    This John Deere D105 was a good buy and seemed to only need a few minor things. The only issue I have with it is that it still kicks back when trying to start but will always start and run fine after starting. I adjusted the valves and it seems a tiny bit better. Usually with a compression release failure it will not start at all so this issue is a little puzzling to me.

    Nice work on that john deere d105 casey. I was thinking of the compression release at 1st but still acted like it at that time

    Just picked up a D105 with 267hrs on it for $600. It's a 2015 model, but the B&S engine still runs well - the issue I had was it not going up hills. Ended up needing a traction belt and it was back to running like new. I also replaced the deck belt after it blew apart half way thru the first time I used it. Overall, not a bad machine.

    Those B&S’s were pretty much junk from the get go. The fact it lasted 200 hours is nothing short of a miracle. I honestly am surprised JD allowed such a thing on their lawn tractors. But at the time, being an entry level lawn tractor, they were trying to hit a price point. But still the goal is to give your name a good reputation not a bad one no matter the price point. The newer ones after 2018 they seem to have improved that a lot. And went with a much better quality engine. But still as someone who worked at a JD dealer selling JD tractors, the secret is to stay away from B&S. Go ahead and invest in the upgraded model with a Kawasaki, and enjoy 10,000 hours of trouble free engine life, instead of a measly 200 hours.

      @@kajlerdog628 but there's a huge difference between what's your self opinionated thought and whats facts..and im talking about the Kohler 7000 series engine and why are they the least engines to come in for any type of repairs? Because they are that good they also come with a 3 year unlimited hours warranty and the Kohler 22 horsepower V twin engine is built on the same as the Kohler command commercial engine..

    I'm not trying to talk bad about new mowers but dang. I feel like they just don't make the mowers the same as they did back then just 70-220 hours on mowers and they already need work and replacements 😢

    Could it be a poor connection to the starter, or low battery contributing to the slow, hard starting?

    • @EllisMowersandmore
      @EllisMowersandmore  6 месяцев назад +1

      No I'm almost positive it was compression related, I'm wondering if there is a compression release issue despite it starting every time, kind of strange because even a good starter and battery usually won't start one with a bad compression release.

    Don't know if this would make much difference, however, I think the valve settings are supposed to be 4 to 6 thousandths on intake and 6 to 8 on exhaust??
