Another cause of sewer gas smells coming from a shower drain is because the homeowner doesn't use that shower in the house. So, the water in the trap for that shower evaporates and allows sewer gasses to creep up into the bathroom.
Any idea on how to work on this? I can't stand the smell anymore, quests don't seem to detect anything but some faintly do, It reeks incredibly strong for me (funky, old wet gym towel type of smell). Sickening really
@@thatfroginpeppapig2543 If the problem is that you don't use that bathroom, every couple of weeks, run a little bit of water down the drains in that bathroom to replenish the water that otherwise evaporates in the drain traps , allowing sewer gasses to come up into the bathroom. That should eliminate your problem.
I tried all of these steps in RUclips and the smell keep coming back, yes it is frustrated. I tried the snake, cleaning the drainage with paint roll, purred in all the chemical that Home depot has but the smell keep coming back, Evan I checked all the vented line on the roof. But finally I found the problem, The grout around the drainage was crack and smell was coming out from it. I had to remove and clean all grout around the drainage and Mix (Mortar Mix Rapid set) and pure it in were the grout was, wait 24 hours before you shower. the Mix dries real fast. Smell went away. Happy wife happy live.
That might not always be the case, sometimes if the house was not built with a vent for where the drain for your shower when water drains it can cause a suction to pull water out of the p trap causing sewage gas to come up your drain, but you would hear a gurgling sound if that were the case
dude thank you, I live in old apartments and im pretty sure this is whats happening to me. My bathroom has smelled horrible lately and after tons of cleaning I could not figure out the source. As soon as I just shut the plug and aired it out, the smell was gone. Now I know the source, thanks!
@@dianaalc11 The plugs on my sink and shower, (the drains), the metal part that covers it, that you can push / pull down. The smell was coming up from my my sink and bathtub for some reason... I feel like it's my downstairs neighbors somehow. After pouring boiling water and lemon, bleach, all kinds of things down there, nothing would take the smell away. It seems to come and go.. But now, as long as I keep them closed shut (down), my bathroom smells clean again! No more gross sewer smell. If your drain plugs aren't working or aren't tight, try plugging it up somehow and just fill the sink / tub up enough water to be covering the drain. The water will create a layer and prevent smell from coming up through. Living in apartments sucks. Lol.
Baking soda is a good cleaning agent because it's a base and vinegar is a good cleaning agent because it's an acid. By mixing them together, you are basically neutralizing your solution rendering it no more useful as a cleaning agent than water itself. I'd recommend adding the solutions separately to take advantage of the cleaning properties of each.
After taking off the drain strainer, how do you get that first piece of pipe out? Is there a special tool needed? I`ve never seen a video that shows any of the plumbers taking that piece out.
What if you don’t even use that shower? And that smell is coming up from the drain? Where else could it be coming from, if I live in a townhouse connected to other units?
So I’m pretty positive my bathtub does not have a p trap. We keep getting a sewer like smell in our bathroom, clearly coming from the drain. Well today I was in the basement looking up at the pipes and I… straight up don’t see a p trap. What do I do?
Sir, my bathroom smells only after my dad's bath. Why I don't know & we've noticed that every time it smells the same. Pls can you help me out for this. And also let me tell you he is also suffering from Mucus problem does it because of that & if "yes" pls help me out from this
My guesses are that it's either your father's own body odor or the towel he's using. Some people have unique body odors which can be irritating for others (which can be fixed by proper personal hygiene and maintenance)
Hi Good day We have a sewer smell in our 3 bathroom in apartments building what is your advise to diagnose the problems ,just to draw your attention that also our neighbours in the same building they have the same smell in their bathrooms , I would like to tell me where to start and check . Thank you in advance for your cooperation Jamal
yes over time. the shower gel and shampoo goes over it and no ventilation in the pipes. Bacteria and mould starts growing on it. There is still smell even if you removed the hair from the pipes. After removing hair, you need to scrub inside the pipes with a long special brush similar to the Vikan Tube Brush 5370 with hot water and dish soap. Later on with baking soda and vinegar or some kind of drain cleaner to finish off
Mark Symbala Try giving it a aggressive cleaning by cabling the drain and removing possible compaction . The reason for noise is that there might be not enough air space for water to drain down properly , this will cause constant noise . Let us know if this helps ?
Help! I am so frustrated. My shower starts stinking AFTER I take a shower sometimes during. It smells like pure sewage! I have tried bioclean, I've also tried baking soda and vinegar over 20 times. The smell keeps coming back. I've had two plumbers come over to no avail. They don't even help me. I think it's because they don't smell it when they're here. Only one of the plumbers was able to smell the smell and they checked the Trap and everything seems fine. I live in a condo and I am on the second floor. The only thing underneath me is the parking garage. I have called the hoa numerous times and no one will help. Please help me!
Any luck resolving? i have same issue and its driving me crazy. I smell it strong not even a minute in to a shower. I suspect there is a a backup between sewer main but would love to know what your solution is/was
Before you start to take shower pump drain in the sink untill you hear that air started go through the pipe. Repeat it. Put 2tbs of liquid Fairy into pipe. After few min. flash it with hot water. Do it in shower, sink & toilet bowl at the same time as they are connected.
It is probably the ptrap going dry. If it only happens after you run water, the venting is probably bad as the running water is pulling the ptrap dry with the vacuum created by the bad vent. Few plumbers see this or know how to fix. You can dump all the baking soda in the world down there but if your ptrap goes dry you will smell it from the main sewer line
@@JoelLevine yes please!! A very strong sewage-like odor appeared in my bathroom from a floor drain, it reeks so badly, I tried bleach and a highly active soap but it didn't work (made it worse) and now the smell is spreading into my room. Help 😭

with all due respect i dont think thats how it works. you can mix them and it cleans many things quite well as a scrub.

what are the measurements you used of vinegar and baking soda and the other chemicals components you used? Thx

Yes , that’s the P Trap . You need the proper cable machine to run through this .
