4th time riding my bike on a blind trail up in the local mountains I was in the zone absolutely flying and unintentionally roosted the shit out of a corner, no idea I had done it until all the mud came back down around and I front of me. Made me feel like a bro. Fast forward month I broke my rib riding....
If you really want to learn this, pump up your tires to 45 psi and learn to pump flat ground chainless in a parking lot or paved path. Once you can maintain your speed on flat ground without pedaling by pumping the bike when your drop the tire pressure down to 30 it is super easy. The g out and downward force compression while dumping the bike over is the most important part of it.
Love both Neil and Blake with freaking awesome sharing and tips in trail!! Perhaps can go a little more in-depth details on how to learn these amazing and essential skills before we hit trails?
Thanks to videos like this now we have all kinds of people coming to our great XC trails and skidding and doing this shit and ruining the trails... thanks.
Incredibly talented rider. I can’t take anything away there but roost requires acceleration. You’re not accelerating other than your pump through the turn. Still a very valuable skill to have!
I've been trying to roost for I'd say at least 5 years. My rear wheel will just not lose traction. The only way I have gotten close is by jumping my weight off the rear wheel and jumping/skimming my rear wheel to the side. I find this technique easier on the flat but impossible on berms. I know it is wrong. I've tried the technique described in this video but I just turn and my rear wheel follows :'(
A whip you are typically upright, and you can land sideways (kinda) A roost, you are very much so sideways, and pushing your rear tire beyond its limit. It is much more scary
Kicking out the wheel on flat ground is not exactly like roosting. When kicking out on flat, you want to be light on the back wheel and push the bike sideways with your hips. When roosting, you put all your power downwards, through the pedals (not really sideways) Since the bike is leant over, you break traction and the back end drifts. Without a berm, roosting will inevitably send you to the ground with massive road rash.
Niklas Svensson - thanks. I guess I’ve had a hard time figuring it out because when I need more grip, I usually drop my tire pressure and my tires grab the dirt better... 🤷🏼♂️ maybe because the dirt isn’t as dry??
@@MTBTrailRider Its becose when you turn the force is presing the tyer sideways, so to a point you have more gripp, but when it folds you are on the rim/sidewalls. For brakeing/climbing less air = more gripp. For turns its only true upp to a point and depends on the dirt and trail. Try do turn with no air or only 5-10psi and you will see what i mean ;) Dry just make the roost look more cool and makes it a bitt easyer when its loose. Same as riding in mud, but without the wetnes.. :P
It’s not like at this time of the year the trails aren’t getting absolutely hammered by all the shite weather and the masses of people riding while it’s in wet/sloppy conditions anyway, someone skidding into a corner isn’t anything worse than what already gets done.
I'm pretty sure 'roosting' or drifting will almost always be slower on a MTB, whereas professional rally cars will get a faster stage time from it (car much heavier than bike!) Drifting on a bike is merely for the fun aspect. Even though it destroys the track over time.
For everyone saying trying this bent their wheel.. y’all need to maintain your bikes more! Well tensioned spokes should prevent you from damaging the wheel under heavy side loads!
Best presenter on GMBN!
If you thought Richard Hammond was the best presenter of top gear.
Christ On A Mtb Good one!
@Cameron Clark life's tough, man!🤪
By a long shot
Fuckin oath! By a long shot!!! He’s hilarious and a boss!
"Is dusty and your friends can't see"

LOL
Pedro Miguel only if you faster than you’re friends 😅😅😅
Producers: how much roost should we have?
Blake: Yes

Keep it up GMBN, really helpful video!
I love the energy and personality you bring to every video - thank you!

Seeing Blake’s energy in the morning makes me stoked for the day haha
Blakes energy in this video is just unmatched 🔥😂
So satisfying to watch Blake rip some turns with style

i love this guy. He's mad funny and kind of weird, but it somehow draws you in.
Blake unleashed... pure chaotic energy.

Always loved it when Blake presents.
This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for
loving blake's energy! if everyone did as much digging as they do moaning about the roost, there wouldn't be a problem
But us diggers aren’t the ones roosting. Try it this way, if the roosters did the volunteer digging it wouldn’t be a problem.
And of courses thank you these boys for their passion sharing all these amazing videos! It's insatiable!!!
100% agree! Dude is the best!
This is Blake's best video.
Best Roost video on the interwebs. Facts!
Blake:This turn is loose
Australian trails: Am I a joke to you?
ross_ rusher02 why are Australian trails loose
@@sam.lamberttt lack of rain and most of the trails in SEQ Australia are just dust or sandly dirt. Always loose
100% agree with you on that. Aussie trails are bloody loose.
@@Zimblake you've gotta some up to SEQ Australia, South East Queensland, aka the Land Of Jarred Graves
@@ross_rusher0243 oath bro, might not have the biggest features here but loose corners have definitely claimed numerous crashes for me
Best GMBN video! Love it. Thanks
I thought we'd hear "Gagagagagaga Woooooosh!" somewhere in the video. Great content, as usual!
Best presenter hands down!! Blake makes learning fun
I love doing that dude
Intro was most excellent!👌
Definitely i like this guy on GMBN 😆
ROOST !!! Never heard of it before but i find the word awsome !!!
I love Blake!!

He didn't say a legible word for 10+ seconds and I loved every bit of it HAHAHA!
love that canyon.
Blake seems as happy as always. Haha keep riding Blake!
I see Blake, i thumbs up automatically
Great video, Blake you are the fu... master. your happiness in every video is amazing, keep going and rolling!!!!
The only difference in mtb and xc(dirtbike) racing is solely one you're the engine the other you have to hang on more.. I love both
The wraaap noise makes it so much better tho 🤔
Just what I wanted the learn. Thanks Blake!
Blake doing the low tire pressure sound kills me!
You are the best Blade , always top teaching👏🤟🔥
Funny as usual and usefull as well thanx Master Blake S
Awsome...Waiting for this video so long thanks GMBN now I learned how to roost...
You Are the MAN...!!
Cheers Saeed!
Nice! Planning on building a trail with that kind of turn🔥. Thanks for showing how it look's and how to send it!🤘.
Blake is the chef Ramsey of mountain biking...
Thanks so much I was so looking forward to this video. Was soooo due!
Nice roosts are epic
Blake you are awesome 👌👌👌
WE NEED MORE ROOST!!

So tempting to say nice things about this channel.
To be honest that brap sound make roosts better
This will just fold my rear wheel lika banana😂😂
😂
@Philip you sir, need to tension your spokes! I have never once in my life bent a rim from roosting. Whips on the other hand....
@@Alexbeauchesne1 i have to do this after almost every ride

very good advise ;) thx much
I tried this. I got flung out of the corner. It was nasty. Still looks easy though.
This made me laugh. Great explanation from a great teacher.
Glad it was helpful!
you are awesome....
Less than 30psi is not cheating ! It's simply the good pressure....
i tried some pushing into the turn and trying to really going into it, its really fun! now i just need time

How I imagine it is like whipping a jump but your on the floor. You can even do it on flat ground without a berm
It's nothing like a whip

Yo nice video! But please do another video with Jasper Penton! Would be sooooo sick yess.

Blakey you are my God
Nice Video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 love your content
I laughed so hard at this one! Love Blake!!! Great vid
How/why is it easier with lower tire pressure? I would assume with the lower tire pressure you typically get more grip on the trail, no?
So low that the tyre folds
The tyer fold easyer with lower pressure... Ever riden with a flatt? Its constant drift as soon as you turn a littel.
Niklas Svensson - thanks. I guess I’ve had a hard time figuring it out because when I need more grip, I usually drop my tire pressure and my tires grab the dirt better... 🤷🏼♂️ maybe because the dirt isn’t as dry??

I think he said "dont" lower the tire pressure as its cheating, its harder and more impressive to do at 30psi. (higher pressure)
Blake must be a hell of a bedtime story teller.
One sure fire way to prematurely degrade the trails
Yep, you have to wonder about the real expertise of someone who goes around tearing up the trails....
It’s not like at this time of the year the trails aren’t getting absolutely hammered by all the shite weather and the masses of people riding while it’s in wet/sloppy conditions anyway, someone skidding into a corner isn’t anything worse than what already gets done.
Do useful I've always wondered how to do that! Thanks so much!!
You can blind your mates, super fun! 👍🏽
Can you do a roost vs normal cornering speed test? Seen so many good corners knackered from roosting - wonder if it’s quicker enough to be worth it!
I'm pretty sure 'roosting' or drifting will almost always be slower on a MTB, whereas professional rally cars will get a faster stage time from it (car much heavier than bike!)
