The reasons for traditional ebonite feeds are numerous.

  • Опубликовано: 28 апр 2022
  • This film is an attempt to convey why ebonite feeds have greater range and utility with a wider variety and scope of inks than plastic materials - particularly untreated plastic. It is also an attempt at finally enabling the camera to show ink as it flows through flex nibs and ebonite feeds in 4K to the extent focus permits with unusual light sourcing. Additional mention is made regarding the state of the art in plastic feed technology (hint: it is older than you think) and other feeds such as capillary flow through classic brush and felt to ink-ball systems.

@@aadityakiran_s I think the answer to most Noodler’s inks (crazier concept inks like Whaleman’s Sepia withstanding) is to realize that Nathan’s ideas on giving his customers as much product as possible for the money means that most of his inks are more saturated than they need to be, enabling the user to dilute with distilled water and stretch the amount of product even further than what’s in the bottle.

All I can say is, "Haters gonna hate!", Mr. Nathan. People want the *illusion* of choice, not the actual potential application of it you offer at a phenomenal price point. I can only imagine how tired you get of folks constantly saying stuff like, "Well, this $25 pen designed from the ground up to be disassembled and adjusted by my own hand to match nearly any potential use at the most reasonable price point possible doesn't write like my $500+ 14kt+ gold-nibbed hand-polished by an in-house nib technician Japanese/German job where the warranty is voided if I cough too hard with 3 feet of it let alone make it write the way I want it to".

A $500 pen comes with a warranty that is easily used if there should be a problem. Given that you didn't get taken by an Ebay grifter, you'd have that option available and know it.
A $25 Noodlers Ahab is a beginners pen. Rough cut in every way and requiring constant tinkering to function daily as other pens do without so much effort.

I have a second lamp on my desk with a blacklight bulb _specifically_ for using Blue Ghost & Whiteness of the Whale. I recently upgraded from my old, standard/basic (395nm) black light bulb to a 365nm one - it was a noticeable step up in price, but totally worth it! Basic BL bulbs emit semi-visible, near-UV light waves, which casts a sort of blue-ish / purple-ish glow. The 365nm bulb emits a truer “black light” - so there isn’t a visible glow, and fluorescent, reactive objects glow even more vibrantly. Def recommend for use with yr Ghostie buddy! D:

Yep, I no longer consider Goulet for any purchases and, I hate to say this, but I also won't be purchasing any Noodler's inks or products until they're no longer represented by Luxury Brands (the ones that gave into wokeness) and some of their original color names are reinstated, specifically Censor Red. Seriously... the irony of *_Censor Red_* being censored. And colors like Tiananmen and Park Red? It's pretty clear who the woke fascists are pandering to.
Nathan, I know this was a business decision led by the company you trusted to represent and distribute your products to the world. I respect you and your opinions greatly, even if I don't agree with all of them. What I don't respect is bowing to wokeness. The people that were offended have vowed to never buy your products again anyway, and now you've lost people that did agree with you. Look at brands like Goya that held their ground, now compare that to companies that have gone woke. I understand that the fountain pen community, unfortunately, seems to be a bunch of liberal hipsters. I think you best move would have been (and perhaps could still be) to stand your ground on ink names and bottle designs, then to invest in some advertising on conservative and Libertarian youtube channels and social media. I have a feeling that the majority of viewers on those channels would jump on the politically charged designs and the ties to the way the Founding Fathers did their writing.

My new Konrad wrote with it beautifully right out of the box (after I easily flushed it with some soapy water). Then I tried another brand of ink in the Konrad. In regard to the superiority of ebonite feeds, they have much wetter flow than plastic feeds and can be customized easily. But, from my experience, the sophisticated Asian nibs are better at controlling ink burps. For this reason, I find pens such as the Majohn Q1 to be good for everyday carry. Although the Q1 is a nice EDC pen, nothing beats my Konrad at calligraphy and art. Honestly, after digging deeper channels into the feed, it's impossible to get that pen to skip.

I agree. There has not been one plastic feed that I haven't been able to increase the ink flow on. When done correctly, plastic feeds outperform ebonite due to their durability and low cost of replacement if you DO mess them up.
I can buy 12 JOWO #6 feed/housing units for the price of one ebonite feed/housing unit. For that level of cost savings, it was in my best interest to learn how to mod plastic feed/housing units that don't stop working after changing the nib twice (Unlike weak ebonite feed/housing units).

When I asked a friend they suspected the Neponset was discontinued and replaced with the triple tail. Is this true?
And if it is are there any plans to release the triple tail in more than just clear in the future, as I'm not really a fan of clear pens and if I was going to buy a pricier pen I'd rather wait for one available that I want to look at for years to come?

And plastic feeds are more reliable overall.
This is the reason why they are the standard.

The most inexpensive/available ebonite feeds are all from India (AFAIK), but Pilot, ASC, and several Italian companies make ebonite feeds for their pricier pens.

Thinking of you, Nathan! Stay strong. I do not support all of this wokeism and almost willful misunderstanding of your products. It sucks! I’m sorry you’re being forced to rename most of your products. I will continue to be a loyal Noodler’s customer. And I will no longer be a Goulet customer. Done with them and their greedy ways. Much love and support to you, Nathan! 👊

Same. I am glad I picked up a bottle of both of the Goulet exclusive Noodler's inks (Nakihama Whaleman Sepia and Liberty's Elysium) especially noe that they probably won't be made anymore, but I doubt I'll buy from them again as long as this keeps up.

Sir you have done many demonstrations about how your inks are forgery resistant. But what about a demonstration of their archival ability? I do not doubt it but I would like to know how you test for it other than just time. I love your polar green but would like to know if the colour would be consistent on the page even after 100+ years in the future. Why? because that is the only way I can think to express myself that far down the line.

    • @theKashConnoisseur
      @theKashConnoisseur Год назад +2

It's a bit hard to demonstrate something's ability to hold up over time without time passing. But generally, archival materials are declared such because of their chemistry. Being pH neutral, stable under UV exposure, and resistant to degradation by ambient humidity. Properties which are rather hard to display in an engaging way. Showing the pH on a test meter is dull. Shining UV light on a page that doesn't change at all, also dull. Showing a page at 20-60% humidity sitting there, unchanging.... boring, right?

Maestro… a great video and demonstration,,, I don’t know of anyone who goes to this extent to show … how it works.
When I got back into using pens and ink about 2013 it was great to find Noodlers products and how you could take them to bits. Ebonite, what a great material for pens especially the feed but I couldn’t understand why you had to to buy a pen costing s t u p I d money from the big name pen makers to get them to deign to put an ebonite feed in ? Yet I can get a great pen in the UK costing £20 - £40 quid that i can take apart and fix it the way I want and put other nibs in if I wanted 💎
Will you consider re doing the video “The Magic of Ebonite“ where you do the ink channel then the air channel … with knives and a dremmel ,,, you posted it about 11years ago but the lighting was a bit too dark to follow 100%… it would be great if you would review it please 🙏… you only had a couple of table lights not the setup you’ve got now.
AS for the detractors and the whining whimpering bastards who float in an unflushed toilet with their mates… there’s a lovely island where they all should go , it’s called Phuket, or is it Phukum. ? Not sure.
Thanks for this video Nathan … it’s always nice to hear from you. 👌👍✅💯x💯

The amount of UV from a small lamp like that pales in comparison to natural sunlight. On the high end we're talking maybe 3 watts.

About a year ago I had an ebonite feed and housing that used to perform greatly and regulated ink properly. After a year of use and changing nibs and reinserting the unit into my pen...it no longer regulates ink the way it once did. I'm guessing that's due to the end of the ebonite feed rubbing away through all the flex nib changes and being reinserted into the ebonite housing. Now it just blobs ink all over the place and is pretty much unusable in any pen.
6 months since that experience, I've gone back to using the standard plastic JOWO feed/housings in my flex pens and haven't had this particular problem any longer. I've tried soaking the ebonite feed/housing in ink to get it to soak up fluid and plump up...no resolve, still dribbles. At this point it seems like the only solution would be adding material back to the end of the feed that seals the housing and is exposed to the ink reservoir. I've tried wax in the past and may give it a shot with this feed/housing as well...but I dont' expect much. I refuse to replace it, that would be $40 to start this cycle of stupidity all over again.
In my opinion, Ebonite is only superior if you do not modify your pens. Ebonite is far too lacking in durability for the everyday tinkerer/modder. Plastic is superior in every way.

Hello.. have you tried gently warming up the ebonite housing because it has a memory also you can see Nathan’s demonstration of the ebonite qualities in the video list… it’s one of the earlier posts.

@@mikafoxx2717No it’s not offensive. I’m a member of the Chickasaw Nation and I would have considered it an honor for my tribes name to grace the bottles of Noodler’s ink. By having our tribal names on things it’s keeping people aware of the fact that we as tribal citizens and tribal nations are still here.
