I had my Home Assistant in the Virtualisation Station, but twice a day, I had to manually reattach the Conbee II Stick to the VM again, as it gets disconnected without a reason every couple of hours... I ended up using a separate computer for the HA installation...
great vid. but should have shown how to install deConz for noobies like me. I can search from the integrations but it asks for the HOST. Which IP address do I need to put in there?
@@SmartHomeMakers thanks for your swift response. When I enter my home assistant IP it asks: Unlock your deCONZ gateway to register with Home Assistant.
Nice tutorial ! *liked/subscribed* I'm waiting for my Conbee II stick to come in and plan to plug it to my Raspberry Pi 4 / Home assistant. I hope Lidl releases those Zigbee products in France otherwise I might try the Ikea or Aqara Zigbee products.
First of all thanks for the Sub & Like! How did you find the channel ? I have the Aqara products work really well (contact and motion sensor). I purchased an Ikea smart plug to review on the channel.
@@SmartHomeMakers I started looking up the Lidl Smart Home products on RUclips 2 days ago, stumbled on one of your videos then was suggested that one today by YT's algorithm. You don't need Lidl's hub if you use the Conbee 2 stick, right ?
If anyone is interested, the LIDL movement sensors also work out of the box with a regular zigbee dongle in HA using ZHA Bridge. No need for the gateway. So cheap movement sensors!
I’m unclear as to whether the Lidl gateway is required. You mention using the Conbee at the start, but then also the Lidl gateway at the end of the video. Is just the Conbee sufficient? (And can it do everything?) Thanks.
Enjoyed your video, thanks. Did I spot that you have some of their colour bulbs installed? Do they work well and at full brightness with the Conbee ? I have paired one to a Hue hub and although it works it is noisy and all colours are very dim (I'd estimate 10% even when turned up full). When in white mode it's much brighter! Any comments appreciated please before I invest in a Conbee. Many thanks.
Hi Grahame! Thanks for the feedback :) Yes I do have some E14 bulbs in a lamp with a Philips Hue bulb, I'm currently testing them out but still early days! All my other light bulb are either lifx or Hue which cost much more, but have been super reliable for years with no replacement so far. It is a decision between cost vs a proven brand in this space. If you use home assistant in my opinion a conbee is a must have :) (link in the description if you want to support the channel)
Hiya, thanks for this tutorial. I am just wondering if anyone knows how to reset the led strip so that I can pair it up with HA? it's been that long a go. Can't remember how :)
Good video. You've got a new subscriber! I've got a question regarding the Conbee II USB stick. I've got a Synology NAS as a Christmas Gift and plan on using it for HA. I'm interested in getting some of the Lidl Zigbee products but require a gateway. I'm unsure whether to purchase their own or use the Conbee II method. My question is, what is the range like on the Conbee II in comparison to a hub? My NAS will be stored under the stairs so I'm concerned the signal will be weakened by it's location.
Hi Paul! Thanks for the sub, good question! The Conbee II stick will enable you to control even devices from other brands like Hue, Ikea, Aqara and now Lidl just to name a few. The dedicated gateway does cost less initially, but it is one more ethernet port and power cable that you need to find space for. To help with the reception of the Conbee II stick get a USB extender. How big is the property you are talking about ?
@@SmartHomeMakers it's a fair size. My main issue is my garage is at the other end of the garden and I want to have some devices there such as door sensors etc. I have the Google WiFi mesh network so most of my smart home devices are WiFi as my mesh networks allows for a bigger area to be covered but I'd like to try and move away from WiFi at some point. Maybe by trying tuya convert. Just enjoying your video with Will Surridge👍
A great news is that every zigbee device acts as a repeater! This means that you can just put a new zigbee device to increase your range (obviously it has to be always turned on... So consider a smart plug instead of a light bulb). Of course you can buy an ikea repeater, but for the same price you can get a useful device...

Do the color bulbs have separate white spectrum LEDs? The colored ikea bulbs don't, so white tones don't look very good.
