The iGPU on these puppies isn't strong enough to take advantage of the additional bandwidth.

I’m actually pretty disappointed, I think it’s best to wait until we can get better latencys on ddr5
yeah, pants init!
@@buggerlugz6753 Are you trying to get the word "pants" to trend or something?
Duh. First time huh?
Every new RAM generation is like that. First iteration of the new RAM technology barely has any improvements.
wait until it actually has a decent GPU paired to it. intel is well known for it being a basic display out and nothing better, let AMD put something serious out before you say its disappointing
Indeed
The one thing I can't wait for is RDNA 2 APUs on DDR5. Especially once DDR5 as a platform matures.
And it gets to a reasonable price :P
Yeah! The APU future is potentially bright.
You dont need to wait, we have steamdeck
Was just thinking about this considering the biggest bottleneck on the new 5600g and 5700g comes down to memory. Can't wait to see RDNA2 APUs with DDR5.
It's gonna be great for the no dgpu bros
Hoping for 1060 performance on that.
For sure! I also can't wait.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff cant wait to see your steam deck video
It won't make sense , ddr5 will be very expensive at pairing a apu with rDNA 2 with ddr5 will cost you more than getting a gpu and ddr4 cpu
CAS latency is also a major factor of gaming on igpu . i switched from CL19 2400 to cl15 and my life experiences are much better using the laptop.around + 10 fps top end and slightly better 1 and .01 % lows.
Yeah the cas latency in DDR5 is fairly pants isn't it! 38,38,38,84 on Dom plats! and thats the bestest of the best?
@@buggerlugz6753 lol u can still wait to see if they make it better, cuz it’s not even that long since ddr5 released, give them some times, it’s not like it’s a new ddr4.
@@buggerlugz6753 better kits are already announced/released, g.skill has up to 6400 Mhz CL 36 Modules. The 6000 Mhz ones were already available albeit in very small quantities. You can't really compare the latency between generations 1:1 because there are other factors that determine the overall performance.
CAS latency isn't a measure of time, it's a measure of clock cycles. Increasing the frequency negates a high CAS latency by achieving similar or better first word latencies to those of DDR4.
well i would say same but i kinda just oc'd mine to 15-15-15-33 stable so it was nice
great video bud thanks for the info, I have been wondering this for a few weeks now.
Wow, those are some pretty amazing results

@@DawidDoesTechStuff don't worry, it's awesome content.
The biggest speed boost iGPU will get is from on die V-Cache (used like Infinity Cache). This reduces the dependency for higher bandwidths which is a good thing as DDR5 is still very very slow compared to proper dedicated memory set ups.
Once Apple, Intel and AMD get serious about iGPUs we will hopefully switch to HBM3 on package, 64GB of this as a uniformed system memory would massively increase graphical performance plus overall system performance too. It would be like having 32 channels of DDR4!!
I've been looking for a video like this since ddr5 launched. I haven't seen your channel in my recommended feed in a while. I look your channel up to make sure you're still alive. you are, and you've made the one video I've been searching for. amazing
Your videos are always unique keep it up man
A video about ddr5 said a bottleneck might also be caused by the "loose" timings.
prove it!
ruclips.net/video/5wQ9MGrTvwc/видео.html
My opinion is, before we see these big improvements you are talking about, the DDR5 needs to mature. Notice the timings on DDR5 and look in some AIDA64 or similar software for latency in ns. There is quite big difference, and before these get lower, DDR5 may not give us a huge boost in FPS. But the potential is definitely there
Even with faster DDR 5, UHD 770 wont be noticeably faster. UHD does not need as much bandwidth, it will be a 1% or 2% faster with much faster memory (something like 7600 34-38-38-76)
Exactly when ddr4 came out AMD ryzen use to crap it self, intel on the other hand xmp use to make the ram take a dump best to wait a yearish to let it mature
@@volodumurkalunyak4651 Honestly, I think even RDNA2 based APU graphics won't benefit a lot from a current DDR5 compared to something like DDR4 3600 CL14 speeds & latencies. Maybe we find this out one day, but I think the latencies of current gen DDR5s would just kill the bandwith potential, unfortunately.
@@thealien_ali3382 That's the case with every new technology, DDR3 when first came up was worse than best DDR2, etc. that's why it needs to mature and jumping to DDR5 wagon now is risky
@@krzysztofmaska2215 AMD Radeon Vega 56 has 56 Vega cores (at 1156Mhz) - 7 times as many as Vega 8 (within 5700G APU, those run at 1900Mhz) and 410Gb/s memory bandwidth. VEGA 8 from 5700G should scale to around 96Gb/s memory bandwidth (Roughfly equal to 128 bit memory at DDR5-6400) or even beyound that.
iGPU's are going to get pretty amazing real soon.
I'd love to see AMD release large APU's that fit in a TR style board. I know that this would cut into their gpu sales. But, this would be amazing for low/midrange.
Imagine upwards of 20 to 30 Navi cu's with V/Infinity cache. It'd be an expensive setup. However, with card scarcity and fewer entry level options I think a lot of people would go for this.
he's tonguing the ram again don't steal that computer from him it's reliability is questionable at this point rofl
Think. What is going to happen if we put the actual gpu in the cpu. How big of a target it would be for scalpers ?!
This actually makes it more of a curiosity that what those AMD APUs based on RDNA2 and lets hope Navi would do when working with DDR5. We may finally reach a future where PC/Laptop APUs are capable of 1080p gaming on all games. (Not counting console APUs, those are just a different scenario)
I agree! Can't wait for beast mode APUs.
I think the 3d v-cache is going to make more of a difference
Freaking love your humor man. Awesome content 😂
This is really informative thanks Dawid. It would be nice to be able to have my next pc game machine be the size of a console, but still have the hard hitting graphics for 4k wide screen performance.
Man, Corsair really cheaped out on that AIO in all the weird places. It just looks both cheap and expensive at the same time...

Great content...
Looking forward to see new content
Now we just need to see AMD's new Navi APU's on DDR5. Hell. Even some super fast DDR4.
does ddr5 taste like winning to you?🤣🤣🤣
It was pretty interesting to watch.
Would be great also to test this new generation with the Ryzen's Infinity fabric.
And also, would be great to redo those tests some day in the future, thus maybe manufactures would change something.

I like the speed of this scroll much better. Thank you for slowing it down a bit .
I was waiting for this video. Hope you revisit this in a year or so when we get some development on DDR5. I’m expecting 8000mhz and 34 timings or better. I’ve seen a few things hinted at it in laptop reviews but nothing in depth.
While I enjoy the content on all the new stuff, I always loved when you'd find what it would take to blow all the old stuff up.
I think having DDR5 for now is just a way for DDR5 to enter the market, just like when Skylake came with DDR3 and DDR4 motherboards. The difference will be noticeable when the new hardware is made with only DDR5 in mind.
We need more "Dawid tasting memory and making noises" content
I didn't understand the title at all and still eagerly watched this.
This was an alarmingly educational and professional video. I didn't even spit out my coffee once.
Not even with the lick at the beginning? 😂
Awww, you flatter me. 😅
DDR5 is a novelty at this point. Alder lake can only take advantage of up to DDR5 4800. Raptor lake though will take advantage of DDR5 5600. That and the CAS latency is high due to it being a brand new generation of ram.
It'll be refined soon enough, definitely waiting for now tho.
You make an interesting point.
Suppose for a moment that AMD decides to launch Ryzen 6000 APUs for both DDR4 and DDR5 platforms, it wouldn't be unexpected for the GPU part to be different. If a DDR4-platform APU becomes bandwidth limited, there's no need for more CUs to be added to it. It can't be put into a DDR5-platform, as the memory controller is on the APU.
What about gaming with e-cores AND i-GPU ? We need to know Dawid…
Yes, this! Great idea, Alain.
Dawid straight up rick rolling us low key via a cooler..... We on to u sir!
Of course you would dawid, I dare you to keep that as your aio gif. (Rick Roll)

This is a fucking brilliant angle to investigate dude! 😎
I've never wanted a new RAM generation so little lol
The vega 11 and vega 8 igpus with ddr4 3600mhz dual channel ram is still better than intel uhd 770

6:33 DDR4 ~ 80 dollars - 47.5fps vs 7:40 DDR5 ~ 600 dollars - 48.3fps (edit to say the Corsair sku is not public, they do not list it but the next closest they have is around the 600 dollar mark)
Strapping a DDR5 to an intel iGPU is like putting a jet engine in a Yugo car.
Classic Dawid content, keep it classy.
How about some overclocks on the iGPU? As it is a K series chip, you could probably get some extra performance by overclocking it, especially since you could bump it up quite a bit considering you can underclock the CPU part of the package without losing on performance. I'd love to see how this iGPU scales with core clock increases, especially since AMD iGPUs usually gain 30-40% performance when overclocked.
Did.... Did he just lick the ram stick? This right here is why I stay subscribed , love the content
It's good to see you at the moment I wake up ypu are so impressing
Love the dominator series, classic
lot of work went into this video :)
I'm surprised Dawid wasn't more disappointed with DDR5's lack of benefit for igpu. Good video though
Not surprised, the igpu itself is the real bottle neck, let see what AMD or Arc IGPU are capable of doing.
blame intel and their sad excuse for graphics
Yeah, the APU is the real bottleneck and considering the latency issues, it the lack of scaling did make sense to me.
It's got really bad latency, when they get past that in a few generations it might be worth the upgrade.
this video is what I needed
That's one helluva display on that cooler.
Yeah with those ballooned CL numbers I expected DDR5 to not excel at gaming.
Was not expecting the rickroll 😹

This is why I'm excited for the Steam Deck: it's got DDR5 and an AMD APU with RDNA 2 graphics
THAT is a proper example of the difference, not intel. intel has always been bad at iGPU
LPDDR5*
@@viztiz316 You're right, I read somewhere before it was just DDR5, but now that I double check it says 16GB LPDDR5
The only RUclipsr that thought to test this

Interesting. Next video should be the 5600G vs 12600k with DDR4 3600. That would make for some good content considering the gpu shortage. I didn't know the 12 gen Intel igpu could keep up with AMD's APU's. It should be an easy video to make considering your new favorite sponsor, Microcenter, has the 5600G on sale for $199 right now
yeah boy!
Hum amd's APUs are sometimes 2 to 3 times faster than even UHD770

Dawid Does Tech Stuff : the DOMPLATZ joke is back !!!! Cool !!!!
Been waiting for this. I have been wondering if DDR5 RAM will make igpus comparable with discretes of comparable computing power
So the next-gen iGPUs from AMD based on RDNA 2, will probably be able to make use of the additional memory bandwidth from DDR5. Hope that's true.
4:42 Dawid just rickrolled all of us
This will help more AMD's IGPs on their Vega parts in future. Even on their mobile parts. The upper end ones are MUCH more powerful than the UHD 770. Vega 11 essentially crushes UHD 770, when AMD update their IGPs and have DDR5 memory next year then test those.
That is exactly what I wanted to write in comments too)
they will make navi igpu, rdna 2 now released 2 cores of gpu stronger than vega 7 which is better than vega 11
Corsair: Hay Dawid let's sponsor a video for RAM.
Dawid: I'm gonna lick it.
Corsair: Uh... What? No.
Dawid: Too late. Licking it.
It's going to be worth re-running tests once alder lake mobile chips with 96eu iGPUs launch, assuming it's possible to find laptop platforms with both memory types. Intel's desktop chip iGPUs are like 1/3rd the size of their largest mobile iGPU so if you're going to see iGPU scaling with memory bandwidth, it's going to be in the mobile parts. If I recall correctly, there was significant scaling on the 1165G7 going from DDR4-3200 to LPDDR4X-4266. Not sure if you'd get more out of going to DDR5-4800 or LPDDR5-6400, but it would be nice to find out.
I can`t wait to see what AMd will do with ddr5 , I am expecting gtx 1050 performance at least , with the apus , and that will be amazing :))
Corsair cooler is "never going to give you up... never going to let you down."
The topic we all waited for
This is a fantastic topic.
If the igpu clock frequincy stays the same you can put the fastest ram and performance will still be the same , because vram frequincy is not the limiting factor , usually its vram size and core frequincy that limits performance . Even when you overclock for normal gpus , you raise them both , for best performance memory and core clock should both increase .
Ahhh Dawid..
Walking the fine line between awkward and funny
Never expected to get rick rolled by a 3-inch water cooling display....
Welp. now "mmmm Tastes like Winning" needs a Tshirt.
An loving this trail of videos
young ddr5 technology have large timing, more delay than high end dgpu lpddrx ram, the ram near the gpu chip. I still don't see ddr5 timing significant decrease up to now
Missing a 14900k vs 8700G battle of the ultimate desktop iGPUs video :)
I noticed a 27% decrease in CPU usage with the Dom Plats at 5200. This is indicative of higher computational threshold and throughput optimization.
The SoC in the Steam Deck as well as those new Apple ARM chips with UMA really shows that we should overthink our way of addressing APUs.
I get the feeling that the limitation is the very fact of RAM using an expansion slot, with the contact fingers and track lengths to the CPU neccessitated by it, and that the toplogy (whether DDR4 or DDR5) pretty much matured to its limit several years ago. Now it's a game of swings-and-roundabouts with frequency and timings. IOW, don't hold your breath for that DDR5 low-latency "breakthrough". DDR5 might have improved GPU card performance but in that application the memory chips are surface-mount right next to the processor.
An APU with a large amount of 3d v-cache right on top of it might change things
One thing with that Corsair DDR5 is it won’t fit with the air coolers I typically use. Those are some tall sticks.
Since Dawid didn't say it in this video,
LINOOOOODE!
Aww i seen that damm sneaky rick roll in there :D
Since IGPUs scale well the faster the memory is, I’m really looking forward to when AMDs APUs can get some of that DDR5 goodness.
We'll see a taste soon with steam deck and laptops on LPDDR5 (which isn't DDR5, LPDDR is it's own lineage, but it's still much faster than DDR4).
I can't wait to try this.... in +10yrs when I can afford it!
4:42 BRUH I WAS LOOKING EXACTLY AT THE COOLER RIGHT HERE
We need thermonuclear computers. In a thermonuclear computer, the IUD is placed in an absolute vacuum of solid metal to operate at an absolute, extremely low temperature. In a vacuum, everything moves magnetically.
I can't believe I am saying this, but great informative video rather than just poking fun at something (do like those videos too by the way), just watch now other channels doing something similar. Great.
I thought the ips screen on the water pump was dumb until I saw rick getting jiggy with the rolling and realized... I am chump
Not to be offensive but anyone else thinks that David is really awkward about his sponsorships 🤣🤣
It might be hard but somebody's got to do the igpu content
Interesting how the socket cover plastic says LGA18xx as well...
While this is disappointing from a technical standpoint, its a damn relief from a financial one considering the prices for DDR5 are inflated worse than a GPU without hashrate limiters
From what i've tested, also Wendell over at Level1Techs and Steve at Gamers Nexus we found that the frametimes are so bad that the intel UHD750 in 11th Gen. Performed way more stable. Even the UHD630 in the 8700K, 9900K and 10th Gen. had much better frametimes. I'd rather run a solid and smooth 30fps than a spiky glitchfest 60fps.
