Today I pulled out the stalk and thought it would work like my lilies did. But there were moist what seemed like Roots at the base when I pulled the tall thing out.

That’s ok if the stalk was passed blooming. This years growth and blooms will come from the basal green growth at the base. You can plant the stalk in a humus rich potting mixture and set it inside in a sunny spot. It may take. 🪴

    Thank you for this!
So when DO I take down the stalks? In the beginning of the next season? Let it be over winter?

@@belbush5608 I let mine overwinter. The seeds are I’ll feed the birds and start new plants as well. 😌

@@TinthiaClemant thank you so much for your reply! I love my cardinal flower plant. Have a black truffle variety. Gorgeous. Do they spread? I bought my two plants by chance and now can’t find them anywhere:(.

@@belbush5608 if you leave the seed stalks they will spread. I actually posted a short video on showing how my plants have spread. That’s one of the reasons that I like to leave the seed stalks and I like to feed the birds as well. Good luck with your plant and if you’re having trouble finding varieties, I would check out a few of the online perennial gardens. I can recommend Bluestone perennials. I don’t receive monetary compensation from them, but I have luck with their plants. happy gardening.
