lol, I use to think the same. But, if you watch their live performances from around the 2000s on (such as the Home orchestra DVD), you can see that he is actually playing. Especially since Ed doesn’t play as much guitar as he used to live, in the 90s. I think they would turn his guitar volume down in the mix, until he got better and Ed could largely drop the guitar duties.
