- This is a cover of the main theme to the 1982 movie Conan The Barbarian "Anvil of Crom" composed by Basil Poledouris. Arranged and performed on guitar and bass and additional programming and keyboards backing track.
Basil Poledouris soundtrack makes any movie at least about 30% better than it would have been otherwise.
300%
That explains the 130% awesome by volume of Conan the Barbarian

What is best in life: Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear this Basil Poledouris masterpiece daily!
I was hoping you were going to say the actual line - because I've never been able to understand what he says at the last part! 😂

Enough Metal to solve the Riddle of Steel. 🤘🤘🤘
The funny thing about that is, it truly does fit into the Riddle of Steel. What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? What is metal compared to the hands that play it? Now, contemplate this on the tree of woe.
We need Conan the King. With a Slipknot soundtrack
What's more powerful? Steel or the hand that weild's it? come to me. *the lady follower falls down two stories to her doom*-Thulsa Doom portrayed by James Earl Jones.
I just watched the film a few nights ago fir the first time in years. I had forgotten how powerful the score was. It's a perfect score.
The score today in movies is nothing compared to the 70s and 80s at all.
@@METALHEAD550 The old pieces had music you could hum as you work. I can hum Star Wars, Star Trek (Courage and Goldsmith) Conan, Robocop, and many more.
I can't remember a theme from any movie or show made after about 2010. The only recent composition I can remember and hum is the Game of Thrones theme.
Well, John Milius said that he saw the film as more of a visual opera than a conventional story.
So, it fits with the scope of the score.
@@Wien1938 That's actually a great way to look at it. The music really does forward the narrative. Especially when his village is attacked. Same could be said when they infiltrate the orgy.
I got to see it in theaters last year. It was amazing on the big screen!
Rest in peace, mr James Earl Jones.. you were truly magnificent!
"Know, O Prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars - Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Zamora with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered on the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold. But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west. Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet."
-- The Nemedian Chronicles
Absolutely fantastic!
Best anvil of crom cover
I had an idea of a modern version of the original Conan movie, where they ride motorcycles instead of horses, still using swords and where I live there's 2 bridges that you could see them coming like how Subotai sees Thulsa Doom and his ceew coming in the distance.....this kinda cover would fit perfectly.
Conan and metal naturally go together.
Amazing. I love the original score, but hearing it like this is stunningly cool.
an Axe Worthy of Crom's Attentions.
Awesome!
Please share the backing track of it, I must play it too!
My respect always.💯
Go and listen to the cover from Domine - The Aquilonia Suite
Crom says it's not in time
An interesting attempt, but it could be made far better and powerful. After years and countless arrangements I have heard, I find that hardly any improvement on the original symphonic version can be proposed! That is it! A stand alone icon! Everything else is a pale surrogate, in every respect or form.
The symphonic version is the masterpiece.nothing will outstage it.but this eletric guitar version is a godlike version of it,an epic in its own class.dont compare them, but rather appriciate both.
Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad, Why we fought or why we died. No, all that matters is that this is metal AF
🏆
This is the greatest thing ever written on the internet.
By Crom, this girds my loins!
You shall have your revenge
... and if you don't like it, to hell with you!
This was beautifully and savagely done. Crom is pleased.
Basil Poledouris created some of the most iconic cinematic scores in history. It's difficult to imagine this film without the emotional impact his music brought to it.
It would be like Indiana Jones without John Williams
Conan without Poledouris is a mildly good B movie
Agreed. Robocop and Starship Troopers are great too.
We can say, that music is a major character in Conan the Barbarian, for it says more than words.

This is ridiculously awesome! Crom seldom listens, but he'll rock out to this.
By Crom this brought a smile to my face and was a treat for my ears. Thank you.
Conan would be proud how expertly that axe was wielded
Crom nods at you, nods from his mountain.
His highest praise you will get.
Crom in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the slightest of nods.
His silver mountain
So effing cool... I cannot believe that to this day, they still haven't made another Conan movie worthy of being called as good as the first one... Conan the Destroyer was an absolute joke, and Jason Mamoa's movie was soft and Conan doesn't talk that much! Even if it wasn't a "Conan" movie, I'd love to see something along the same lines made in a serious manner without comedy, or any other BS.
I don't understand why they made Conan the destroyer like that
They had a genius director and best OST , they could have made the second movie even better
@@amrabdalnasser4691 After the success of the first one, the greedy studio executives rushed to make the 2nd one. There just wasn't any concerns about staying true to the charac
@@amrabdalnasser4691 oops... There was no concerns about staying true to the characters and the story. People just wanted a sequel and the travisty that was created was the end result.
The studio wanted a light campy PG version to appeal to a broader audience. It failed spectacularly! Crom was displeased.
it's because they never made another Arnold! Momoa was a worthy beefcake attempt, but the Austrian maxhinewas type-cast
Only true fans of this amazing soundtrack to do this. COngrats
OK, so I have to watch Conan again (for the umpteenth time). Life is good!
I love it! This cover knows what is best in life!

James Earl Jones (Thulsa Doom) will find out The Riddle of Steel. We’ll be missed, an American Treasure. Thank you…RIP 😢🪦
Well done. Basil Poledouris is was and will always be my favorite composer, and The anvil of Crom is my favorite piece of music ever written. After 42 years I’ve not heard anything more heavy and primal. more Metal heads need to cover it
Basil Poledouris' soundtrack is so perfect for this movie. I'm listening to it until today regularily
Me too. After years and countless arrangements I have heard, I find that hardly any improvement on the original symphonic version can be proposed! That is it! An stand alone icon!
O.M.G. I seriously have tears at how great this is. The sound track to this movie is one of my favorite recordings of all time and this just cemented it even more firmly into my pantheon of great albums.
Why are you crying?
This performance was so good it would make a man cry. But Conan is Cimmerian. He will not cry. So, I cry for him.
I always loved that moment.
"But always, there remained, the discipline of steel." -- Mako 🙏🙇♂⛩🗡⚔
Still my favourite soundtrack of all time. Thank you for doing it justice. This is tremendous.

As a Conan, Poledouris and Metal aficionado I ,enjoy this video. The gods are pleased with you.
Crom has heard your prayer, and he is pleased. *It was THAT good.
Definitely does the song justice great cover 👍🏻👍🏻
Dude! That is a ba-dass version! Feels like it belongs in the movie!
Also, has anyone ever told you that you remind them of Sid Haig? Rock!
LOL thanks I actually met Sig Haig once. I didn't look like him at the time.
Wrong!!! Conan, what is best......To crush your enemy's, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women. Great job my friend! 🤘
From the greatest movie of all time comes the greatest symphonic metal instrumental cover of all time.
feel the Power of Crom
finally...something worth liking on...
"Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this...METAL!"
Crom . I have never played for you before . I have no strings for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good at metal or bad. Why we taught or why we got high. All that matters is that two played for many . That's what's important! The sound of Metal pleases you, Crom... so grant me better pick ups. make them High end! And if you do not listen, then the HELL with you!
That was great...and I do mean fucking great...Always loved the R.E.Howard stories and the Frazetta illustrations...not all that fond of some of the movies, though given the times they were made, the budget and the technology, they were pretty entertaining and only occasionally embarrassing. I dream that someday AI tech will allow somebody to produce the actual stories with Frazetta-esque level visuals...and cool music just like yours. Have a great new year and keep on rockin' that axe.
And for those who do not approve or listen,THEN THE HELL WITH YOU!!🤘🤘
I'm just saying, Arnold is the perfect age for a King Conan movie. Someone get him on the phone.
I need this on Spotify asap
Yes....the riddle of steel.....steel only serve the hand the weilds it....America will soon know this truth.....
Phenomenal work but, alas, the Grim God sits high upon his mountaintop and cares not. 🤘
absolutely amazing. gives me shivers listening
Hail from Brazil!
Very cool. Epic. Film clips were great. Do Charlie Brown theme next.
My friend that was an absolute brilliant take on guitar. Loved it and will continue to love it, legend guitar work I must say. Have loved the Conan movies and sound track. You nailed it.. I won't more..
Krom would approve
Sorry, but the drums need to be higher than the guitar is this song. But, it's a good job.
"Many wars and feuds did Conan fight. Honor and fear were heaped upon his name and, in time, he became Governor by his own hand... And this story shall also be told............................"
You’re not as good as Joe Satriani, or Jimi Hendrix.
what gods do you pray to?
I pray to the gods of Metal.
There you shall find the Riddle of Steel.
Awesome cover! Best version I've heard of Anvil of Crom
Awesome!
Do the whole soundtrack, please!
Very cool. Lacks the punchyness of the horns though
Absolutely love it. Great soundtrack and a great cover.
CROM LAUGHS AT YOUR FOUR WINDS!
Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic version. If they ever made another Conan movie, this would be the perfect tribute music for the opening.
Suffer no guilt ye who shred in the name of Crom 🤘
This is beautiful, i had never heard it like that.
Your battle hymn pleases Crom!
Songs of Steel pleases you, Crom! 😠⚔
I have heard other people do a metal cover of Anvil of Crom and it always falls short, to thin and empty, missing that epic thunderous quality of the original. This captured it perfectly, well done.
Basil was probably the greatest composer of our time.
Ennio Morricone laughs at you from his mountain...
"probably" is an understatement.
Crom laughs at your comment.
Sammy what do U hear? Infinity...good..
The Crom theme doesn't work at all on distortet guitar. You should instead have played the mixed-meter rhythm section with palm-muted powerchords.
My Children were conceived to this music, long long ago in a time forgotten......
Fuerza y Genialidad en tu tema. 💪 Digno del espíritu del mejor Cimerio que jamás haya existido. Enhorabuena Maestro. Saludos desde España.
I can hear the lamentations of their women in your playing!
The Riddle of Metal!!!!!
Right on man! I really dig it. You play the hell outta that my friend.. Rock on!
"What is best in life?"
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women!"
"Wrong! It's this epic music!"
"But last time you said..."
"IS THIS LAST TIME?!"
To much reverb for me
FUCKING WORK OF ART, I need bigger capital letters to say what I feel when I hear this. THANK YOU
Magnificent!
Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered! And the Earth shook! Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts! . . . This you can trust.
I appreciate and respect your effort. Yet it doesn't quite feel like the original. In the original the protagonist of the theme is the percussion. Trombones add volume to the percussion and the violins are secondary. I would imagine a metal version of this theme to be played with dominating drums and bass guitar.
funny i was thinking imagine a metal version for that soundtrack ....bah who caresto make one but lets search and...bam the next moment i m looking your video ,nice cover
Bought this soundtrack back in the day and was disappointed that this track didn't fill both sides of the LP!!!!!

Best Conan the Barbarian electric guitar cover Ever ! Maestro !
My neighbor got mad at me, so i showed up with a gun and he laughed, and told me to turn it up.
Lol he has no time for it. Beautiful rendition. Practically perfect
only words to describe this is...FUCK YEA
DAMN! That was fucking awesome.
0:14 the Vanir that grew up with him looking up to his slave. (bottom left)
Almost cool. On the right track. Better then most renditions on YT. However, sounds too thin. And there’s too much distortion on some parts when you power chord the major thirds sounding like noise and not music. And some of the timing needs work.
I read the other day that the producers wanted a more catchy rock soundtrack.dodged a bullet there
Awesome - the song, the performance here and the movie, thanks !
