Stripes, the zebra, lives in Sarah Klaassen's Ihlow riding and therapy center. Veterinarian Dr. Doernath took a closer look at the special zebra.
Stripes, the zebra, is the star in East Frisia and far beyond. It is the country's only therapy zebra. Owner Sarah Klaassen not only founded a riding and therapy center but has also been training horses for many years. She came to the zebra by chance in the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, the sale of zebras, which have lived in human care for generations, is not that unusual. For example, no special permission is required to keep them. She was actually there to buy horses, but then she fell in love with the very special zebra.
In Germany, Sarah Klaassen completed a certificate of expertise and met the requirements for keeping Stripes. No effort was too great for her - her connection to Stripes was too strong. The zebra now lives with other horses on the horse expert's farm. For her, the husbandry is the fulfillment of a childhood dream.
But a horse like this also wants to receive professional veterinary care. The expert Dr. K. Alexandra Dörnath knows very well about animals like this. So, the choice fell on her. The veterinarian Dr. Doernath also has a big heart for stripes and other exotic animals.
