Lol . I agree. I don't think they realize we cook this every year so are kind of experts at this point! Plus we also still make breakfast, lunch and appetizers. We try to tell them it's often a 2-3 day process but to them a 2-3 drive is also exhausting! Lol jk kinda!

Thanksgiving is certainly something all the world can understand. It is: reflection on the mercy we’ve been shown to make it this far into the year, a time to show and share love to the people we choose (!) to love, and great comfort food. It’s not “just American” as far as I’m concerned. Good on you folks!

We have the same thing. Spring ahead. Fall back. We do a fresh cranberry/orange zest side dish. Your stuffing is close to ours and of course everyone has their traditional recipe but I think your stuffing would be even better using cubed bread rather than breadcrumbs. We don’t use breadcrumbs for our stuffing. I think your pork would be pork loin here and I’m not sure what our equivalent for gammon is but sounds great.

Great job for your first Thanksgiving! We do as much as possible in the days before. If we're making pies, we do those at least a day or two in advance. Mashed potatoes in advance (this year we reheated from frozen that were from another dinner). The more you do it and figure out what you want to make, the better you get at organizing it all and making as much as possible before the actual day.

Not in our house. We go to the diner for Thanksgiving and bring home turkey as they overload the plate so we have plenty if leftover turkey. We did Bob Evan’s mash potatoes, stuffing, bake corn soufflé. Green bean casserole it only takes a couple hours to make if you split the dishes between two people.

  • @ashrak12

A good way to have a turkey not go dry is to put it in a brine overnight. Also, my mother and grandmother would put the stuffing inside the cavity of a full turkey. That's why it's called stuffing and not dressing. The FDA here in the US has a lot of people scared to do it because of salmonella but my family survived without getting it all these years. I like your stuffing. Only 2 of our states don't have daylight saving time. A good way to keep your apples from turning brown is to sprinkle some lemon juice on them or put them in water.

I used to live in the
UK, so I knew what a "Gammon joint" was. We call that "Ham" here in the States.
We will put butter under the skin of the turkey along with different seasonings and herbs on and inside the turkey.
    I Loved how you incorporated
    some your own UK
dishes, such as Pigs in the Blanket, Yorkshire Puddings and you're vegtables and cranberry sauce mix. Everybody's house maybe different concerning the selections/items they will cook to put on the dinner table. You cook what you like to eat.😊
    You did a Good job!
Yes, we fall back and spring forward too. We just do it at different times of year.🙂

I'm enjoying watching you good folks making Thanksgiving dinner for the first time from New Orleans!
You all are doing a wonderful job!
We have our own dishes here as most places feature their own specialties.
The sweet potatoes with marshmallow are often served with the main course and not as a desert but it is good for desert too. My mom used to like to make stuffing or dressing with oysters and she used to like making bread pudding with meringue on top baked in the oven. My aunt May used to like making gumbo. A baked ham along with the turkey is also great. And my aunt May also liked having a big beef roast too. And a big pot of red beans and rice too. We went nuts with the food. And someone would lead our Thanksgiving prayer before we ate.
You all are doing a great job. Happy Thanksgiving. ❤❤❤

If you love the smell of citrus/clove/cinnamon or other dried bits of herbs and/or spices...A little craft project to try...
Slice Oranges, Grapefruit, Tangerines, (Whatever you like).
Dry in oven at a very low temperature with your additions of spice and herbs on waxed paper.
Once dried, thread string or yarn through them, hang them in a sunny window...smells so good and looks like stainglass.
We also have a saying, "Fall Back, Spring Ahead"..to remember daylight savings time.

Your dinner sounds delicious, but very different than the traditional Thanksgiving dinner I grew up with in New Jersey, USA.
I never heard of gammon or pork belly. They both sound delicious.
My family usually had a whole roasted turkey, classic stuffing with sausage, bread cubes, eggs, celery, onion, chicken broth, pepper, thyme, pepper, parsley, butter and salt. There are a lot of different stuffings you could make, but this is the kind Mom made. We also had green beans casserole, corn, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, cranberry jellied sauce, butter biscuits, turkey gravy, and corn bread. For dessert we would have apple pie, pumpkin pie, and vanilla ice cream. To drink, we have hot mulled apple cider.
I really enjoy watching you cook. It is funny to see your measurements are different as we use cups, tablespoon, teaspoons, ounces, and pounds. Our oven also runs on different heat from 170 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
Looking forward to seeing you make more different delicious dishes.

    Our praline yam recipe:
1 (29 oz) can of yams, drained
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup coconut
    1/2 cup chopped pecans
    3 T. melted butter
Place yams in greased casserole dish. Combine brown sugar, coconut, pecans, and butter and sprinkle evenly over yams. Bake at 350°F (176°C) for 40 minutes.
We much prefer this to the sweet potato casserole with marshmallows.

@8:59 You were asking, in a previous video on pot roasts, about cutting the onions. In the US, when we make a pot roast, most of us will cut the onion in several thick slices,, just like those oranges, or else we will cut them into wedge-shaped quarters. Just three or four cuts and done. It will cook all the way through, and it will really save your eyes.

Your turkey was beautiful, and what a Thanksgiving spread! I usually use Gordon Ramsay’s turkey recipe, but this year I cooked w/ a turkey crown for the first time, since it was all that was available at my grocery store at the time. I was worried it was going to be dry, but I found a dry brine recipe that made it super tender and juicy.
It’s just a dry rub marinade instead of adding your brine seasoning to liquid, pretty much the same way you’d season your turkey right before you bake it. I brined it for about 4hrs, and I didn’t use stuffing or aromatics, since I didn’t have much on hand this year. The recipe I used called for wrapping the crown tightly in tin foil while baking it to steam the turkey. Then, I broiled the skin for a few minutes after the meat was done. I was so surprised how well it turned out. There’s lots of dry drink recipes online, but the one I used was from the blog The Typical Mom.

The only thing wrong with this video is I can't smell it from over here...or maybe I can't taste it from over here, either. 😇
The madelines: yes we have them. Yes, the reason you cool the butter is so you don't start cooking the eggs. (no thank you, I don't think I want scrambled eggs in my cookies) Yours turned out great.
Fun fact: in my area, pigs in blankets are tiny sausages covered in puff pastry. I like your version better.
Another fun fact: I've never met a turnip or a parsnip in person. I wouldn't even know how to tell if they were ripe enough to eat.
Yes, James, we have Brussels Sprouts, but in my family, we put them in bacon fat and roast them until they are completely dead and headed towards burnt.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for showing us this awesome video.

It's available in the grocery store in the US. Here is a great video to show you how to make the perfect American Stuffing: ruclips.net/video/jRRO30huRA8/видео.html I make mine the same way, but I add Mushrooms, Apples, and Pecans! 😋

Delicious. I would hoover all of that.
I love parsnips ... more salt and some butter.
Sweet potato casserole needs brown sugar, butter and maybe a touch of cinnamon. My mom sliced the potatoes lengthwise and layered them with the butter and sugar. Marshmallows on top, I scraped them onto my brothers plate and ate the sweet potatoes.
I thought you were going to make cranberry relish for a second there. My mom and I would grind cranberries, oranges and walnuts together. Add some sugar and let it set a day. I loved that stuff. I think my mom and I were the only ones. More for me.
Give some thanks and be happy every day. Too many old people get bitter. Not me. I'm a happy old bastard. LOL Just had some leftovers and a Baileys in tea.

Pigs in a blanket definitely isn't on an American menu for Thanksgiving. Maybe 4th of July but excited to see why she chose it?
Did I hear right? You put breadcrumbs on the mashed potatoes? I could be totally wrong...we use bread in stuffing and crumbs on Mac n cheese in the South mostly but you put it on potatoes? I need to watch more because I like to comment as I watch so again I could've misheard!
I don't think most Americans haven't heard of Gammon? Guessing from the comments it's a version of Ham? I'll have to Investigate more because it's hard to give tips on things we don't generally have here. So this and the Yorkshire pudding is 100 percent in your hands!
Belly pork ..putting in your hands as well. Yes we have seen this but not for Thanksgiving. I am excited that your making this a new tradition in your family! If you loved it perfect! Keep that tradition! But so far not American.
We put a stick of butter under the skin on both sides of the breast to keep it from drying out. You can make your stuffing on the side, never heard stuffing going under the skin? But as far as the recipe, it may be a fun thing for us to try on Christmas!
I wish James would've just said our first British Thanksgiving! This is such a sweet video! Definitely not American but a thousand times sweet! I would've loved to cook by her on the day before and would've loved to see you eat the day of along with us! The QnA would've been fun on the day after like you did but she was answering questions about our constitution! We would've loved her to answer questions about her and her videos! We already know our constitution!
Can't wait for more videos. Sending happiness from America!

British meals look very good. Quite different than what we do in the US and I like to learn. Our Thanksgiving is such a precious holiday that has an important meaning for us and for Canada. There is no reason to make a British version. Just share with us why you would make a special meal.

We do Turkey breast a different way. Here in the South we don’t make stuffing. We make dressing.

We didn’t have a big meal because of a family illness. Usually we would have smoked turkey, turkey dressing casserole, green bean casserole, broccoli casserole, candied sweet potato, mashed potato, assorted crudités (pickles, olives, celery, pepperoncini), yeast rolls. For dessert a chocolate trifle and either a pumpkin cheesecake or pumpkin pie.

Did you use strawberry marshmallows? I only ask because I saw another Brit use strawberry instead of plain! The color on my phone may be off but I hope you didn't follow them in flavored marshmallows!

You're trying too hard imho .. Thanksgiving is mostly about the sides. Someone makes the bird, but everyone else brings a side.

Thanksgiving isn't about the food. Thanksgiving is about 🫂family,❤ community, 🫶🏼 love, and sharing. 🤲🏼
Food facilitates by bringing loved ones together in the various stages of planning, 🍽️ preparation, and consuming.
It is beautiful to see how delightfully well this family embraced all the steps of celebrating 🎉 their very first thanksgiving together. 👍🏼👍🏼
There is always a certain amount of 😢 angst in the waiting through hours of cooking smells.
One of the benefits to having nobody left out of the cooking, is the way each person gets some occasional finger🤫 lick, or small bite 😋of fruit, or other little taste not big enough to fill up but good to take off the edge.
    Children have the most difficulty.
My grandma had a little thing she'd do to make it fun. She would pretend to be sneaking some little tasty morsel to "stray" kids (there were never less than six grandkids, and one year, four cousins were born within 5 months), and moms would pretend to not notice.
Just one more way of working together to enjoy the day.
Don't forget as foods are passed, and plates are being filled, to discuss the things each person feels thankful for in their lives.
Someone needs to free range wild turkeys in the UK, if for no other reason than to share the exposure. They're completely different than farm turkeys, and are cool to encounter without even expectation of eating one.
I think it is the best way to introduce our quirky bird to people who are gaining interest in the customs, and flavors 🌽🍗🍽️🥧🍞🧈🧂🥐🧅🍎🍒🍅🥦🥔🍷🥃🍹🧃🥤🍨🏈of the holiday.
Hearing the babble from somewhere amidst 🍂🍁🌳🍄🕷️🦗🪲🦃🌳🍁🐌🦗🦃🪵🌻🌳🍁🐛🦋🦃🌲🍃🍂🍁 trees and fallen leaves, getting an occasional glimpse of the iconic colorings, it lends an added excitement about the turkey. It would be a cool experience to have, even if nobody wants to eat them. Turkeys in the wild is something everyone should experience, especially Americans, even if just five minutes, only once in life. By the way, they really like grasshoppers, crickets, spiders, and similar eats. 😮 😊
Lor' ! I do go on!
Happy holiday season, EVERYONE 🎉❤🎉 !!!
