I personally don't use an instrument to write my songs, because one: I don't know how to play anything, the Lord just taught me music theory this year, after I had already written 10 songs with no instrument. I just feel like it limits your songwriting and you want a song that is going to sound good without music anyway. The beauty is in the melody. So people can sing to God whether they have an instrument nearby or just washing the dishes one day and humming a worship song acapella. My theory is if a song sounds good without music, it will sound AMAZING with music, just my opinion. Love your videos, Don! I'm learning so much.
ive tried many times to write song both for worship , love song or inspirationa songs , i know how to play guitar and piano but i keep changing song because of the chords not connecting to the lyrics even tho it kinda good . It does limit the writing skills i will surely try to write without music 🤣😂✌
You could be onto something there... For instance I've heard of people whistling, humming, or singing an entire guitar solo. I agree that your instrument can be "limiting" and it may be better sometimes to just sing it the way you hear it. Also, I can see that sometimes you can come up with great songs even though you can't play any instrument ... but someone will at some point have to put music to your song.
LOL! Don you made me laugh when you said "unless one of you finishes it..." Thanks sir. Your Masterclass Videos have been of great inspiration to me as I begin my Gospel Music journey.
God bless you sir... IYANU from Nigeria!
I think psalm 18:29,30
Ps 4:11,12 Ps .34:1,2,3and Ps 40:1-5 .....beautiful song for good vice singer like you Pastor 🙏🙏 God bless you and family🙏🙏🙏Amen
Great session. Very informative, yet inspiring too. So many nuggets just dropping spontaneously as the man speaks... For instance "finish your songs"... "song writing happens in many iterations"... "don't try to fix everything about your song all at once - perfect it over many iterations"... "use your phone (or something similar)to record your song ideas right when they happen"... "the lyrics must sit on the music - so play and sing dah dah dah as place holders for the words"... "find a way to keep your approach and perspective fresh eg use different instruments "... "use all the tools and technology available to you as a song writer "... "collaborate with others as a way to grow and also keep songs coming "... "prepare for your collaborative writing sessions, go in with a song idea"...
Thanks very much pastor Don, more grace sir. I love your songs they inspire me so much. Lord you seems so far away I use this when am worried to pray hahaha. I was very happy to see you sing with Frank Edward. God bless you sir. Much love from Cameroon
