Hey Everyone,
We noticed a few comments about phone bills and hot spot. Our phones and mobile internet is actually paid for on a business account that we don't pay for. It's a huge blessing and this is why it wasn't included in the video!! Sorry for the confusion there!!
🌷
Perhaps you could add to this pinned comment what your internet/phone costs would be if you were actually paying them, then maybe people would stop asking you 😉. BTW, I found this - site.fmca.com/fmca-verizon-4g-mifi . $50/month for unlimited, unthrottled wifi from Verizon including the Jetpack as long as you are an FMCA member (which is cheap). Doesn’t include any phone, though.
Hi Guys. Actually 650.00 for eating out isn’t that bad it’s 21.00 for both of you or 10.50 each a day for 30 days.
@@toadlguy Interesting!! that looks like a good deal!
That sounds like a sweet deal, how do I get in on that?
Quick Reference-
Van: $598
Renters Ins: $11
Car Ins: $80
Health Ins: $100
Gym: $68
Gas: $856
Dining: $650
Grocery: $256
Misc: $255
----------------------------
Total: $2787
i pay less for 3 bedroom house in uk. only reason would be travel to live in van
More than I make.
I wish those were my expenses
wolverine1981pl I think it’ll be cheaper in UK tbh we have to factor in council tax, gas electric bills, rising mortgage/rent, then our motoring costs on top
650 on dining is ridiculous especially when they spend 250 on groceries.
I really love the fact you guys put these HONEST numbers out there for people looking into this life.
It’s still not as much as a house, plus you’ve got so many memories and you’re two of the nicest couples I’ve met on you tube you are always smiling and you include us in your day to day activities it’s always a huge pleasure watching your video’s you are such fun together always keep smiling, and your infectious way you are together god bless and take care of you both xx
"We're not here to make each other look bad." I'll have to remember that one. Keep on keeping the peace, Trent! I really liked the genuine numbers you've provided too. It's a great reminder of all the hidden fees you'll find while travelling.
This gives others some insight and hope that they could do this. Y’all do a great job.
Thanks Scott!!
Thank you so much for putting this out there and being so vulnerable. I'm starting to budget for my dream of converting a van for weekend trips to national parks around the country. While my SO and I don't plan on living in it full-time, it's extremely helpful to hear some of these comments on how to handle insurance, what gas could look like for continuous travel, refilling propane, etc. This is a huge help and makes me feel more and more like this endeavor could actually pan out and save us money in the long run (compared to hotels/cabins), giving us the ability to satisfy our need for adventure more often. You both are wonderful! Hope the road is treating you well!
Trent & Allie I really appreciate the vulnerability of sharing your expenses. It's actually how I found your videos. It's a great look into the intimate lifestyle of vanlife. I'd love to see more. Keep doing your guys' thing.
Thank you so much for being open and available- I needed this.
Thank you for being so authentic...... Don't stress the money - you've got this. Enjoy the food!
Thanks Anne!! We appreciate that ;)
If you can’t enjoy the food on the road what fun would that be?
I love watching your videos! Thank you for doing a real life budget and putting it out there for us all to see. It helps so much to see what the real cost is compared to appartment living. Dont fret about putting yourself out there and feeling vulnerable, this was hugely informative!
This is 4 years later and I still enjoy(?), try appreciate, the breakdown and reality check.
Thank you for going out on a limb for us, and yes, I have recommended to others to watch this when they are thinking about van life.
I just love the mountain picture behind you!
Been binge watching all(most) of your vids, you guys are awesome hope i get to experience vanlife here in the Philippines
Appreciate your candor! Thanks for sharing something most folks guard so tightly. It’s really helpful for planning purposes.
So glad to help :)
Just wanted to say thanks for being so transparent with your finances. Sometimes looking in from the outside you tend to get a view that isn't necessarily representative, your willingness to make this video is a tremendous help!
On another note, I know October wasn't the kindest to you and your families, just wanted to pass along my well wishes and hoping things are a little gentler in the coming months.
Best to you both!
Thank you so much for this. You guys always have quality content. Love from Santa Barbara, Ca :)
Thanks Chloe!! That's so sweet to hear :) we appreciate you watching ;)
You don't have to apologize about spending money on things you like especially when it supports local people
Love your conversion. Great work. These memories you are making are priceless.
A hugely informative video, delivered in an eclectic and entertaining style. Thanks for being so open. Good luck !
Thank you for opening up your personal spending, it's very helpful.
Thanks for being appreciative :) and thank for watching
Fun vlog. 😅 Love the outtakes. Wow! That's pretty cheap for a one month vacation. Imagine what it would have cost for hotels, meals, and modes of transportation to cover all that ground for a month without the van. 👍
Yeah you're right!! We would not be able to afford to stay in hotels for a month LOL
@@TrentandAllie We've been living in hotels for 3 years because our house was practically destroyed by a water leak when we were away for several weeks! And we can't afford it, either! :-(
Thank You for Being Transparent Sharing Your Personal Finances for the Month and what circumstances in October. It gives viewers something tangible to compare and how to gauge their own monthly finances. Great Job !!!!
HUGS Allie, FEEL BETTER SOON !!!! Thanks for the financial info. It gives us a starting point when we are thinking about vanlife. We are extremely grateful for all of ur life sharing videos.
Thanks Kathy!! We love sharing them with you so it's awesome that you appreciate them so greatly
You guys rock,
You now have educated me with renter's insurance and possibly $15k extra on the vehicle coverage, thank you for that information. Unfortunately, we don't have GEICO in Canada. My Canadian fuel cost is 18 cents per kilometer for budgeting reason (Ford transit Ext Long). As for propane, the drums are still rolling, I have super insulated the van the best I could, so I'll see how much it will cost. Thank you for sharing, Ray
That's good that we're helping people understand things though!! There are some tricks to all this! Good luck with your transit in the Canadian winter!! Hope it's not too expensive!!
That's actually pretty frugal. Asheville is a great food city, good luck on reigning in those dining expenses.
Dining is an addiction!! haha
thank you guys for posting this!! I was waiting for you guys to do a video like this. I think more people should talk money when living this kind of life style because it is so easy to blow money living on the road. Don't worry about what opinions and comments you get from people regarding your budget. It's called PERSONAL finances for a reason. I also think it's important to talk everything money with your significant other that way you are always on the same page and don't fight over something silly as money (which is one of the top reasons people divorce). Keep doing what you're doing guys. You are awesome and an inspiration!
Thank you so much for sharing all your personal info. We are in the process of planning our future in an RV or van and your channel will be very helpful.
My favorite couple, you always have fun even when laying out your finances.
We are always trying to keep it interesting and fun!! Glad you enjoy it, thanks for watching :)
I have one more house payment :) then I plan to save (as if I was still making house payments) to pay cash (i.e. no interest) for a new van plus cost to convert it myself. I will make up my mind of which van to buy once I save my money. I love to travel and find inspiration in your videos, and others. I wish you all the best. You two look like you were made for each other. Keep up the great videos :)
Tim, I wish you the best, but I hear this all the time.... Had you thought about Renting out the house and living in the van? I have the "income" problem for my vise, you have a house payment...
Just thought that you could buy the van, build it out ASAP and GO FOR IT! Best wishes
Thanks Tim that's so sweet of you :) Good luck with the plan! It sounds like a good one!
Thanks you two, I'm planning to build my first own campervan. And all your ideas have inspired me enormously. I'll keep you posted.
Hey Trent & Allie!!! You know it's the 'I'm sick again' season. Like you say - the expenses will vary depending on the WHO and the HOW but thank you for your input. People will gain some insight after viewing and listening to you guys. STAY SAFE and warm, be SAFE out there in your travels and Thank you for sharing. 😎
Thanks John!! we hope us sharing this info will help people too!!!
5:00 Trent now I’m in trouble.
Get him Allie! 😂
😂😂😂
Get well soon! Having a never ending cold is the worst! Ever tried a netti pot?
Yes the Netti pot is amazing! We need to use one! Great idea
Make sure to only use distilled clean water though, even though the chances are low you can get very ill by using water that is accidently contaminated (which tap water can be). I love my nettipot but please ONLY use distilled water, don't put your health at risk, it's not worth it.
You guys are awesome. I appreciate videos like this one --thank you for your openness and honesty. When considering the higher quality of life and new experiences for two people, there is so much more value to your expenditures. My monthly expenses are close in cost, but in comparison sadly lacking in quality of life. Trent, the video you made comparing vans explaining the differences was one of the best videos I have seen on van life ; it was comprehensive and very helpful. Feel better Allie.
Thanks Nancy! I really appreciate that and I'm glad the video helped you. We all agree on the fact that we are getting a lot of bank for our buck when it comes to our expenses!! We are so happy about this!
You guys are so awesome for being so open and helping us understand van life ❤
Wtf insurance y’all got that’s only 100$ a month?
Yeah, WTF! Myself alone costs 100 USD and I still need to add my travel insurance
My travel insurance cost 120€ for 6 months. (Finland)
Our health insurance for 3 very healthy people is $875 per month!! And that’s with a $10,000 family deductible!!!
@@jonihofmann3318 yeah right? i don't know how to find $100 per mo for a couple...someone is helping?
songbird singing ! I think that insurance is just for emergencies only.
You should keep some dates around. Helps cut way back on over priced sweets.
That's a great idea!!! Never had a date
Dates with p but butter and chia seeds .... yummmmmm
Oh Allie, so sorry you’re sick again! That was the stress from last week catching up with you. Hope Trent stays well. That was a good video. Tell Trent to slow down on those donuts...haha. Poor guy. Loves his sweets. I showed my hubby the van comparison video you did. He really liked it. Good info.
You guys have such useful, practical videos. Incredibly helpful. THANK YOU!
This was so interesting. Thanks. I'd love another video next month to see how you guys did on curbing your expenses.
an updated november video huh? we might do that!!
I would love that as well!
... fun vlog... rewarding... good to see the breakdown... // 12 months avg?
... wondering if you do have or considered - a repair/replace account for the van? (as in a separate, monthly funded account just for that which can be a big-ticket item(s)) ?
We don't have that as of now but that's a very smart idea! To set money aside for big repairs!
This is so helpful! I’m moving into my van this year and I’m so psyched!
You guys rock and I so enjoy watching your adventures and that you are also keeping it real!
you forgot the phone plans, those are monthly payments as well, you could also do an average over 12 months.
Our phones and internet are paid for on a business account that we don't pay. Sorry we should have said that in the video
@@TrentandAllie no worries, great video none the less, still a monthly expense though, i only pay 35euro per month for unlimited data, calls, texts here in the netherlands with T-Mobile, 10gb per month outside of the netherlands(europe)
I like the different view and don’t think you look cramped. 👍🏼
Great news!! Thats awesome!
Outstanding info, thanks for those numbers.. Enjoy your adventure.
Thanks for your willingness to be so transparent. I have been curious about the real expense side of Van Life. You already put yourselves out there for us so much. Van Life is not for me but I enjoy the heck out of you three.
Awww that's so awesome to hear! So glad you enjoy our videos that much and we love having you as a viewer :)
You could buy a house an pay less a month an land doesn’t depreciate, get a small car an a tent an travel to see the country , did that rv thing in my twenties, it was fun but no way to live
First of all, Allie, please let us know how your Mom is doing. That was a terrible scare for you and her to experience and for us to learn about second hand. Hoping and praying that she is healing well. Second, how come Master Frank hasn't been in recent vids? Is this part of the frugal bit where he stays with your parents in order to reduce his outstanding food bill? Part of the November Savings, eh? Inquiring minds and noisy people want to know. Otherwise, Allie, in sickness and in health, it so great to have you back. Nice to see you also, Trent. Cheers y'all!
Hey Sherrill! Thank you so much for your concerns, Allie's mom is doing really well... improving by the day! Frank was actually playing with cody, Allies childhood dog, while we filmed this video. We are spending a lot of time with Allies family while her mom recovers and so has frank haha.
You have fantastic rates for car and health insurance. Greatly appreciate the info, it’s invaluable. Thanks for sharing!!!
I love yall! You have the best van life videos I have ever seen hands down, for really
You'd think that manufacturers would improve the fuel efficiency of cargo vans to be better like average 25-30mpg
this was a very helpful video! just curious, is RUclips your main source of income?
The rain has moved out of Asheville area. The forecast looks beautiful! Hope you enjoy the mountains! If you get a chance check out Brevard too. We love it. Safe travels.
Feel better soon Allie. Love you two. 🌞
Thanks Claudine!! We love you too!!
Thanks for being so open. No shaming coming from me. You're living this type of life to enjoy it. My only question is how do you all bring in income. Is this You Tube channel your primary source of income?
No it's not, we both work. I'm in internet marketing and Allie is in healthcare quality improvement :)
@@TrentandAllie What is the name of your Internet marketing?
@@TrentandAllie I'm assuming youre both able to work remotely?
Can I be a bit forward and ask you the total cost of the van itself (before the conversion)? I'm thinking of getting the 159" wheelbase not extended and I'm just curious what you actually paid vs. the MSRP (which I remember you said was $43,000). If you don't feel comfortable sharing this information I totally understand, no pressure. Cheers and feel better! I really appreciate and enjoy your channel, you guys are my favorite van lifers to watch. Thanks!
Edit: Allie I hope your mom is doing better, your story was absolutely shocking and I'm so sorry you guys experienced that. As awful as the situation was it's great to hear how you were able to support your mom during what must have been a very terrifying situation, how you found the strength to take on the role of the decision maker and get your mom the help she so desperately needed. I know it sounds goofy since we don't know eachother but I'm proud of you for stepping up like you did. Maybe if your mom consents you could let us know how she's doing now that she's home, but I totally understand if she wants to maintain her privacy, just an idea. I hope you get over your cold and feel better soon!
My mom is doing great! Thanks for asking! and the van was $37,000 after tax and licensing and everything. MSRP was $42,000
Thanks for being so honest.great video, hope you feel better Allie
Thanks Joyce!! She's recovering
Love these two! Never boring
Thanks Debra! So glad you enjoyed it :)
I travel a lot in a more conventional way. Last summer I went to england Ireland and Scotland with my sister. We would go to restaurants and having the same taste we would usually agree and split a meal and then go back to the hostel and cook a big meal for the night. Splitting never left us over full and we would save a lot of money! And you still get to experience the culture!
That is a pro tip!! Thanks we'll have to try that
If you do make it to Asheville NC, you have to visit Vortex Donuts, because Donuts are my friends. good video, a little cramped but that's the price you pay for a van conversion, lol.
I'm fixin to hit Vortex donuts now!! Thanks for the tip
-Trent
Alton Brown has a list I ve seen of the best donuts in the USA. Our town's humble donuts made the list. Memphis, according to AB, have the best.
Yall are fun to watch. Your interactions and banter was amazing.
If y'all head to Colorado,Longmont area, let me know. I own a restaurant and will give you a free meal.
Thank you so much for breaking this down and also adding your phone/hotspot details!
Who does not enjoy different foods just a suggestion buy one plate and split it...that way you are trying the food and cutting cost in half lol
That's a nice pro tip!! haha
This is what we do when we travel. Portions are so huge in most places. We usually get two meals and split it between myself, my husband and 12 year old son.
That’s what I do as well and order an extra salad!
However, they can split each other plate with different food.
Depends on where you are at the moment. In some cities dining out is expensive, where in others it's cheaper than cooking for yourself. If you're out in the middle of nowhere, you pretty much have to cook for yourself. We just got back from South America on our own and I couldn't believe how much time it took having to go find a place to eat 2 to 3 times a day.
You two are fun to watch and have some very good information. I have never RV'ed a day in my life ( I am 68 ), but I bought a van and started the conversion ( attempting to avoid a cosmetic disaster ) and then hire some people to finish it in pieces as I figure out what I would like. BUT!! When I factor in actual cost of internet...and boosters, the cost maintenance on the vehicle, staying in RV parks those times when it makes sense...even a motel from time to time when it makes sense, those times when I might decide to buy custom insulated shades for my van windows( I liked that video, but if you had to pay for that stuff it would be hundreds of dollars...and we all know the list of "necessities" can add up to high expense)...and lots of other things: I concluded that living in an RV...even discounting the start up cost ( on a depreciating asset ) is MUCH more expensive than probably most people initially calculate. The one thing that amazes me, to be candid...are the videos where people try to live the boon docking lifestyle with 2 golf cart batteries and unrealistic expectations of solar; or attempt to boon dock without an air conditioner in 100 degree temps ( which means the RV is even hotter), or they have old tires or inadequate tires for the weight of their vehicle(s)...and other shortcuts which ends up making life even more expensive, more uncomfortable, more inconvenient, and more dangerous. I think it can get pretty bad without good judgement and realistic expectations. Despite this, I live vicariously through your experiences...and hope to have my own great experiences ( which for me is NOT converting the van ). In a few months I expect to do a video of my own new, gratifying experiences....or the effects of progressive dementia in aging males with the delusion that it would be a nice idea to convert a van and go RV'ing for a year. I want to be flexible.
You're on the right track Scott!! Set the proper expectations and you'll never be upset or disappointed!! Good luck on your venture my friend
Thank you. I just found this video. Very informative. Hope you enjoy South America.
You both are great examples for young people.
Excellent Video. Thanks for sharing this personal information.
Thanx for being VULNERABLE … hopefully you have income much greater than your expenses. Now, for my question, HOW do you keep track of your expenses? Paper and pencil, a computer spreadsheet, a computer finance program, or jars of counting beans? TIA
We just use one account for everything we buy and then at the end of the month we download all the transactions and then we make a graph!!
LIVE ,,,, LIFE,,,,,, LOVE ........ THREE TO FOLLOW .....❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You guys should do some food blogging while you travel. It may turn into free food on the road. It could help offset food $$ Just saying. Thanks for sharing!
I'm more than willing to do that!! I just gotta figure out how to start!!
Great, informative video. Helpful and fun to watch. I am a recent subscriber, I've been watching your Don't Sop Belizin' series. I like your videos and you two are very likable--especially Allie and her smiling eyes.
You guys are such a cute couple :) thanks so much for this video im considering van life and this info definitely very helpful to my planning process also saw your 9 negatives about van life
Wow...you guys do eat well...here is a tip...set up a weekly budget, say $150.00. That is all you have, don't add to it, just try for one month and the trick is....KEEP ALL RECEIPTS...at end of month go thru the receipts and you will
be amazed at your spending habits. I raised 2 sons, 2cats, 1 dog, drove 56 miles RT for work for 5 years on $160.00 a month.Budget the money for the next adventure...start a couple of jars for change too...
That's an inspiring story!! and very motivating!! We need to start budgeting for sure!!
I can't imagine how you did that. It must have been quite a while ago. I am starting $200.00 a month for food and gas next month. I'm not excited at all. Janice
That would take some discipline to go through receipts at the end of the month. Easier to just get a money app on your phone to track it all.
Wow! Very impressive. I need to stop going to Costco! I think they pump the warehouse with O2. LoL
That's nothing. we traveled year and half on the road towing a 30' camper traveling the country and Canada and Baja Mexico we spent around $4,500 a month. Fuel killed us plus I have a diesel. We didn't think it out to good
Holy cow Mike!! That sounds rough man!! you must have had a good job!
Great video, given myself and lots of ppl real helpful information/advice here!. definitely making yourselves feel a bit vulnerable in the process, well done. A welcome change from the normal "Fluff" (pointless crap) this genre regularly offers. This channel is a recent favourite for me, you come across as a really nice pair, Good stuff 👍
I love your energy guys!!! & thank you so much for the video 🙏🏾
Do phone and internet count as business expenses instead of personal expenses?
They are on a business account that is paid for by Allie's employer
Soooo that DC meet up?
I'm surprised you only get 15 mpg in a new Promaster. I thought they had finally passed the 20 mpg mark.
And holy crap @ that dining expense lol

We are going to try to sneak one in at the beginning of December when we're back

Hey guys, thanks for sharing! Budgeting seems to be a major factor that can make or break the joy one can experience with nomad living.
fantastic show of transperancy! it does answer most of my questions. i was wowed by the gas cost!
If your personal belongings are tied to renters insurance at a fixed address, how could u possibly collect on theft or damage in your van? I would think a rider on your automotive insurance would be the way to go.
Renters insurance covers items in the vehicle. When I had it, I got a discount on my auto insurance for getting it and it basically was close to free. I travelled a lot and kept a lot of items in my vehicle.
An auto policy will never, ever cover personal property.
52 haters that still live with mom and wish they had the van life
Thanks for being open and honest..: one person made a good point about cell phone/hotspot expense
Glad you appreciate it David!! The Cell phones and hot spot are paid for by Allie's employer!!
I love you guys, you seriously make me so happy!!
🤣Trent's donut addiction 🤣 way to be honest and admit it man👍
You cant tell he looks extremely healthy. But he works hard on his mommas farm. Actually they both do.

I am a 62 year old grandma and mother of four grown kids and 13 grandchildren. Love your relationship cute couble take care you guys....
You guys rule! thanks for sharing this personal and private stuff.
You two look like your on the tall side, so no, you don't look cramped for your height. Also for two people 2g's is not bad at all for a month. Allie you gotta watch out when you go out to all those public places to eat, that's usually where you gonna pick up those bugs that are out there. They say you don't sick from being cold or bad weather etc.. you get it from other people. I don't wanna sound like gramma but it's true a lot of hand washing helps. Anyway, stay cool peeps. ✌
Makes you not wanna go out in public!!! It's scary
@@TrentandAllie Bring a tiny bottle of hand wash. Germs on menu and door knobs. Try to not touch your face without washing hands as germs enter that way.
How do you.... van people? Make the money to spend? That's what I've always wondered
Most van dwellers do it through RUclips, Social Media, Programming/Web Design, Freelance work, etc.
Some get seasonal jobs, like stuff at ski resorts and national parks and the such.
@@noise7867 idk how any of that stuff works really. But seasonal jobs makes sense. It would be cool to travel but dont think I'll ever do it.
Some people also travel as healthcare professionals.
Yes my question exactly
With this amount of subscribs, views and likes the utube income could easily be 30k to 40k or more of annual income, plus amazon links, plus patron $. They are doing really well.
You guys are precious! I love your channel and your content is awesome! Please be safe out there and stay well! Love to Frank! 😘
You guys are great. It's your money, so use it as you will. Thanks for opening up and sharing your costs. I guess expenditure will also depend on where you are - I have seen you in videos with Nomadic Movement in Mexico, and it would be interesting to me to get an idea of expenditure in different countries. Keep on rocking, Trent and Allie :)
Which category did you hide the parking violations in?
Damn it!! I still need to pay those! I keep forgetting! I'm gonna do it right now, thanks for the reminder John.
@@TrentandAllie May we laugh? Asking for a friend...
