      @@douglaspope-gz1eqI'm optimistic because the batting average for Gearbox when it comes to story has been really good. 1 and 3 have boring or offensive stories while the rest are serviceable or great. Even looking at the dlc's most are just good enough and in the case of BL3 are a stark improvement.
      I feel it's not well documented but BL3 was in Unreal Engine 3, using the same engine they've been using the first game, until I wanna say a year or so in they switched to Unreal Engine 4. You can feel the improvement that came from this switch in the gameplay but all the time wasted in the older engine meant something had to give to release 3 on time. That's why 3's story feels bloated because it's a draft of a story that they didn't get proof read enough before launch. This is why the dlcs I feel were immediately better because they were able to do all the quality insurance that's needed with writing. There's just too many knocks out of the park (Voyage dlc, Dragon Keep, Bounty of Blood, Amazing Grace side mission in 3, etc) that I fully sucking down the copium that 3's story was just a fluke. Also for all the shit given to 3's story as being the worst part about the game it's not *that* bad when you compare and contrast. Gearbox ain't no David Cage level bad.

    I liked the lack of NG+ on BL3 because I was already replaying the story in order to make additional characters. But now that's sort of a moot point since BL3 allows us to create new max-level characters after maxing out one character.

    With few exceptions (Heavyweight Harker), the number of dedicated items in an enemies drop pool has NO effect on the drop rate of each. It can just seem that way if the one you want is not dropping while the others are.

      @someoldguyinhawaii4960 yea, it wasn't my intention to make it seem like the chances were lower I'd there was more loot in the pool, but just how insanely discouraging it can be to want 1 of the 5 different items from the source

    the biggest thing im afraid of for BL4 is Gearbox listening to youtubers like HellFire who want post-legendary rarities to sabotage the game, BL3 already had massive issues with weapons just being useless, having that be an intentional feature would be horrible
    i remember BL2 and how half of the seraph weapons were just reskinned uniques and legendaries and it was so pointless

      I don't think post legendaries was really the problem, rather that gearbox are just bad developers especially when it comes to balance.
      If instead of being considered beyond legendaries, alternative end game rarities could be a good system to add diversify & section off specific mechanics.
      Imagine if all seraph weapons had a unique mechanic they all shared on-top of their individual ones, off the top of my head, like seraphim rage, dealing X amount of damage or killing X amount of enemies triggers a generous buff to stats. so they could still have weaker on average individual effects than legendaries but have this overall effect regardless of weapon to make them valuable.
      But hay that's why overhaul modders are the better borderlands developer's, community creativity is just better.

    • @Me_Zame
      @Me_Zame 2 дня назад

      @@Willow4526 I thought about a way to redo Seraph rarity with a unique mechanic (cause that's the only way you can make rarities above Legendaries really interesting). Make them dedicated drops only on Invincibles (cause I also thought about redoing the loot system too) and on top what they already doo, they have the side effect/mechanic of the Boss they drop from. So let's say something pretty basic. You drop the Seraph pistol on the Invincible who can generate corrosive novas, that samedi pistol will produce that same nova on top of his bullet patern.

    i feel like the majority of points you made only really effect the 5% of hardcore players. i've played a lot of the series but none of these issues have ever been a problem for someone like me. also saying "this will destroy borderlands 4" after every issue is dramatic. from the perspective of a filthy casual like me, the biggest mistake they need to avoid is simply the millennial ass writing of BL3. i like the concept of the calypsos, but their dialogue and performance makes me wanna fucking kill myself. not to mention ava and lorelei, nothing makes me wanna stick screwdrivers in my ears more than listening to them speak

    • @BIack27
      @BIack27 День назад

      The language is a bit exaggerated. Most casual gamers probably can’t relate to any of the issues since most just play it for the novel experience, and chances are they’ll just move on to the next game after completing the story or two, but for the gamers that want time sinks, he’s on point with most of the problems. The balancing is what keeps the players playing for years and excited for content. It sucks that if everyone just bought the game regardless of the quality which doesn’t greatly incentivize the company to seek quality. And that’s why indie developers can succeed because they have to focus on quality because it’s not just going to be an instant success. Focusing both on the story and long term playability. Sadly, as long as people are buying games, the long term quality will just greatly suffer unless it’s a deeply believed in core value of the developers (or when corporations give the leniency to trust developers rather than focus on profits).
      Also, I don’t think adding more hp is the main problem. There’s some games that do it well where adding absurd hp to end game content helps force players to actually care about mechanics and skills like the mythics system in WoW. Yes it’s tedious, but people do it and like it because of the necessity to reach end game content in a popular game. So it can’t just be implemented in the gameplay of Borderlands because there’s not a great incentive to really get better by yourself. So one of the problems with bullet sponges in a single player (for long term gamers) is the appropriate balancing of the whole game. I don’t mind some bullet sponges (even with mobs) when it forces me to actually interact and pay attention to content if it mattered. Why would I play the game with a self handicap of playing with subpar gear if I can just get better gear where it just obliterates the whole content. The problem with the legendaries in BL3 is either you’re struggling and having a good time, or get the best gear (lucky or not) and you start breezing through the content even in Mayhem 10/11. Once you understand the game, the game is too easy. But adding hp feels pointless and tedious if you don’t have to do it.
      But I will say though, problems will always exist. Even if we get the changes we want, it’s probably going to affect the game with casual gamers which can affect the finical success of the game which can affect the next iteration of the franchise. It sucks, but it’s a balancing act of being able to run studios long term and developing a piece people actually believe in.

    Mayhem levels are such a pointless mechanic, between the constant slow release of them to the modifiers, than to MH11 all be it a good addition so ppl can just play the game normally, you can literally just max level a character turn it on find a decent gun for base game mob grinding or go to the storm complex to gear up enough to go through a DLC until you can get one of the only consistently usable weapons for all characters...

    Some might argue that Pearls and legendaries are the same, so this is what I think they should do. Legendaries that are too OP could just be pearls. make them even more rare than usual but remove bad rolls or keep a single roll possible. Weapons like the DP Harold could be pearl.

    Biggest mistake they could make? Letting Randy Pitchford take the wheel again. He was lucky to catch lightning in a bottle twice with BL1 and BL2, everything since then has been pretty solid, but not legendary like the first two games were.
    Much deserved shade aside, I think one of the biggest mistakes they could make is to not let the story take itself seriously; I think the biggest testament to how important it is for the story to take itself seriously is the contrast between Handsome Jack and the Calypso twins in how much of a threat they are treated as by the team. Jack was a threat at every step, plans against him backfire, small gains are lost again quickly, and the entire tone of "If this goes right, we might have a shot" that carries throughout makes his eventual demise an underdog story, where with the Calypso twins, it's just 'Ugh, get of a load of these assholes, amirite?' instead of the calypso twins being taken as any sort of threat; sure, everyone admits that they're dangerous, but there's no point where the team is merely hoping that they can take them down, there's no narrative stakes because everyone is so confident they can win, and even when that burns them, instead of having that be a hinge point where their strategy shifts, they just keep 'running towards the fire' since the one time they *did* get burned, they still ultimately progressed in their plans against Troy and Tyreen.

    • @ConstantCanadian
      @ConstantCanadian  2 дня назад

      @Aderon I mean, having a better writing can certainly help the game out, And I do think that Borderlands 3's was subpar. Having a good story will only get them so far though, most of Borderlands is played at the endgame. Meaning that once you've gotten your 4 characters to max level the story has pretty much 0 bearing on the game anymore.
      My theory is that the reason for BL3's crappy story is that it wasn't really meant to be about the story. A Dev has gone on record saying that the reason for no great war in 3 was because they wanted to expand the world first before they did that. So my guess is they kind of just made A story that exists as a narrative to drive the world building. As if you dig deeper than the main story, there's a lot of more important lore/implications through the games challenges, and collectibles. It certainly seems like BL3's story put the comic relief above anything else, hopefully BL4 fixes that.
