Trip to Enkhuizen and the Zuiderzeemuseum (Museumkaart applicable). Especially in summer Enkhuizen is such a beautiful and lively town with a lot of boats and terraces around the town. And combine it with a boat ride to Medemblik and the museum tram to Hoorn, also with the Museumkaart 😊.
+1 for the Zuiderzee museum and the city of Enkhuizen. It was a big (for Dutch standards) and wealthy city in the 17th century , and it has a replica city hall of the one on Dam square in Amsterdam (now a Royal Palace). When done in Medemblik and after taken the museum tram to Hoorn you can take the ferry to Stavoren (the BEP GLASIUS), and visit the harbour with the statue of the vrouwe van Stavoren and take a pint in one of the most scenic bars of Friesland with a lot of wand filling paintings (it used to be called cafe Max, I believe it is now called de Schans)
Have you already been to Burgers Zoo? It's next to the openluchtmuseum in Arnhem. Next to normal open air zoo it also has several 'indoor' area's a bit like the big glasshouses you see in botanical gardens. The indoor areas are a tropical rainforest, a mangrove and a desert. And there is a big coral reef aquarium. It's great!
The butterflies and manatees at the Burgers Zoo are amazing, but we saw some enclosures for the elephants, chimps and gorillas that were very sad. And the mental wellbeing of those animals didn't seem good either. I've never seen (in the flesh) such a pissed-off elephant as I did in Arnhem. Much better to go to Apenheul in Apeldoorn next time you're in Gelderland. The monkeys run free and will even come sit on your shoulder. And the bonobos are in wonderful enclosures and seem super happy and playful.
Burgers Zoo is my number one attraction in Arnhem; the chimpansee colony is famous because of the book Chimpansee Politics from Frans the Waal who worked the latter part of his life in the US (as a US citizen).
I'm always happy that you come elsewhere in the country and show different things! In most Vlogs from non-Dutch people you only see Amsterdam. As if the rest of the country doesn't exist... You give a great picture of the life/architecture/museums/whatever of just about everything that is NOT Amsterdam!! Please keep it up! I enjoy it every time!!
The blacksmith's workshop used to be a part of my uncle's auto garage. His companion's grandfather owned the workshop and the family later extended it with the garage. I remember it was always packed with old bicycles when I was growing up. When it was moved to the Openluchtmuseum they literally tore it down brick by brick (and numbered them).
Fun fact: the medieval tower in Arnhem has the heaviest bell in the netherlands, weighing over 10 metric tons. . The park with its indian (indonesian) history is also very much worthwhile. The rivalry with Nijmegen is proverbial.
There's an excellent movie about the bridge in Arnhem and Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far. I actually was there during some recordings, except that was in Deventer. Yes, I'm that old.
Arnhem is a good choice! The only Dutch city with electric buses ('trolleybussen'). As said earlier, the Zoo next door to the Openluchtmuseum is also worth visiting. If you like stoofvlees, then you should check out Maastricht's (or better: Limburgs) 'zoervleis' and 'rommedoe mèt sjroep'. The latter requires an acquired taste...
I really appreciate how you both go through the effort to learn another language. A lot of people take it for granted that everyone will switch to english just because of them.
Thanks for posting another great video! If you like historical theme parks you can try for a next time the Archeon in Alphen a/d Rijn where they have different zones with each a dedicated time period. Alphen has been a Roman settlement and for sure that period has not been forgotten 🙂 When I was there the last time ( I lived for some years in Alphen ) they did an reenactment of a gladiator fight. The losing guy got his head smashed in with a big hammer. I love the glorious old times ! 😛
Great museum. I was there in 2019 in september. My first long walk without supports after I got a new hipjoint in june. Enjoyed it so much, I felt no no pain or so. And there was always the tram which brought us from one area to another.. Also a great museum to visit is the Aviodrome in Lelystad airport, fabulous collection of Dutch aviation history
Arnhem is a beautiful city with lovely historical parks (such as Park Sonsbeek and Zypendaal) and has great surroundings. Have you been to the Posbank in National Park Veluwezoom as well? It's one of the most gorgeous nature area's in the Netherlands imo, especially when things start to bloom.

So happy to see this video after seeing you and introducing ourselves to you at the bakery in the morning. My wife and I moved here about 18 months ago from South Africa and love living in the middle of the city in Arnhem. We still have so much to see in our own town. Sonsbeek Park is beautiful, Museum Arnhem is also a fantastic Museum and also a trip to the National Park Hoge Veluwe is well worth the effort. As for museum cards - definitely worth it!!!

My hometown!!! And to see it start off with the Centraal Station, which is exactly where I walked this evening on my way to see Civil War! (very well recommended)(the movie)(station's not too bad too)
My wife and I been there last weekend. We’ve noticed that the museum is too big to see everything in one day. And that is fine to us, because 1. We have a museumkaart, 2. In about 2 years we will move to Arnhem. (We are going to live in a newly build apartment block with people of different ages, a so-called co-housing project) We like Arnhem very much. There so much to see and to experience. Unlike the rest of flat (Holland) Nederland it has hills. But also the river Rhine. Very nice restaurants. And a refreshing cultural life; due to the Conservatory (Jazz and Pop) and Art Academy combined both with the Dance Academy.
I went there in 1996 and it looks like they've continued to expand since then. I had a great time on a sunny, chilly October day. My favorite was climbing up into one of the windmills--I can't believe how steep the climb was! I had some quite yummy pannekoeken there, but don't remember drinking the beer. (I live in US) So much to see and do in Arnhem area, hope to return some day
As someone that lived pretty much next to Arnhem for his entire life, it's funny to see how others experience it for once. Saucijzenbroodjes are the GOAT tho, glad you liked them. : >
The open air museum in Arnhem is outstanding ( geweldig) I visited it several times during summer and winter The open air museum in Enkhuizen is also very worthwhile. It is very nice to sail to that museum by boat in the summer months
Fun fact: My wife's grandfather was a steam engine engineer and worked on many of the steam engine exhibits at the Openlucht museum. They used his extensive knowledge to get a lot of them working when they were installed there. It is such a great museum to visit! For anyone who has an interest in Dutch history, it is a must see. My personal favorite bits were the windmill and hand cranked pumps we used in the 16th and 17th century to dry mill our first polders. My kids could not believe that is what we invented and used to keep our feet dry back in those days 😀
The gargoyle were they disney? I think one looked like Mickey and Donald 4:44 then pans up to what appears quickly to be the 7 Dwarfs? Is that correct?
I had been waiting for this video. Had seen you guys in the museum that day. Very nice museum, fun video to watch and good to see you are visiting and showing the nice parts of the Netherlands 😉
Around the Church...in the old buildings and the Church itself you can still see the bulletholes of WW2. You can take an elevator in the old Church and have an amazing view of Arnhem!
What I always tell about Arnhem is that you can park at "the edge of the city" near Burgers Zoo or the Openluchtmuseum and walk through 2 big city parks only crossing 1 small road and end up at the other side only a few hundred meters from the center; I think that is unique.
Great video, love my city! Ooh did you not go into the Canon van Nederland at Openluchtmuseum? It is underground at the entrance building. That is such an awesome addition to the park!
In a town called Gemert there is a boerenbonds museum. It is also with old buildings and customs. On special days they organize with bakery ,cheese making , butcher. Realy “ gezellig”!!
If you are on a museum spree, you could also visit the Zuiderzee museum in Enkhuizen. Lovely video once again! Oh and 20th of April there is the famous Bloemen Corso in the Bollenstreek. That is dfinitely worth a visit!
Although there are many differences but this reminds me of a place here in Belgium called Bokrijk, This place also has some old elements and buildings from the 13th century such as a school and a blacksmith's shop
Oh dear and you didn't visit Burgers Zoo! You definitely gave to. It is amazing! Puts all other zoos to shame. It has huge halls with an entire tropical forest, a complete desert and an ocean you can walk underneath, including all the appropriate animals and plants, and restaurants. It also has a big chimpanzee island a movie was made about and the same for gorilla's. The story about how the zoo survived the war is very interesting too, because Arnhem was heavily bombed and evacuated, after which followed the Starvation Winter when people had to eat flower bulbs to survive. I was born in Arnhem and my father's side of the family too. I lived near the foot of the bridge where the movie A bridge too far was filmed. Coincidentally I now live where my mother was from. Where the allied forces landed first. This was the "Market" part and Arnhem the "Garden" part of the Operation.
I think you may like the 'openluchtmuseum De spitkeet' in Friesland too. But I imagine it's a little far away for you guys. They show how people lived here between 1850 and 1950. It's pretty small though. So you might wanna combine it with some other things that you can do in this region.
Btw, there are a lot of open air museums in Drenthe, like: Openluchtmuseum Veenpark, Openluchtmuseum Ellert en Brammert and the village Orvelte has a number of museums and places to see how things were in the past. And Orvelte also offers plenty to eat and drink!
I like the 'Veenpark' in Barger Compascuum, near Emmen (train to Emmen, bus from there). It is quite a trip from Dordrecht, but it is a gem of a museum, a mix between a (much quieter) openluchtmuseum and a historical museum about peat winning
If you like this museum, then also go to the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. There you will find all kinds of houses that once stood around the former Zuiderzee. Many are related to life by the sea and fishing.
hmmm one of my favorite museums is the train museum in utrecht. Ive been there 2 times in my 22 years of live wich says quite alot knowing i live in twente. Other then this museum aviodroom in lelystad is also quite beautifull and i will recomend it. And ofc the marine and knrm musea in den helder and fort kijkduin in huisduinen. well thats all from me. Groeten uit vriezenveen/gem.twenterand
The time I was there I was very young and it was probably a school trip and I was more busy keeping up with the rest than enjoying everything. So the memory isn't that pleasant. Being on the spectrum, trying to keep up with neurotypicals is often way out of my comfort zone. But I should go back there some time and actually take my time. Some years ago I was at a similar museum in South Wales. That was fantastic! Some of the buildings in there have been used on series like Doctor Who.
Jullie enthousiasme is super. I am getting to know my own country better and better thanks to you. This video deserves: 5 Swaffels for Michelle and 5 Stroopwaffels for Alex. Leuk neusringetje Michelle! tot ziens...
Check out Burgers Zoo! It's on walking distance (or 1 busstop) from the Openlucht Museum and it's one of our favorite places in the Netherlands. (the only downside is the food, just like in this video).
You should also go to the prehistoric village in Eindhoven. Its a replica of a prehistoric and medieval village, complete with dwellings and demonstrations of skills used by historic people.
Few fun facts The Nederlands OpenLuchtMuseum has been a place for the people of Arnhem to hide in WW2. The Chinese restaurant, you passed it on the way to the "bakerij", had a depot of medication for all the people living there at that time. The Stone walls at farm houses meant you were wealthy = Steenrijk = StoneRich At the beginning of the park you see a house with just the bottom 3 feet stone. So they were also rich. At the school, the small wooden boxes you see hanging there were school "bags". Kids had their slate and pens in there. Was fun seeing you in the nice city of Arnhem!
The poffertjskraam is originally frim the village of Epe, which is located in the Veluwe region, about halfway between Zwolle and Apeldoorn. Every summer it was set up on a parking lot in the centre of Epe. It was moved to the museum in 2007, I believe because the owner retired. When I was a child, I often went there with my parents. Now I have to visit the Openluchtmuseum......😢
I can't lie that I am a bit disappointed y'all didn't use a short clip from 'A bridge too far' when talking about the John Frost bridge. Operation Market Gardes was a pretty big (and dividing) event in The Netherlands. While the south (everything south of the 'big rivers (maas/muse and rhine) was liberated the north headed for the 'honger winter' aka hunger winter. My late grandmother had recollections of breaking up tram tracks in The Hague for fuel and going out into the countryside to collect flowerbulbs to eat in order to survive. For those interested in the war side of things (or just want to watch 'cool stuff') I'd recommend the earlier mentioned 'A Bridge Too far' or episodes 4 and 5 of Band of Brothers.
You should try to make a monchou cake at home (not the dr oetker package). It is made with a bostogne koek bottom, topped with monchou (cream cheese) and strawberry topping. It is sooooooo delicious. And...we can see you make something and enjoy your home made recipe

Do visit the Japanese Garden in Clingendael Park in the haque. Be warned, it opens only for a limited time a year as the garden is very fragile. from there, you can go to Madurodam as the distance is not that far and easily to do with public transportation
Yay, that’s really worthwhile. Perhaps a suggestion for May 4, Dodenherdenking. Over 10,000US soldiers are buried there. And each and every grave is adopted by the locals. It’s massive and impressive.
My old-uncle was part of the group who blew up bridges to keep the Germans from invading. He was part of the 'verzet', in hiding for 4 years and also burnt a lot of papers containing details about the Dutch people. He operated around Arnhem. The city doesn't have a pretty city center like that medieval cities we still have, but it does have the prettiest park and a lot of history.;-) Did you know that they filmed 'A bridge to far' about Market Garden in Deventer (70s), because that bridge was more similar to the old one in Arnhem.
Next time try a fresh krentenbol. That's one of their best! In the earlier days of this museum these were the only ones which were freshly baked in a original wood oven. And you could smell it from far away.
Fun fact: Did you know that the white windmill at the beginning of your video originated from Dordrecht (and was sold & moved to Numansdorp prior to being moved to Arnhem in the early 1900’s) ? My great great great…… grand father was operating the mill at that time…. It is a saw mill, similar to what you see still in zaanse schans region.
it’s a shame that bourdain never did a proper video in amsterdam or the netherlands :( he only did an episode of his show “the layover” which wasn’t as good 😢 i’ll look up that episode of bizarre foods though! i’ve never watched it before :)

You should keep learning Dutch; you will have a fun time with the locals. Ps. I’m Dutch and I’d never heard of the openluchtmuseum. I want to go there now!
The recipe for Arnhemse Meisjes actually is known! In the seventies Roald Dahl (the famous writer) visited Arnhem and got a taste for Arnhemse Meisjes. He asked the baker for the (secret) recipe. The baker got soft on him and thought, well, a foreigner that wanted to make his own cookies... what harm is there. Not knowing who he was, the baker gave him the recipe. Roald Dahl once made a recipe book where he included..... the recipe of Arnhemse Meisjes! Sadly I don't own the book anymore, but it actually is in there.

The movie was filmed in Deventer, using an identical bridge, a bit downstream of Arnhem along the IJssel.
Have you visited Doesburg already..?
You should have visited Sonsbeek Park and Burgenszoo. In Arnhem 😅
Visit Bastogne Belgium. It's very impressing museum about WII
Great vid! If you ever return, my favorite bar in the whole wide world is Moortgat in Arnhem.
Next time you come to Arnhem do the combination ticket between Openluchtmuseum and Burgers Zoo its worth it the combination as Burgers Zoo is amazing
I work at The Openluchtmuseum as a volunteer with the animal care there. Too bad you didn't feature any of our animals, they are all sweethearts. 😉
Jullie enthousiasme is super. I am getting to know my own country better and better thanks to you. This video deserves: 5 Swaffels for Michelle and 5 Stroopwaffels for Alex. Leuk neusringetje Michelle! tot ziens...
😂😂😂
Check out Burgers Zoo! It's on walking distance (or 1 busstop) from the Openlucht Museum and it's one of our favorite places in the Netherlands. (the only downside is the food, just like in this video).
So cool!!! We were there with the family on the second Easter day. I'm born in Arnhem🥰
Mooiste museum ❤❤ ben er vanaf kind heel vaak geweest
Heb er altijd zo genoten
6:02 I think is is bechamel sauce
You should also go to the prehistoric village in Eindhoven. Its a replica of a prehistoric and medieval village, complete with dwellings and demonstrations of skills used by historic people.
Thanks for this great video again.
You might also like Zundert, where Vincent Van Gogh was born. The Zundert beer is also my favourite, a tasty gingery beer.
Few fun facts
The Nederlands OpenLuchtMuseum has been a place for the people of Arnhem to hide in WW2.
Go back to the museum during the winter!
great video again, thanks
The poffertjskraam is originally frim the village of Epe, which is located in the Veluwe region, about halfway between Zwolle and Apeldoorn. Every summer it was set up on a parking lot in the centre of Epe. It was moved to the museum in 2007, I believe because the owner retired. When I was a child, I often went there with my parents. Now I have to visit the Openluchtmuseum......😢
Epe is pretty cool.
Born in Arnhem love the place spend so manny hours in that museum as a child
As always nice video, lekker biertje, Top ! 🎉
Just curious, did you even been in the Zaan area? Like the Zaanse Schans, but there are just way to many tourist there ....
Jullie vlogs zijn altijd zo leuk om te kijken. Jammer dat ze altijd zo snel over zijn. 😢 . Soms komt het over alsof jullie altijd haast hebben. Please, show me more! 😉☺️
nee, we filmen gewoon niet genoeg. maar... deze video is 17 minuten!!! 😅😅😅
Do visit the Japanese Garden in Clingendael Park in the haque. Be warned, it opens only for a limited time a year as the garden is very fragile. from there, you can go to Madurodam as the distance is not that far and easily to do with public transportation
Have you been or even know about the American cemetery in Margraten?
we haven’t been but we are aware of it - we passed by it on the bus from maastricht to aachen!
The city doesn't have a pretty city center like that medieval cities we still have, but it does have the prettiest park and a lot of history.;-)
Did you know that they filmed 'A bridge to far' about Market Garden in Deventer (70s), because that bridge was more similar to the old one in Arnhem.
Next time try a fresh krentenbol. That's one of their best! In the earlier days of this museum these were the only ones which were freshly baked in a original wood oven. And you could smell it from far away.
ahh i was so close to getting one!!!
Where is the Sabelpoort or Sabel Gate, Eusebius kerk and Duivelshuis
Great museum! The little house from my grandfather has been rebuild there. Did you see it? "Daglonershuisje"
Point was missed on the John Frost Bridge. This is the actual proverbial 'bridge too far'.
Hey you guys! Since you are such foodies.. Have you ever seen Anthony Bourdain in Amsterdam? Or Bizarre Foods episode Amsterdam (The Netherlands)?
it’s a shame that bourdain never did a proper video in amsterdam or the netherlands :( he only did an episode of his show “the layover” which wasn’t as good 😢
i’ll look up that episode of bizarre foods though! i’ve never watched it before :)
@@buncharted I agree on the Bourdain one. Bit sluggish and uninspiring. Booze Traveler has a Netherlands episode that is quite nice. And the Bizarre Foods one is not too bad either.
We live nearby Arnhem have a nice Christmas
The station of Arnhem is beautiful. I wish they had done the same for the station of Breda, but that sadly turned out ugly.
agreed, i think breda is my least favorite station (other than like… lage zwaluwe, haha)
@@bunchartedsuch a shame and it was a lot more expensive (140 million compared to arnhem 90 million)
Wow so close to my city where i live 😮
Next time you guys got to come to Burgers' Zoo, in my opinion Netherlands most beautiful zoo because of their big indoor weather controlled areas. There is a desert area, Jungle, Biggest Mangrove (in the world), Biggest indoor (Ocean) Coral reef in Europe. And lots of other stuff to see!
Super nice video. Maybe you can go to Renkum. They have there very good ice cream.
if you both go on like this, you will soon know more about the Netherlands than myself, a native dutch guy :P
In a Arnhem - Government registered my Mother and Father in a social house rights to have a property but my parents still can't cross a borders to be in a Netherlands you don't see all direct problems guys but thank you for your review about Arnhem there also good forest, you can try to go there) and aslo a camp for refuege there check if you interesting to know deep situation
I think you might also enjoy archeon
Bedankt voor de aflevering. Ik denk dat er nog een groot assortiment aan koekjes is wat er geproefd kan worden. Hebben jullie al “Kletskoppen” geprobeerd? 😊 I really cannot watch your episodes hungry. 😂
nee nog niet! waar koop ik kletskoppen?
For the most original poffertjestent you have to go to De Brink in Laren...
Arnhem is the only city in the Netherlands with trolley buses. Burgers zoo is also really nice.
Not sure if you realize, but you guys have probably been taking day trips to more Dutch cities than most Dutch people have in their lifetime. 😂🤘
Hi!
Please make a video about the types of clothing (jackets, type of shoes, pants, rain pants, layers, fabric types) that are essential for life in the Netherlands. Please do all the seasons and recommend some brands. From someone who would like to come prepared / know where to buy the best gear there and not waste money on the wrong things. THANK YOU!
Fun fact: the Movie a Bridge to far was filmed in Deventer
Have to come back!
my cityyyyy! 🎉
