  • Queen Camilla is shown a tiny little book at Windsor Castle Library, that was written by Conan Doyle for the library of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House. Between 1921 and 1924, many of Britain and Ireland's most significant writers contributed handwritten books to the miniature library of Queen Mary's Dolls' House. The collection of tiny manuscripts was organised by Princess Marie Louise, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and the writer E.V. Lucas.

You can see a display of miniature books created in celebration of the centenary when you visit Windsor Castle. Her Majesty The Queen, who is well-known for her work on literacy, has championed the initiative to collect a modern-day miniature library. The new books include a miniature version of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The Harkle children have never seen the dolls house or any other of the fabulous items like pedal cars for children that are generations old. Learning from excellent teachers and family members to ride on the best horses, excellent seats at sports games and concerts of their choice, meeting interesting people like David Attenborough, family traditions, cousins to play with, excellent educations, grandparents, etc. They are missing it all.

I've seen this doll's house and the only thing I thought was when this house was being made by Sir Edwin Lutyens at a disclosed sum (not made public, but likely very expensive), there was mass unemplyment and poverty in the UK. Therefore, like many of the obscene spending habbits of the elite in British society, this doll's house is an example of a massive innaquality where poverty amongst the unemployed contrasted strikingly with the affluence of the middle and upper classes. This house is a symbol of an unethical institution (i.e. the Monarchy) that was inward looking and devoid of compassion and those in need.

I love the phrase ‘written in his own hand’, I mean, who else’s hand would it be!? 😂

It might have been dictated to a secretary or even printed.

It was E.V. Lucas, not E.B.
