    Sounds great! Did you use stock push rods?

    • @DadsToyBox
      @DadsToyBox  2 года назад +1

      Thank you! No I had to use a much heavier push rod. If you are interested I’ll try to find exactly what they were. I had a lighter aftermarket comp cams set in there and the springs started to bend a few of them as I was setting the lash. My machine shop sold me the heavier ones.

      @@DadsToyBox Did you go from a flat tappet to a roller? I was wondering if the length of the push rod changed.
      Also has the car been to the track since the upgrade? I have a 454 and I'm thinking about upgrading to a roller.

    • @DadsToyBox
      @DadsToyBox  2 года назад +1

      The car had another engine in it when I bought it, a 415 Motown block that was over 900 hp. I bought the 396 block and built it from scratch to be more of a streetable car that could still provide a lot of hp. So I’m not sure on your pushrod length. You could call Summit or Howards and give them your current setup and they could probably give you an answer. So far I love the roller cam and break in was stress free. I have not been to the track with it yet. Only test drove it once and it’s a beast.

    Hey I have a question about the blow back what did you use or make for valve cover

    • @DadsToyBox
      @DadsToyBox  8 месяцев назад

      I bought the valve covers from someone. They already had the holes cut in them. I added some correct sized AN fittings and ran the hoses to Moroso Breather Tanks. I included the link to the breathers below.

      @@DadsToyBox it might be. Only way to know it have it dynoed. I've built a lot of big blocks over the years and it took a lot to build a 454,460,489,496. 396 is just so small. Takes a lot of compression really good aluminum heads and a special solid roller to bring one to 500+ hp. Best I got out of one was a 11.5 :1 30 over a whole lot of money and still only ran a 11:36 in the 1/4 mile in a 68 nova. Lexan windows,roll cage and lot of fiberglass parts. I switched over to a 383 small block and run faster! Go figure! 10:50's

      @@DadsToyBox I had a friend that built a 454 with rectangle older heads a 570 lift hydraulic cam edelbrock, Edelbrock intake 800 double pump Holley run and sounded good in a 70 Chevelle. Yanked the front wheels up on the street. I had a 79 Z28 Camaro factory car and gears with an old Saginaw 4 speed in it and a 355 SB w a cheap Summit intake and 443 lift baby cam 10:1flattop summit pistons stock open chamber 882 heads with an old Quadrajet carb on it. We lined em up one night by the time I hit second gear I saw him fade away when I hit 3rd gear he was 10 cars behind! We never did understand it,even to this day! I still have that little engine but in a C 10 truck with Vortec cylinder heads on it and slightly hotter camshaft. It pulls like a monster.

      @@DadsToyBox Exactly! Lol but mine aren't stories, they are facts! I worked in a performance machine shop from late 88 to 1998. I've done an seen it all. Street race to track and in-between. If you look up some specs you will also so that small blocks put out big power to weight ratio. I've had my fun with big block engines and done it all. I found out the hard way a small rules! I've built some monster big blocks and some monster small blocks. Up to 500 ci small block. Insane results. If I were to tinker again it would def be small block. Like a 421 or 440ish maybe little more lol without the cussing😁😆

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
    from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
    Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
    reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated
    central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down
    all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From
    2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as
    exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox
    oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no
    investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even
    created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(
