      Hamlin is too aggressive. You had Dale, Gordon and Johnson trying to win but never were too aggressive. They knew they were beat because if they pushed harder the lead car would have wrecked. They want exciting finishes not wrecking ones.

    • @nathancao520
      @nathancao520 4 года назад +148

      @@kateofone what would you want Hamlin to do. He is paid to race, to win races, to beat the best in that field. He slows down he will be beat by the other drivers, and his team owner will be sceptical on his ability. All he did was bump draft Blaney at the end, that is a textbook move that people should know how to do when racing at superspeedways. No one wants to be wrecked or see wrecked cars at the end, but racing is about drivers who try to push the boundaries of racing and do their hardest to beat each other. Dale Jr, Gordon, and Johnson are all some of the all time greats, and every driver is different to how they approach a race, but they are playing the long game, not focused on certain races, but for that championship. This is probably the biggest trophy Hamlin has a chance at winning all year so hell yea he will go for it.

That's racing, plain and simple. Put all those drivers, in that same scenario, and I bet they all do the exact same thing.

    Reminded me of how Michael Waltrip won Daytona when Earnhardt died. He was ecstatic cause he never could win it before , and he finally did. Had a piece of confetti stuck to his forehead in the winners Circle talkin to the press. DW was in the booth too, he actually saw the wreck in full, and he was seriously conflicted. We go from Dale Earnhardt dying from a simple collision into the wall, to Newman being able to flip in the air in 20 years. Is that comparable?

    • @S.K.R.E.Inc.
      @S.K.R.E.Inc. 3 года назад +4

      Yes and no. The wall back in 2001 was concrete, meaning you're basically dead if you hit it head-on at 200 mph, no amount of HANS or CoT would make a difference in that impact (it's an energy dissipation issue, something that the SAFER barrier would have in mind), and Newman got hit in the one area where there was little to no protection, meaning most outcomes would result in death because the roof wasn't reinforced, neither were the sides, so he got lucky or had divine intervention through Earnhardt. The one thing comparable is that their crashes were grievous and gnarly, as they got the worst hits in racing, one from sudden stop, another a literal T-bone head on at 200 mph

      Ashlee Slavey Because NASCAR has this kind of accidents very frequently in super speedway races, so drivers are used to them and don't realize the severity of one when it's bad. There hasn't been a death in NASCAR ever since 2001 when legend Dale Earnhardt, Sr. lost his life in the last lap of that year's Daytona 500 (a lot of safety regulations were implemented after it), and still many crashes worse than this one have had drivers walk away unharmed. When Denny got told that Newman was injured he actually got concerned and sent prayers to him. Ryan has been cleared to race when NASCAR returns to the tracks the 17th of this month. So don't worry

      How about it's on nobody? The Daytona 500 is one of the most prestigious events in sports, they always come down to drivers doing whatever they can to win. Nobody wants this to happen, but it's the chance every driver knowingly takes when they go out every week.

      They were both aggressive and they knew the risks. As long as Newman lives to race another day, I think it's a spectacular way to end a race.

      You could change the roles for all three drivers and they would have done the same thing.

    I like how the car up and flips airborne does 10 spins, lands on the roof and catches fire and the announcers all nonchalant.

      I know I'm 6 months late, but two main things here. One of The announcers jobs are too keep the viewers calm and collected. Stuff like this happens in NASCAR, and the safety tech in the cars are very good. Point number 2, if you watched live, after they came back from commercial, one of them were almost in tears. They were pretty rattled.

    One of the reasons he survived is because his driver seat was moved to middle of the car if I wouldn't of been there he would be dead☠️

    I remember a mini-documentary geared toward answering the question of whether racing is a "real" sport since the drivers are "just sitting" in cars the whole time. And they talked about the g-forces up and down different curves being akin to what fighter pilots catch plus other stuff about focus and reflexes and splitsecond decision-making. I think they forgot to mention the fact racing is the only sport where the players need 3,500 pounds of armor and masterwork of engineering to survive any given mishap... And count yourself lucky if something doesn't explode. Might've been a funny super bowl commercial with football players on one side lined up against nascar drivers in their cars on the other side too... :) (Glad Ryan has no life threatening injuries, hope he has no permanent damage.)

    I remember being at home, alone when this happened. My sister was i don't know where. My grandmother at a casino. My dad at work. I remember the second the wreck happened, i called my dad screaming into his voicemail. Shouting that the worst may have happened again at daytona. My sister texting me asking if newman was okay, and i saying i don't know. And finally calling my grandmother to tell her what happened. I breathed a sigh of relief when they said he was okay and began to cry after that.
