I have been watching RUclips videos about ProTools for over 10 years now, everything ranging from promotional videos for new versions to in-depth tutorials about some of the in-built features and I confidently say that this is the best pronunciation of 'ProTools' I have ever heard.

I believe Hans Zimmers composes in Cubase, then mixes in Pro Tools now. What I find astounding is I get work done well in Cubase, and I used it a little over the years, but I was completely using Ableton live from 2012 for my music, which is composed, cinematic abstract music. When I started in Dec 2022 to mix only in Cubase lately for clients, it felt like I got work done, and I wasn't fighting the features. Loved Ableton for only mixing for years but I found I needed more control over my mixes, Cubase was the answer. When I open a session, things just flow. I also like Pro Tools and started using it lately. I'm sure in the future for only mixing it will be Pro Tools. After 23 years of audio engineering these two DAWs are the workflow I need.

Midi in Cubase ist the best. no doubt. So many great features, Mix Console, Control Room, Audio alignment, Logical Editor, Channel Strips, Channel Window, great sounding onstock effects and synths, very flexible render options, multiple marker tracks, wonderful timesaver Macros!!! (PT and Logic don´t have this!!!!) and so on... luv it.

Welcome to Cubase - you won’t regret it, it’s the complete package. Haven’t found anything that I can’t do, and certainly many things that are quick in Cubase take much longer in other DAWs.

It is more important to learn core audio engineering methods than a DAW. It is actually healthy to bounce between 2 or 3 DAWS just to keep fresh using audio engineering methods. Things like, gainstaging, using VU meters, A/b ing between pre/post processing, using automation, side-chaining, using bus's etc... are more important as a concept than the DAW you use.
You should be able to go into any software or use hardware and get the same results.
If you rely on a technology, when it dies you die with it, if you learn a concept/method you find many tools to pull off this knowledge.
If Cubase, Pro tools, Reaper, Logic all went out of business tomorrow, would you still be able to get the sound from a mix you desire, if not then you need knowledge more than reliance on a tool. You can give a great audio engineer Cubase from 1995 and he will make a better mix than most people with the latest software.
The Prodigy is a great example, Most of there 'Fat of the Land' album was sequenced in old Cubase, i rarely today hear anyone close to getting mixes that sound as good as there's.

One of the things that keeps me trying ProTools then immediately giving up is how complicated simple tasks are. Even considering the shortcut heavy nature of the program (which is hardcoded to one specific keyboard layout BTW), everything is always two or more shortcuts away, hidden in submenus, not in an obvious place. Everything seems to be tied to how professional studios with tape machines used to do things....in 1995. Even installing it is a convoluted process which involves the installation of at least two other pieces of software and uninstalling it is a nightmare as well.

In Cubase you can use Pro Tools key commands. I think you find that setting in accessories, I forget exactly where but there are several other DAW's key commands you can select and Pro Tools is one of them. Logic's are in there too.

With plug-in managers like Komplete Kontrol and AkAi VIP, a user can audition any preset Instantly, before loading it .
So, Cubase's media-bay, could make proxy audio files, for the presets of any selected libraries.
It would be like browsing the Loops and Samples section of Cubase, but the audition sample is pointing to, calling, a preset for that sound when needed.

I’ve used Cubase for 18 years, this year I’m starting to get sick of it, but that’s mainly due to bugs and my install setup, I think I’ll upgrade to latest version and do a clean install, The GUI glitches out all the time and loading it up I have to click ignore 70 odd times because it can’t find things. I need to calm down breath and reinstall 😂

I think it's worth underlining now that nuendo is way WAY better for film postproduction. Protools is just a popular standard but not as crazy powerfull and customizable as nuendo. I have a template of doom with >1000 tracks in nuendo for composition and also use it with all stems for films in 5.1. I bring all this in auditoriums where I mix for theater and it rocks. I used to offer productions to transfer my nuendo session to protools if they wanted an other mixer. But now from score printing to ADR, I simply sell them the idea that's it's going to be better to stay all in nuendo and just refuse jobs if I have to deliver in protools.

You will have different Sound of the same materials in Cubase and Pro Tools. That is because of different Audio Engine. I use also Steinberg for Midi and Samplitude as 3.th DAW for Audio Recording. Best Audio Engine ewer was in Vegas Audio one. Simple, direct, 100% identical sound in record and playback mode. Maybe you should try to run cubase as rewire to monitor and record the stems in pro tools. 👋

Cubase is a wonderful program...and it just gets better and better every version, it is too bad the so called "industry standard"...doesn't really hold up to its name very well, mainly in terms of a solid working daw. even worse now that pro tools is subscription based, it really makes me wonder if steinberg will pick up on this as well one day. I hope not!!
