter
I had a Curbow bass which I LOVED...except for the lone Bart pup didn't sound very meaty. The fit finish and playability was PHENOMINAL. It felt like a SS bass and the action was as low as even the most pricey basses I've had w NO buzz.
Cort's are really great. And these new C and B basses are basically cheaper Ibanez SR 500-600-700 models

I used to have one of the Artisan A4+ that I absolutely loved. Hell of a lot of bass for the money.
It's worth noting that the hardware on the higher end models gets nicer, the one I had came stock with all Hipshot stuff.
I had an Ibanez SR500 with Bartolinis. I think they were MKs as well. Unfortunately I got to agree that they lack something... 🤷♂️

Of everything i have had a look at, i keep coming back to Cort because of availability and BASS for buck.

I can still remember borrowing a friend's Cort B5 plus approx. 10 years ago. That bass had lots of Mojo. Unfortunately I couldn't persuade him to let me keep it.
I've had a Cort Action 5 for 20 years and its been great. I had a B4 for a few years and really regret selling it. Just upgraded to a A5 plus scms and its the money. I quite like the mk1 barts tbh.

The 1st Bass I had was a Cort P-bass and I F*#king loved it
Great for jazz and funk. It's good for rock/metal if a good distortion pedal in placed in front of the amp to give the signal some oomph.
I think its good - dedicated ensemble bottom end bass with contemporary tone
The cut away on the headstock is the letter C for Cort.
I have a Cort Action PJ, very basic, but it’s a darned nice bass. I might hot rod the pickups, but it’s fun to practice with (bass newbie).

Nice video! I have a Cort B5, plays fantastically but the reason I don't play it as often is the Bartolini's. They're too "parpy".
Cort Action HH4 is a bass w dual MM buckers for 5 bills.
The B5 and A5 models have Hipshot ultralite tuners, the new B5 has the same bridge as the C series..

That's the way barts are designed. They're like a blank canvas to allow a good preamp to add color.
I have the Cort Action dlx 4 string with the same preamp, I've been really happy with it in terms of bang for buck. I am just about to try my new dödsmaskin II pedal by Pepers pedals with it and I'm pretty excited, it's basically a b3k clone with Pepers pedals version of the b7k preamp

Why? I'm generaly interested. Had them on Ibanez SR505 and Cort A4 and they were cool, a bit to bright and gritty.. but generaly okay pickups

Better springing for the B series as that has licensed Ultralites. Even better try and find an older Korean Cort, sold off my B5 as it wasn't as good as my ancient MIK C5P.
One day you should try to play the Bach prelude in C Major and move your head like if you were into Suicidal Tendencies, I'm pretty sure you can do this easily ! :-)
I was a bit confused during the wood section. I can see the maple core, but what else am I looking at? Is that the ovangkol, the mahogany, or the walnut? (Wings = Walnut back, mahogany center, ovangkol top?)
I feel the same about these Bartolinis. Bass looks great though

Nothing wrong with modern sealed tuners. They are smooth, they hold, and they last forever.
You should try one of those Slick P Basses from guitarfetish. Feel like no one covers those

actually, mk1 isn't real bartolini pickups, they just have word "bartolini" on the pickup covers. But Cort make a good instruments for they prices, it's true.

I have a B4 and the tuners are very good, Hipshot Ultralites. Have to agree with you though Patrick, the Bartolinis aren't the best.
Ovonkol(sic) has been used with warwick's for better part of the last 20 years. Great sounding wood if the bass was solid it would have been easily a 12-14 lb bass

I own a Cort and it's a phenomenal bass but I'd go in this case with the Yamaha. First they make great instruments and second the 600 line just looks gorgeous.

I used to have a Cort, very punchy, and very easy to play.
Cort basses are great. they wipe the floor with ibanez's and Jacksons and the like....which i guess cort make...lmao. But seriously i have a b5 artisan, and i will never buy another 5 string. its got the best of everything on it, and plays like a dream, you dont have to fight it.
