    Being in the small engine repair business for over 10 years we have generated a very large volume of customers fuel which went into my 2006 Ford F150 with the addition of the proper measurement of K100S+ added to this fuel. It was always important to only siphon off the top 75% of the jerry can to avoid water and dirt contamination. A few years ago the truck started to run extremely rough likely due to water from this old fuel so we added a full bottle of ISO HEET and within minutes the truck ran smooth again. At this point we purchased Mr. Funnel and over the last few years the customers fuel has never been an issue running in my Ford. I must agree fully this is a must have product for reuse of old fuel, another great video with NO TRICKERY!

    great video. you forgot to mention the most important point. Mr. Funnel works on a water fuel mix. But it does NOT work well at all with emulsified fuel. So filtering fresh bought fuel or stored fuel from a fuel container with a Mr. Funnel is DIVINE and works great. If you have a tank contamination and you pump the fuel and let it sit there will be water at the bottom, emulsified/contaminated in the centre and clean diesel at the top. Mr. Funnel is UNABLE to clear the emulsified diesel mix but only takes out parts of it.

In the spring - through early fall I use Lucas fuel cleaner & put a bottle in the can of gasoline. I use Shell or Kirkland (Costco) fuels only. Plus a Sthil trimmer I use Sthil fuel in it moto mix . That funnel would be a good investment. Especially for My power equipment

      Yes! My thoughts exactly, have the smallest one and have used it (or tried to) for years, and to be honest it would struggle with a fuel intake akin to a morning urine discharge, slow, painfully so, and I’m only filling 5 litre containers with filtered kerosene. 🤦‍♂️ Tempted to buy the larger one but feel a bit ripped off with the claims.

    these days our fuel is 10% ethanol alcohol, which is hydroscopic (attracts water from the atmosphere). The ethanol mixes readily with water, and the ethanol is indistinguishable from the water in the fuel. Does the Mr Funnel filter out the ethanol which is water laden from the gasoline?

  • @rhamil54
    @rhamil54 Год назад +2

    I bought the smaller model Mr Funnel, the F1NC for my kerosene heater - it has no sediment bowl like this one. As soon as I got it, I filled it with water just below the top. And ALL the water went through. I repeated this several times. So I called FloTool support to see if it was defective. The support person told me to only fill the funnel halfway up the screen portion; that filling over that level would let water through. And that the pressure balance to stop the water going through the screen was delicate.
    But halfway up the screen is only about about 11/16" on my model. That makes adding fuel to the funnel a real pain to stay under half way, especially with my battery powered pump. About 30 minutes for 1.9 Gallons.
    So what's the real story on Mr Funnel?

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  Год назад +3

      That's an interesting take that I've certainly never heard. I filled this one with a full bottle of water and nothing went through. It definitely works.

    • @rhamil54
      @rhamil54 Год назад +4

      @@EliminatorPerformance I've seen several videos that show a Mr Funnel holding a full fill of water. I'm thinking perhaps FloTool was just avoiding having to replace a defective product, but that's just a guess. I need to re-test mine to see if it even holds water at halfway up the filter. I'm considering buying the larger F8 model (5 gpm vs 2.7gpm) with a taller central filter, and try that one. Wick style kerosene heaters are real sensitive to getting water in the wick - it's very tough to get it out. Requires complete disassembly to remove the wick, and re-installing a wick to the correct uniform height is a real tedious job.

      Since the only thing really keeping water out is the fact that the filter media is hydrophobic and has small enough holes to keep the cohesion/adhesion property so it doesn't go through, I bet 50:1 would be fine going through. The oil and fuel in 50:1 should not separate and filter out.

    I just bought one for the express purpose of helping to remove ethanol from gasoline. Short answer: I don't believe it worked for this purpose, I returned it.
    I remove ethanol from gasoline by mixing 3 parts gas to 1 part water. I mix vigorously and let sit for a day until the gas is crystal clear. At this point, the water below is cloudy and there seems to be "bubbles of liquid" sitting right on the edge between the water and the gasoline. I'm not sure if these bubble are the ethanol, or if the ethanol is mixed in the water, thus making it cloudy. I AM pretty sure the yellow gas is the "gas", and that's all I want.
    I take a small tube and siphon off the gas until it gets close to the separation line. Normally, I'm done at this point, as I don't mind a little waste to get rid of my ethanol. It was here that I started experimenting w/ the funnel.
    Yes, I bought the real brand funnel, not a copy. I first tested w/ water, and sure enough none came through the filter. I emptied the funnel, and waited until my leftover bottle w/ a little gas on top of the bubbles on top of the cloudy water had settled. I did this as the instructions seemed to state "do not shake up the gas before funneling". I can only assume that "shook" gas might pass through the filter along with water.
    I slowly poured the remainder into the funnel. Some water was filtered and stayed in the funnel. what passed through the filter and into the bottle however, was a thin layer of yellow gas, on top of a cloudy clear liquid. I'm not a chemist, but those results right there showed me not to trust this filter for filtering gasoline from a water/ethanol mixture.
    The whole pour gently thing kinda bugs me in general with this product as well. Take away the idea of removing ethanol from the gas via mixing the gas with water. Imagine just using the funnel for its intended purpose. I would think the act of tipping a gas can and quickly pouring it into the funnel, as fast as the funnel will allow, would inherently mix up the gas with water, thus allowing some water that had ethanol bound with it, go through the funnel anyway.
    To be fair, I returned the funnel after my first result of seeing whitish cloudy liquid sitting below a layer of yellow gasoline after being put through the filter. I didn't do any other extensive testing. It still puts a little doubt in my mind. Sorry for the novel, but I just wanted to give the type of answer that I came here looking for myself.

    • @ryanpaul5604
      @ryanpaul5604 Год назад

      Since the only thing really keeping water out is the fact that the filter media is hydrophobic and has small enough holes to keep the cohesion/adhesion property so it doesn't go through, I doubt it would filter ethanol efficiently. Try a funnel with felt? I heard that works for separation of water/gas. Your test seemed pretty good so I'd be curious to see if a felt funnel works.

  • @Max-kw4px
    @Max-kw4px Год назад +1

    But what happens if your fuel is E10 (10% ethanol) to start with. I understand the ethanol is miscible with H2O and will readily mix and keep it in solution. Will Mr Funnel filter out this solubalized H2O+ethanol mix or will it let it through? From some quick research, I understand that the way the Mr Funnel filter works is via surface tension -> H2O has high surface tension and will not pass through the filter. H2O+ethanol has a much lower surface tension (ethanol has minimal surface tension) so I'm assuming it will let it all through... In other words, these filters will NOT get water out of contaminated E10 fuel!

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  Год назад +1

      Ethanol fuel by itself will pass through, the filter does not stop that. So it can't be used to remove ethanol from the fuel by itself. You can add water to your ethanol fuel, the alcohol (ethanol) will bind to the water and then it can be filtered through, and the filter will only allow the fuel. You will now have lower octane ethanol free fuel. You will then have to add an octane booster to this new fuel.

      The instructions on the box say the filter has pores smaller than the water molecules which is why water doesn't pass through. I read nothing about surface tension, but I'm curious to know if it will remove extra absorbed water from E10 in vehicles layed up over winter.

      Not unless the ethanol has gone through phase separation and detached from the fuel. This filter is only hydrophobic, meaning it repels water, not alcohol. However, the alcohol can unbind from the fuel and bind to water, so if you had old fuel that had been sitting and there was a bunch of water in it, chances are there would be less ethanol. Hope that helps.
