HI, thanks so much for your comment. It's great to know that our video is helping you to replace the door lock on your washing machine...well done for fixing your appliance yourself!
Thank you SO much for this tutorial! The latch on my Hotpoint Tunble Dryer has broken so it wont close thus work, i'm ordering the spare gatctch for my dryet model but needed to know exactlry how to fix it, this video has helped allot! :-)
Hi Artistic Twist, here is a link to door parts for Hotpoint washing machines www.espares.co.uk/search/ma808pt1556/washing-machines/door-parts/hotpoint you just need your model details.
Hiya, thanks for the video. I was just wondering which component needs changing for me. The door locks only if I apply firm pressure to the bottom right of the door. This door closing technique was working for the last year but now the door error code and beeping noises displays on my hotpoint WMF740.
Hi. Thanks for the video. My machine keeps locking and unlocking the door. The interlock seems to switch between the 2 states ( I took it out), and machine can't start. Does it seems to be a faulty interlock or the machine digital board? Thank you in advance Shlomo
***** It is not possible to be certain without replacement so we would try a new lock. If the problem is not cured you cannot replace the board yourself as it has to be programmed with software before it will work. :-(
hey dude thanks for these videos but I got a hotpoint all the lights come on but nothing happens when I try and start and it won't turn off either unless I unplug it.. any ideas bruv or is it knackered. . cheers
Reply to neenu george: The door will usually be released after a couple of minutes once the power is disconnected (even if the water level is above the door).
+TT_WidowMaker On any cycle that heats the water a lot of power has to pass through the door lock. IF the lock is worn or if the connections are slightly loose there can be a little resistance. The current of the heater will then produce heat at the resistance point which can cause the connection to loosen more and produce more heat. This is not common but most engineers will have come across the odd machine that has had this problem. The important part of a repair after this is to ensure the connectors are in good condition and tight.
Hi, very helpful video. Ive just purchased the spares from you to change the door interlock on my Hotpoint Aquarius WMAQF 621. Ive got the door spring off and can access the interlock unit inside but my machine doesnt have any screws to release the interlock from the machine just what looks like to white dots on the outside face of the machine front cover. Is there as clip in side i need to press instead of taking out screws? 1st time DIY-er here so any help would be appreciated!
Hi Karen, we can help as we have another video that shows how to replace the lock which should be the same design as yours ruclips.net/video/qHgf4N7J5Gw/видео.html&t
Hi Karen. We would recommend getting a spare part. Please enter your make and model number into our website below and start your search today: www.espares.co.uk
Hi, thanks for your comment, hopefully our video has helped you to replace the door lock yourself, and your washing machine door is now locking correctly!
hello espares what a great video and easy to follow ! I have a iwdc6145 and it wont lock the Door .. it closes But the lock flashes . does it need to have a New interlock? or is this something els thanks so much erik
+AweSomo84 hi, thanks for your feedback glad you enjoyed our video. it sounds likely you'll need to replace the door lock. here is a link to a door lock suitable to for your model: www.espares.co.uk/product/es548529/

Hi Firstly take a look at our video "How to open a washing machine door that's stuck closed" . You can then have a look about and see what made the big bang. Good luck.
So my interlock is like pushed back where the door closes then locks. Would I have to change the interlock?? Or could I fix it? Pls help me!! My dad is not gonna wanna but a new interlock!!!
Thanks Jean, It looks like you are not the only one who likes our videos, On Wednesday night eSpares won An eCommerce award at the Marriott Hotel London where our video channel was praised specifically. :-)))
I bought Hoover Washing Machine Door Interlock for HPB145-80 from eSpares & followed the video, but after fitting, the washer door won’t close. It doesn’t click into place, whereas it did before. I’ve gone wrong somewhere, any ideas please?
Hi Mickey B, have you checked the position of the door lock? make sure the door does not need adjusting as the catch needs to go straight into the lock otherwise it does not connect.
Hi I have a Hoover WMH 168 D the door shuts on it fine , but doesn't lock at all. The time even counts down when you start a progam but no water fills the machine, do you think this is a door problem. many thanks for the video
Some machines identify do a self test before starting. If the brushes are worn it may prevent the door from locking, so it is worth checking before replacing the lock.
Then hopefully Paul it will just be the lock itself. It is still possible the machine has detected an open circuit heater or drain pump so if you have a meter check these for continuity before ordering.
Hi, i have a hotpoint aquarius WD440G, after a recent wash i was unable to open the door at all, so after some investigation i found a tutorial on how to open it with a piece of string. As i closed the door again it once again refuses to open. Does this mean the interlock is faulty ? or just the hook behind the handle ? .. or would i be better just replacing the lot ?
You reference how to open the door from the inside, but no link to that video. I've seen the tricks to open the door, but none work. Is there a way to replace the lock if you can't open the door?
If you open the lid you can get access from the top space is limited though if you plan on replacing anyway id just break the lock from the inside and it should release the door just be careful not to damage the tub or door you can pry the lock with a flat head screwdriver its just plastic and should break easy enough.
my lock is ok but is very temperamental ..sometimes when i hear the click ,it hasnt actually locked and doesnt even come on ..other times it does ..does the mechanism or wire connecor need cleaning or something as its done this from new ?
We would be surprised if the connector was the problem. The door seal can make closing stiff and sometimes need a firm push closed before starting when new. If this is not the problem contact the supplier who should replace the lock if under warranty.
Hi Gary, the clamp band is definitely fitted on your model of machine but because of its nature can pull so tight you may not easily see it. Carefully run the tip of a small screwdriver all around the groove in the seal and you will feel the tension spring at some point. When you have identified this it is easier to remove by carefully slipping the screwdriver under the spring and lifting it out off the seal.
On my hotpoint, the interlock is connected to the door release button with a metal spring. When I pulled the interlock out to replace it, the spring mechanism became detached. I can’t see how I would reattach it now without taking the front part of the machine off. Is this possible ?
The front does not come off your machine. Try removing the lock and fitting the spring before refitting the lock and attaching the spring to the lever above.
I tried to repair my lock, the mechanism wasn't locking because the little metal piece inside didn't seem to heat up enough to bend and lock the mechanism in place, so I tried to connect it directly, making the machine work but without safe locking the door. It did work for a few minutes but then it stopped working and now the coil doesn't even heat up. Can I repair this myself?
Jonnjon We would always advise never to disable a safety part like a door lock as they are there for a reason and there have been instances of children loosing an arm by opening when spinning. Just replace the lock and the machine should work unless you have damaged something else.
Hi there, I have a Hotpoint WMA54S and not sure how to remove the retaining band to change door interlock as there is no clip at the top to remove. It's a mystery to me! Can anyone help please?
Kelly Myhill Carefully examine the groove all around the door seal as there should be a spring hidden somewhere on its circumference. If there is a square fixing at the top of the front panel with a spring wire on either side then carefully prise the 'cover of this and it will release the wire fixing to enable the seals removal.
have a question about a bosch washing machine (waa21462gb/11). I had to replace the handle and after putting the door back on it says it doesn't shut properly (won't lock it or start washing cycle). Could you please advise? The lock was working perfect last night.
gaseki It sounds like you have either not fitted the spring or the lock peg incorrectly. Check the locking pin is sprung onto the hooked side of the peg and using the handle pulls it away from the wedge shaped hook portion. If not reassemble it again.
gaseki It seems coincidental but try pushing the door when the machine should be starting in case the latch hook has not quite operated the switch on the lock. If still nothing obvious suspect the lock but check motor brushes are not worn as this can sometimes give a similar problem.
+kimmy Ng Most Hotpoint modules have to be 'programmed' with special equipment making it expensive to replace the module and get the machine working. That is why we do not have a video to cover this.
I have recently had a bloke out to look at my hotpoint washing machine as the door was stuck when he looked at the lock receiver he said it has burnt out., causing all the rest to burn out. However everything would light up and my door would constantly click. Can anyone help?
Hi Sonia, the door lock has to connect a lot of power through to the heater and if any connectors are slightly loose resistance will cause heat and burning. The first 'job' to do would be to replace the damaged lock and the connectors with new, usually you can just trim off the damaged area of wire and replace with new 'spade' connectors supplied from a car spares supplier. As previously advised if the connectors are not fitted well onto clean wire the problem will return.
some times I switch on the eashing machine start t and by mistake wannna add more clothes I cant open after switching it off... also I am scared if my cats stuck and I realise after its locked ...how to fix the problem ...
Hi there my Hoover washing machine wmh 168d showed code error e 01 I ordered the part from you I fitted in but the code error keeps coming up can you please tell me how can I clear error code or how to resetting the washing machine please
Hi عبدالله, try putting into a diagnostic routine and when it comes out it should be reset, we have this one to try. Push and hold the FIRST Option Button with LED top right Turn the Program's Selector Knob 2 steps in clockwise sense After about 5 seconds, release the FIRST Option Button with LED to the left If the previous procedure was correctly carried out, all LEDs are turned ON simultaneously
i thought it was the door interlock got a new one some fault..no light on saying doors closed so washer wont start ..any tips on want it can be ..cheers
You haven't given a model number but a common problem on older machines is worn motor brushes. Once they no longer connect it can give this symptom. See the following video to check and replace: ruclips.net/video/MNInJd7js5A/видео.html
Machine doors do not shrink significant enough to be either noticeable or cause problems. If you have a problem with the door check the hinges catch and door lock.
If the door handle 'catches correctly' when opening and closing but the door does not lock it is likely the door lock itself is faulty and may need replacing.
eSpares thanks for coming back so quick spring on door is a little stiff us this normal door closes OK but then clicks 6 times and door flashes in red on panel
It is usual for the door to be a little stiff but if latching and the problem occurs even if you apply a little pressure to push it closed the problem is still likely to be the lock.
I suspected my door switch was on the blink, it got so I would have to slam the door but then stopped all together, next move was use an insulated screw driver and poke the switch a few times and its going again. going to spray some WD40 in there after this load finishes, damn thing is 13 months old and just out of warranty.
If the switch is playing up we would recommend you replace it as soon as possible. Badly making contacts can generate heat causing further damage or even a fire so try and avoid using until repaired.
Hi, I turned the washer off at the plug yesterday at lunch time and when my wife returned home at 4.30pm she opened the washer and a full drum of water came out all over the floor, I must of turned it off before it was finished but I was on the understanding that the door should stay locked if the drum has not spun off and is still full of water, is this right ?
Terry Myers The door will remain locked only if the appliance is powered up and the cycle has not finished. If unplugged or a power cut the thermal door lock will cool and allow the door to open regardless of water level.
Thank you very much for replying, So you are saying this is normal and not a fault with the lock? Are all washer locks the same then because this is the first time it's ever happened and the wife was not happy at all and I told her it was faulty LOL
Terry Myers Most washing machines use thermal door locks as a safety feature to ensure that the door remains locked for a minute or so after the cycle completes. A few machines like Zanussi and some newer LG machines have a solenoid door lock. These may remain locked if you were to disconnect in the middle of the cycle. Really simple to check which type, Thermal will give a quiet click 5 seconds after starting the cycle, if you immediately switched after the click the door would remain locked for around one minute when another quiet click indicates the door is now open.
Hi Executioner, depending on the model it may be different to the one shown in the video but should having something to hold the door seal to the cabinet.
How can I check the interlocks in washing machine the model is bosch logixx 9 varioperfect e-nr WAS24422GR/07. The code of the original door lock is 00619468. Contacts are 3,2,1 which bridge cables.because I understand I have problem with the washing machine if anyone knows let's answer thanks
Hi Conny, Thanks for the suggested cleaning details. We would not recommend washing any electrical component as this could either start corrosion or wash particles onto critical areas that may cause a component to flash over even when dry.
Whilst door is off give it a good clean. Take photos at each stage as you dismantle it and wash in washing soda and hot water. Leave to dry for 24 hours and reassemble. PS then the rest of the machine will look dirty and will need a clean. Sorry.
Hi John, sorry it's the internet's fault. There is a lot more chance of our video popping up on peoples searches if we title them 'How to Fix'. So although we agree with you we are going to have to follow the most popular format. :-)
+eSpares ok fair enough. I do have a question my washer/dryer combo has no screws to take the door locking mechanism off would it be glued on ? Thanks for reply 👍🏼
Some machines like Hotpoint and Indesit used to use two screws but now have plastic pips that need to be gently pushed to allow the lock to slide to one side and unhook from the surround that goes through the front panel. You can just make out the pips on the part shown here: www.espares.co.uk/product/es1671816
I have a Hotpoint 9526 washing machine and the door interlock is not working. It has tubes coming from under the drum and from a switch on the side of the cabinet as well as a micro switch. the machine stopped in mid cycle with a big bang and as a result I was unable to open the door.do I need to replace the interlock. markwn@tiscali.co.uk
Hi Mohamed, most of our videos are described as 'how to fix' as it helps viewers find the video easier. You are unlikely to be able to repair a faulty door lock so replacement is the best 'fix'. :-)
You are an absolute legend, thank you! Almost bought a new machine for something so simple.

After about 5 seconds, release the FIRST Option Button with LED to the left If the previous procedure was correctly carried out, all LEDs are turned ON simultaneously
i thought it was the door interlock got a new one some fault..no light on saying doors closed so washer wont start ..any tips on want it can be ..cheers
You haven't given a model number but a common problem on older machines is worn motor brushes. Once they no longer connect it can give this symptom. See the following video to check and replace:

Thanks for the comments, remember to 'like’ the video if you enjoyed it or it helped.👍
The door of my machine has shrunk due to the cold. What am I supposed to do.
Machine doors do not shrink significant enough to be either noticeable or cause problems. If you have a problem with the door check the hinges catch and door lock.
Hi guys have a Hotpoint wmf720 when I close door it clicks 6times and door lock flashes how do I know if it's door or interlock ?
If the door handle 'catches correctly' when opening and closing but the door does not lock it is likely the door lock itself is faulty and may need replacing.
eSpares thanks for coming back so quick spring on door is a little stiff us this normal door closes OK but then clicks 6 times and door flashes in red on panel
It is usual for the door to be a little stiff but if latching and the problem occurs even if you apply a little pressure to push it closed the problem is still likely to be the lock.
Thanks I will try replace interlock
😊
Thanks nice video
I think my door doesn't have a band and clip there is just a arrow pointing up
Hi Executioner, depending on the model it may be different to the one shown in the video but should having something to hold the door seal to the cabinet.
+κωστας κωστακης The lock is available here: www.espares.co.uk/product/es1529933
We do not have information on the connections.
Do you have a tdl54
Interlock goes back left lug through hole first not other way round! Don't force it.Very important.
Sorry.
Love your videos guys but this is not how to fix video its a how to replace video.
You can just make out the pips on the part shown here:

+eSpares Are right i understand ye that's brilliant thank you
:-)
I have a Hotpoint 9526 washing machine and the door interlock is not working. It has tubes coming from under the drum and from a switch on the side of the cabinet as well as a micro switch. the machine stopped in mid cycle with a big bang and as a result I was unable to open the door.do I need to replace the interlock. markwn@tiscali.co.uk
An old toothbrush is perfect for getting at stubborn dirt build-up.
That replace not fix problems
Hi Mohamed, most of our videos are described as 'how to fix' as it helps viewers find the video easier. You are unlikely to be able to repair a faulty door lock so replacement is the best 'fix'. :-)
Thanks a lot... This was awesome 👍
Hi Raj, thank you for your post and glad you enjoyed the video.
