This song (and band really) probably saved my life. I was in a low place, and I didn't really wanna go on, but my friend introduced me to this song, and I immediately fell in love with it, and listened to it and a lot of the other songs and albums and they gave me the will to keep going.
Remember him in the old days of the past open sessions, him just sitting chillin' while "playing" an orange thingy? That was so sad lol! Totally glad he got to do more this time :)
+Viva Rdvt Hahaha yeah. x) The one for Firelight is still one of my favorites because he got the chance to do harmonies for that one. Finally his talent is being recognized more!!
If you guys wanna listen to Francois singing, go listen to the band "American Pets". Francois and Eric play in that band and the song Bad Dream is Francois singing :)
[Verse 1] I, I saw a picture of you today At an art exhibit On memory lane You wore those pearls we found on Champs-Elysees Framed like the golden masters Forgotten all these years Pouring like rain A true thought appears Oh, the genius of pain Without a name Pouring like rain [Chorus] Cause I'm on my back, on my back again Words we had to describe the same feeling Now without a meaning Cause I'm on my back, on my back again Looking at a hole in the ceiling [Verse 2] I, I watched the movie of you today Silver screen adapted from my thoughts on Broadway You saved the world; we lived in such harmony Blockbuster sales in twelve countries Remembered all these years Falling like rain A truth that appears Oh, the genius of pain, oh [Chorus] Cause I'm on my back, on my back again Words we had to describe the same feeling Now without a meaning Cause I'm on my back, on my back again Looking at a hole in the ceiling
Agreed with Fritobandito, the chorus in the studio version will send chills straight down your spine and if you didn't already get your daily cry in, you sure will after listening to the second time the chorus plays. It. Is. So. Good.
Headphones make this so much more immersive. More personal and emotional. Sameer and Francois are such amazing vocalists and I love Young the Giant so much.
I think out of EVERY song ive ever heard, this is the most peaceful one to me. I was listening to this while i was having a mental breakdown. Helpped me out of it.
Hearing Youngs' music always makes me so nostalgic and makes me remember the first time i heard them. Listening them helped me get through my days and made me who i am today. Thank you Young the Giant. You are the greatest, rhythm, music, and lyric wise.
Actually have tears in my eyes. In the open always kills me but this song was meh to me on the first few listens and this had me hooked in ten seconds.
ENOUGH. I wanna share quite a deep thought here. When I first listened to Cough Syrup , about idk 5 years ago I thought "all right, classic average band with a good tune". After a couple of years I fell into them again, and this feeling kind of grew, but still nothing particular. Then I listened to some acoustic versions, and started realizing they were indeed really good. Finally the "In the open session" came to me and I just can't get enough of them. HOW UNDERRATED ARE THESE GUYS? SERIOUSLY. The vocalist is incredible, the lyrics and the music are amazing and they just get along so well. Don't even get me started on how fucking good they sound live. I just needed to point out how good they are, not just a medium-high class band. Have a good day
Magnificent. Perfection. Love YTG. Great song, lyrics, vocals, musicians video. Raw, complex simplicity. Chills. Beautiful. This shows how less can be more.
These are my favorite part of being a Young the Giant fan. Seeing a band that produces such amazing records being able to play them live in a completely different style. Masterful!
Gracias , por su música , me relaja , ahorita tanto stress y problemas se van con la música , bendiciones , hermoso grupo bendiciones a sus familias de tijuana.
One of their most harmonically interesting songs imo. Just love the atmosphere those chords create, fully brought to life by those ethereal vocal harmonies.
This song (and band really) probably saved my life. I was in a low place, and I didn't really wanna go on, but my friend introduced me to this song, and I immediately fell in love with it, and listened to it and a lot of the other songs and albums and they gave me the will to keep going.
Good luck bro...
this is 10 months late but I'm really glad you're still here :)
A year later ... but I hope you’re okay stay strong ❤️
Beautiful Carter. Music carries so much weight. So relatable. So raw....
2 years later ❤️
Are we ever going to get an In the Open album?
Hopefully one day
Lets pray that we will
i sure hope so!
We need one
I'd wake up every morning and play it out in the open for the world to hear!
God, this was perfect. I'm so glad that the drummer (Francois, right?) does more vocals in this album. His voice is amazing.
Finally his talent is being recognized more!!
buttercupisevil his voice is amazing! Couldn't agree more
If you guys wanna listen to Francois singing, go listen to the band "American Pets". Francois and Eric play in that band and the song Bad Dream is Francois singing :)
@@Vincent_Gagne Thank you! I am always looking for new bands, and they are fantastic.
Oh my GOD this is beautiful. This album is truly spectacular.
This is hands down one of my favourite in the open sessions
I love this song the build up is great
Agreed. Next is Firelight imo
I fell in love with this song since it dropped.
same
This song makes me believe in God. “I’m on my back again” touch me in a special way
2024 still sounds as beautiful as the first time I heard✨🤍
this is like an art exhibit for the ears
Francois and Sameer's voices, together, are pure delight. This is, by far, the best version of this song...
I feel like a proud mother because they are blowing up with this album 😭❤️😂
are they?
+Fritobandito858 well since I've discovered them they have gotten a lot of attention
+jasmine ekunwe Couldn't of done it without you Jasmine!
back at you!!!
Listened to em back when they were the jiggs theyve been known for awhile
okay okay but did anybody else have to pause the video for a breather when sameer came in with the vocals because I almost just died
ME TOO
I know what you mean Cleo lux, I love sameers voice so much it gives me goosebumps every time his vocals roll in...every time!! I'm not exaggerating 😊
OMG SAMEE
me
Legit slipping into a coma right now
holy shit he's a good live singer
More vocals from Francois! His and Sameer's voice blend so well.
[Verse 1]
I, I saw a picture of you today
At an art exhibit
On memory lane
You wore those pearls we found on Champs-Elysees
Framed like the golden masters
Forgotten all these years
Pouring like rain
A true thought appears
Oh, the genius of pain
Without a name
Pouring like rain
[Chorus]
Cause I'm on my back, on my back again
Words we had to describe the same feeling
Now without a meaning
Cause I'm on my back, on my back again
Looking at a hole in the ceiling
[Verse 2]
I, I watched the movie of you today
Silver screen adapted from my thoughts on Broadway
You saved the world; we lived in such harmony
Blockbuster sales in twelve countries
Remembered all these years
Falling like rain
A truth that appears
Oh, the genius of pain, oh
[Chorus]
Cause I'm on my back, on my back again
Words we had to describe the same feeling
Now without a meaning
Cause I'm on my back, on my back again
Looking at a hole in the ceiling
slight mistake in the repeat of the course. should be pouring not falling.
+Matthias Joseph thanks! ❤️
+Matthias Joseph No I think falling goes there?
In the "In the Open" version they say pouring both times but in the studio version they say "falling like rain" in the repeat of the chorus
Ok cool
i haven't heard the studio version yet, but I'm not sure i want to. this is perfection.
the chorus is amazing in the studio version
you have no worry about that, is amazing !!!
+Fritobandito858 agreed
Agreed with Fritobandito, the chorus in the studio version will send chills straight down your spine and if you didn't already get your daily cry in, you sure will after listening to the second time the chorus plays. It. Is. So. Good.
This is the best version I've found, way more chill, and Francois harmonized with Sameer on this one, which you don't really get from other versions.
This band is the shit, its my favorite indie band.
actually they aren't indie anymore
+Vincent Gagné how so
+cessationem Indie means "independant". Since they are signed by Fueld by Ramen (which is a huge label), they cannot be called an indie band anymore.
i think "alternative" band is a more accurate term
+Saab Rivas i think "indie" could be a genere as well.
These harmonies have renewed me.
This video makes me understand why my 20 yr old music major daughter is obsessed with YTG...Very talented groups of guys...
Headphones make this so much more immersive. More personal and emotional.
Sameer and Francois are such amazing vocalists and I love Young the Giant so much.
Sameer's voice is so beautiful and this was amazing
i cannot get over how perfect this is.
I WASN'T READY
STILL NOT READY
+Caroline W oh no she wasn't ready...
+Caroline W definitely a W
my god you're gorgeus
Sebastian Martinez Diaz hell yeah she is
When God blesses your ears with Young The Giant.
Never heard someone whistle so beautifully
this is the most beautiful thing. ever.
This. This song reminds me so much of my Nana. she practically raised me. This song is simply beautiful, just like her.
Lowkey cried a little. Such a beautiful song. Such a beautiful band. Young the Giant is perfect.
this is my fave song in the album... It is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard
Man. Tears every time.
Young the giant has by far the best In The Opens
I think out of EVERY song ive ever heard, this is the most peaceful one to me. I was listening to this while i was having a mental breakdown. Helpped me out of it.
Those harmonies on the chorus give me shivers, this whole piece is so beautiful
All , the music , so , beutiful , sounds a voice of angels .
They have many good songs but this one is one of their masterpieces.
they deserve so much more recognition T-T
He has the most beautiful voice I have ever had the pleasure to hear
Sameer's voice gives me the eerie chill of hearing Jeff Buckley's haunting melodies. Doesn't happen very often.
Imagine going for a walk and meeting them while singing ! 😍😍😍
Dang. They have so much talent. Forever my favorite band :))
Probably my favorite In The Open. Hauntingly beautiful.
This is real music. Simple as that
A band that makes everything they do a work of art.
i love seeing how young the giant has grown over the years 😭
I'm in tears.
I truly just went somewhere else listening to this. So serene....
Beautiful men, beautiful voices, beautiful songs of birds, beautiful scenery. I'm swooning
Hearing Youngs' music always makes me so nostalgic and makes me remember the first time i heard them. Listening them helped me get through my days and made me who i am today. Thank you Young the Giant. You are the greatest, rhythm, music, and lyric wise.
I just discovered this band recently, and I am changed forever.
I don't know another band more magical than this. I'm sorry. It's just the truth.
Actually have tears in my eyes. In the open always kills me but this song was meh to me on the first few listens and this had me hooked in ten seconds.
That's really nice that this music has made you happy, but this sounds pretty similar to the original..? 😅🙈
I agree, this version is even more beautiful and gripping than the album version
Listening in 2020.. all I have to say is thank you Jesus for this band.
in the open is such an amazing experience. thank God
One of my favorite songs of all-time. Period. YTG is one of my favorite acts around right now.
This song has like an almost nostalgic feel to it. Its so pure and innocent and stripped. Nothing contaminates it.
This song is so magical
This song just told me to eradicate everything in my life that's negative and be myself again. Thank you, Based Young the Giant.

Have a good day
Forgotten all these years, pouring like rain, a true thought appears, oh, the genius of pain.
You know a band is good when their live stuff does as well as this. I want to listen to this more than their studio stuff
This is perfect, i can't stop rewhatching
My boyfriend showed this to me yesterday and I almost cried. This voice is a voice from above.
Love hearing the birds in the background.
Oh ! Spechlessly beautiful ...
This song is a masterpiece
This is literally the best song ever
Magnificent. Perfection. Love YTG. Great song, lyrics, vocals, musicians video. Raw, complex simplicity. Chills. Beautiful. This shows how less can be more.

Just got back from the Indy show. I can genuinely say that I have never wanted to relive something as much as that concert. It's a can't miss.
Excuse me while I die, because my new favorite video on the internet is too much.
Same! this video, much like the song, is so pure and good ❤️❤️❤️
These are my favorite part of being a Young the Giant fan. Seeing a band that produces such amazing records being able to play them live in a completely different style. Masterful!
Gracias , por su música , me relaja , ahorita tanto stress y problemas se van con la música , bendiciones , hermoso grupo bendiciones a sus familias de tijuana.

WHERE DO THEY FIND THESE AMAZING LOCATIONS
In Venice CA of course. I was honored they chose my home and street.
I think they find through friends and the places they have toured/traveled to.
I'm moving to Venice 😂
Donny Burhan Yelp Premium
Jaz Ekunwe hope you find happiness there
One of their most harmonically interesting songs imo. Just love the atmosphere those chords create, fully brought to life by those ethereal vocal harmonies.
one of my favorite videos ever
one of the most unique bands in the history of the universe 💘
i love how natural these sessions are they make me feel very content
Their harmony is a wonderful thing
One group of musicians I don't mind giving my money too. So so blessed to know their music.
i love love love the way the guitars join in one by one and the harmony of the backup vocals and ahhhh
I've listened to this song so many times, but each time it hits me with emotions that I can't explain
Their best open session, period.
They did it. I'm crying. I'm happy. I want more.
Out of all the In the Open sessions they did, this is by far, my favourite!
I have been listening to this one song over and over again for more than 3 days! I think I'm addicted to Sameer now
We NEED In the Open sessions on Spotify 🥹🤍✨
Just saw this live in Oakland last saturday and I was in complete awe.. They sound just like the record!
This song is just simply perfect! Haven't listened to anything THIS soulful in a very long time.
Love from Bangladesh
