  • Today we take a REAL tour of Detroit's West Side. I stress real because we go through a few different neighborhoods to give you a TRUE glimpse into the life of Detroiters on this side of the city not just highlighting the abandoned buildings and vacant lots. Detroit is a large city with a lot of history but many people stay away from it due to it's negative reputation as a hub for poverty, crime, drugs, and the worst that American urban living has to offer. Recently there has been alot of buzz around there being a resurgence in Detroit, a potential comeback.... so as per usual we had to go investigate. We drove through a mix of areas from Meyers to Fenkell, and from W. Chicago to eventually stopping at Joy Road. This is part 1 of our West Side Drive Through, there will definitely be a part 2 and potentially be part 3. We will also be back in Detroit during the summer so stay tuned as we will have more raw Detroit footage in future. DETROITERS, Please let me know what areas I've missed or where else to visit next time.
Thank you for watching! Most importantly, Enjoy!

I remember as a kid in the 60's that if u lived on the west side it meant ur family were doing better than most black families compared to the lower east side blacks. Nowadays, with economy changes (job losses, welfare/SSI, drugs and increase in crime) through the decades, it isn't so.
