This song is about her relationship with current boyfriend Joe Alwyn who she has been dating for 4 years. It’s about how her fame and how much attraction she gets from the general public would be something that’s unavoidable and dating her will always be invasive and chaotic due to how much people read into her personal life and due to her high level of fame.
i’ve always loved the line, “all these people think loves for show, but i would die for you i secret.” she’s showing him that it’s not for show. even if no one else was watching she’d still love him.
Her songs can be interpreted in many ways but the fandom thinks this is about her and Joe, she's being on the limelight, and no matter what she does, he would always be on the spot, her life will always be in chaos and she's honest with her feelings to him, like, if u stand by me, there's always a drama, I will give u my all, even give u a child, but she cud never give him peace.
After a few years now, this is my fave song on the whole Folklorealbum. It's so raw and vulnerable. Though the obvious layer is how her fame and the creepy obsession with her love life means anyone with her will never be left in peace. But there are so many ways this can apply to ordinary people. Something in our lives can mean it won't be easy to be with us, no matter how deep we love. Plus, the music and her voice are just exquisite.
I have to admit that I'm not normally a Swiftie, but I did break down and buy this new album after seeing all the lyric videos Thursday night. It's actually really good. More Americana-Folk than pop and very mature lyricism. I think Exile is my favorite - a duet with Bon Iver that is really haunting. There's a whole subculture out there of people that decode the "Easter Eggs" (clues) in her songs and videos. This one appears to be about her boyfriend, UK actor Joe Alwyn. Basically that being with her comes with a lot of chaos. She can give him anything in the world except for peace. The Clowns to the West line = a dig at Kanye.
this album literally turned me into a swiftie. i loved every song and i decided to give some of her older albums a try, turns out she's always been fantastic and I was being stupid and missing out because of my own prejudice ughh
@@Claudia-ty5yr she works really hard at her craft and I have to admire that. She was over-exposed for a lot of years and I kind of resisted that, but as she's gotten older and, as it turns out, taken more control of her career, she's definitely gotten even better. That she cannot buy her old masters is criminal. I'm happy to hear that she's re-recording them now, at 30, as she will bring a much more mature voice and interpretation to the songs. I would not be surprised in the least if she changes some of the arrangements and even some of the lyrics just to spite Scooter Braun and Scott Borcheta. I mean, her fans will defintely buy ANY new recordings that she puts out so there's no risk in re-recording it all her way.
@@texasseastar agree! But I think the point is to keep the songs as similar to the original as possible right? So that peole aren't tempted to stream the old ones
@@Claudia-ty5yr Not sure if she can leave the songs the same because of the ownership of the masters - or that she would want to. It will be interesting to see what she decides to do.
@@texasseastar @texasseastar it's just the master of the literal recording though, she owns the melody and the lyrics, she could keep it the same if she wanted to. Whether she wants to or whether it would actually be beneficial is a different story. I guess we'll see. I'm personally most interested in her country albums, her voice was so young and undeveloped backed then. I'm actually thinking she might change the key in some of those since she's been using her lower register a lot more lately, she lowered Haunted a half-step when she did it live in the rep tour (it sounded amazing btw)
What I particularly about this song is the beat that you can clearly hear all through out the song. I see it as an anxiety-inducing part to represent the truth that she wants to impart about her not being able to give Joe peace. Even in simple ways. The beat keeps you restless, even tiring, once you had listened to the song for a number of times.
I think you should listen to the entire album, this is 2nd to last song on the album so you're missing a little bit of the story but yeah this is about how chaotic her life is, stalkers and everything.. This is her 1st alternative/folk album so I think you might enjoy it if you don't like pop too much. This is the 1st time she worked with Aaron (he's from The National)
Check out Taylor Swift - Ricochet. She wrote this one entirely by herself, and it’s Jack Antonoff’s favorite off the album Folklore. The context is she’s actually singing to her old label, who sold her masters against her wishes.
The whole folklore album should be an good listen. The album Red is also a good choice. Speak now is an album she written all by herself and it’s her telling stories each song. 1989, reputation, and Lover are from the pop genre, but songs aside from the released singles are faaaaar better. You just gotta listen. 🙂
yeah she saying her fame and everything in her world, betrayals, backstabbed, her music. Hence the line "There's robbers to the east (Scooter Braun from NY - the east) and clown the West (kye west), I keep you as sunshine..." . "And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences, Sit with you in the trenches Give you my wild, give you a child Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other". She just cannot give him peace... maybe about J0e that want peaceful love story.... "Is it enough?"... HER WORDSSSSS
Dude, you gotta listen to the entire album. It's going to blow you away. It's a collection of songs she wrote back in quarantine. Cardigan(lead single), August and Betty is about three views of a love triangle. Exile with Bon Iver is so good. Trust us, you will love it.
Recommend reacting to Exile by Taylor and Bon Iver, Betty, My Tears Ricochet, Mad Woman, Illicit Affairs, This Is Me Trying. they are really good tracks from her album. I have to say, i'm a big swift fan for over 10 years now and we as her fans are always annoyed that she picks her weakest songs as singles, and that's why everyone who only know her from the radio or the big stuff think she's that shallow pop star. her deep cuts are so much better than her singles.
A very nice, honest reaction. I really am enjoying Taylor’s folklore album in total. Over all of her work to me the deeper tracks, like All too Well from Red, are her better songs. Her singles often do not reflect her songwriting talent. In answer one of your questions, Aaron is a producer and is from the group The Nationals (I’m not too familiar with them) who she reached out to to work on this project. Also Jack Antonoff produced a few tracks on folklore as well. Taylor has worked with Jack on every album since her 1989 album.
Great video! You are one of the few people I saw who kinda figured out what the song's about. I think you would enjoy her new album "folklore" since you liked this song. I'd love to see your reaction to it if you ever decided to do the video.
The entire Folklore album is amazing. I love that this album is her storytelling and not only from her perspective. The first time I listened to it I didn’t connect the songs but the more you listen to it you’ll love the stories. She’s always been amazing with lyrics but the music on this album surprised me. This song is one of my favorites. I love this side of Taylor!!! Listen to Exile & Hoax.
You have to listen to Exile, Seven and Illicit affairs. She really outdid herself with this album. People are speculating that it will be her last one. And you're right, every lyric has many meanings... Nothing is "just a filler". Also the music is amazing. The guitar is calm, but there's that pulsating noise in the back, which gives an anxiety feel to it. I really enjoyed your *very surprised* reaction. I'mma subscribe for more taylor!
“Robbers to the east, Clowns to the West” she references the drama between her record label and Kanye West drama. (A whole hour long spill). Yes it’s about fame and everything that comes with it. She can’t give him what he gives her.
I haven't listen to much of Taylor Swift… She reminds me of Stevie Nicks which many of you probably don't remember who was a member of Fleetwood Mac… Anyway I like the song
The line "there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west"..... Here's my interpretation. "There's robbers to the east: The conflict regarding Taylor and Scooter Braun (from New York) and him disgracefully acquiring Taylor's Masters to her early records, AKA robbing her. "Clowns to the West": notice how West in the lyrics is capitalized. Referring to Kanye West and what a clown he is.
When you said she's saying so much even with one line... Yup that's exactly Taylor.. She's an amazing songwriter

As a long time Swifty, I LOVE seeing people's eyes go wide when they realize her talent. VINDICATION lol ❤🤣
I have a feeling you're gonna love the folklore album if you'll give it a chance and time to listen... Please react to this album 😊
Yeah no please please do

You definitely really understood the most important parts of this song. It is such an impactful song to me. So vulnerable.

Yes! Why does no one talk about this.
Such a good point!
Like her or don't like her, but you can't deny that she's an amazing songwriter
💯

“Clowns to the West” West being Kanye and Kimberly. That’s why it’s in capital letter W

I would recommend listening to more from this album. It’s really not poppy at all. You would probably like Exile
I interpret this as a song about insecurity. Not sure if you can really ever be enough for the other person. Pretty heart wrenching.
Great video! You are one of the few people I saw who kinda figured out what the song's about. I think you would enjoy her new album "folklore" since you liked this song. I'd love to see your reaction to it if you ever decided to do the video.
