This Tutorial was created a few months ago now. Since then the Tuya API and menus have updated and changed slightly. The steps still work but the menus are now in different places. I will be creating a NEW Tutorial for this soon. Cheers.
This is great news. Getting an odd error when I go to scan my app saying "You cannot scan the QR code to add a device deployed in another data center." I'm sure this is some misconfiguration on my Tuya Cloud project, but I cannot figure out which.
Hey Rodney. For that error check the data center your project is registered to, and the data center the devices are on. Tuya made a change a few days back that changed how cross region development works. You can find info on the relationship info here : developer.tuya.com/en/docs/iot/oem-app-data-center-distributed?id=Kafi0ku9l07qb In short, make sure you are using the same data center for your project and where the devices are registered (you can check device region in the tuya/smartlife app). Hope that helps!
Very good video. Thanks for very clear instructions. What I must admit, is this: after watching this video, I have become convinced that having a local smart home is simply too much effort. As much as I would have loved to run HA locally only, this process is obviously ONLY for my Tuya devices. I have about 35 of them!!!! Then there are the Sonoff products, again, probably about 30. Then, in future, there may be Aqara, as well as Shelly devices. I must admit, working with Home Assistant for about two years now. The more I want to smooth it out, and get things to actually work the way I want....the more I think that it's easier to just get up out of the chair, and press the light switch. Also, it's quicker doing that once or twice a day, rather than spending hours upon hours upon hours figuring out how this works, and then spending hours upon hours upon hours, imlementing it, and then spending hours upon hours upon hours finding the problem if there's an error, and then spending hours upon hours upon hours if something changes. Man! Such a pity, I really wanted this to work and be nice 🙂 Still, the video...excellent. My motivation to use this stuff: less than zero. I am unfortunately going to remain sold-out to something like Google, since you pretty much just plug your s""t in, and connect and go! Sure, it can't do everything you want it to, and sure....YOU are the product, they're mining your data, and sure....it's not as safe...but, then again, getting behind the wheel of a 2.5 ton automobile is also dangerous :-) But, after all is said and done, I presently feel...stuff it all. Plug in a Google Mini, plug in the Tuya/Sonoff devices, run them through their apps, and hey presto! I guess this is not the sort of comment that is really fit for this type of video. Sigh....
UPDATE - April 20th 2021 It looks like a few days after this post Tuya changed the options again. You should be able to follow this guide okay. But for anyone struggling, I have created another video detailing an alternate method for extracting the keys. Cheers UPDATE - March 25th 2021 As of today it looks like Tuya have updated the way there Dev accounts work. So it may be harder to link devices via an app. Another reason your devices are at the mercy of the cloud gods! I WILL BE CREATING A NEW VIDEO : on another method that doesn’t require the dev account. There's a few more steps involved but it wont require the Tuya Developer account and it will give you all your keys at once. Stay tuned 👀 NEW VIDEO SHOWING ALTERNATE METHOD - ruclips.net/video/YKvGYXw-_cE/видео.html Update from Tuya here : developer.tuya.com/en/docs/iot/open-api/user-guide/managing-devices/link-devices?id=Ka471nu1sfmkl ================================================================= PRIOR TO THE UPDATE - PRE March 25th (If you already setup a dev account) If your stuck or having any issues with this setup, I've also created a supporting video which goes over a couple of issues I had and the fixes. It may help you out. Also to note, the Tuya Dev website seems a little janky at the minute! You can catch that supporting video here : ruclips.net/video/t2S2KLtDj7I/видео.html
Watched your video first and then a second time following your lead. Other than a few changes to the Tuya Developer page, everything went well. Had some issues with the settings a for light. Using the yaml on the Github link for reference, I set: ID: 20, Brightness: 22, Color Temp: 23, Color Mode: 21, Color: 24, Scene: 25. Brightness values: 29/1000; Color Temps: 2700/6500 (though I'm not sure about the value and temp settings). Next up: setting up VLANs and restricting internet access.
Wow, did not expect this to be such a process. One would think that simply adding the Tuya API within Home Assistant would automatically store the devices locally. I've done a very simple process to store all my Sonoff devices locally and it works amazing! Hopefully Tuya can simplify this process in the future, for now I think I'll just stick with the cloud service. My Tuya devices are the only devices working via the cloud...
Tuya are working on the v2 integration. It does have plans for local control but its not currently part of it. It also supports way more devices :) Hopefully they do add it in the future and its a simple process.
Thanks so much. Great video. In my case I had to open a ticket to the Tuya guys to switch my newly made account from Chinese Mainland to Greece. Took 48h but it did the trick and I could eventually follow your guide. All good and everything worked! 😃
Your comment saved me plenty of nasty words which I was going to spit on Tuya when I saw that cyber security request. PS. I din't choose United States during sing up... I bet you did the same mistake.
You asked a few weeks ago if you could improve your videos in any way. This video shows that you’ve learned a lot from the feedback and improved significantly. Congratulations 👏👏👏 Thanks for this, I’ll give it a go and try following your instructions. All failures will probably be due to my inadequacies. 😉
Wicked! really appreciate the support. Still trying to find my footing but I am always open to feedback and suggestions. Trying to improve with each video. Give it a go, and give me a shout if your stuck! I've also created a supporting video which goes over some issues so give that a check too if your stuck.
Thanks, Mark. Apparently, something in the Tuya integration or server changed such that toggling a switch was no longer working. But, it works fine through Local Tuya. I would not have have had a clue how to set that up without your video.
Thanks for another great video. Now got Local Tuya working on my HA on Windows 10 with a smart plug, but I have lots of other Tuya devices and I don't understand two things. 1. How to set up multicolour/white bulbs? 2. How to set up wall sockets (mine have two sockets and a USB socket so there are in fact 4 options on the socket) Many thanks in advance.
Thanks Mark, a clear and understandable video, even with the Tuya developer portal changing quite a lot. Tuya local now doesn’t require you to find the local_id for a device, it automatically pulls it in when you add a new device to the integration in HA. On balance have decided to not use Tuya local and remain with the core Tuya integration. Whilst I was able to get my Tuya shed alarm system working as a ‘select’ entity (armed, disarmed, sos, etc), the UI of the Tuya core integration is better; and when I try to add my Tuya Temperature and Humidity sensors to Tuya Local, I just get an “unknown error see log” - maybe not supported even though its just numeric output. Hey ho!
watching this a couple of years later, could eventually link devices (once i linked the correct datacenter) and then took a while sifting through options until i found the one that gave a local key - site rearranged a lot sinceyour video, but the principle still worked ! Thanks.
Hi. I need a little help. I cant find API product menu ( see video 11:55) . I have only API explorer and i cant subsribe Smart Home Devices Managament. Thank You
This is awesome - one step closer to brining things all internal and not requiring outside cloud services! One thing I'm struggling with is the adding of the entities and all the different settings and what should go in there! May be missing something on the github page but just can't find what they should be set to!
Hey Ian. It is a little fiddly setting up the entities and is often more of a case of just trial and error. I do plan to go over adding entities in Local Tuya in a future video. What type of device are you trying to add? One thing you can do to try and figure out what the entities are is to just set them as sensors. Then if you use the Tuya/SmartLife app to control the device and change its status (turn it on, press a button etc.) you will see that sensor change and know what it is. Entities that's sensor state is true or false are obviously some kind of switch. In the Local Tuya Entities video I will show how to figure entities out, and how I added an unsupported Robot Vac and an unsupported diffuser. No ETA yet though sorry. Feel free to share a post via my FB Group and I will try my best to help you out. (Link in description) Cheers.
I initially had issues getting a light to work. (I actually ended up randomly guessing the settings and it worked!) I was able to confirm my settings by visiting the Github link and looking at the configuration.yaml example. (I did not add it to my yaml.) Using the yaml for reference, I set - Brightness:22, Color Temp: 23, Color Mode: 21, Color: 24, Scene:25. Brightness values: 29/1000; Color Temp: 2700/6500 (though I'm not sure about the value and temp settings). Hope this is helpful.
Thanks for sharing Derek. Yeah it can be guess work. I do plan on doing a video going through Local Tuya entities and also sharing the config/ids for settings I have used for devices I have set up.
Awesome, that is a great help. Had real problems trying to find my local key. Had to get around the new menus and such but found it in the end. Thanks.
Where did you find them? I didn't have to sign up for an API, which was strange until I noticed the OCT 15 popup a second viewing of the My Services. After running the debug, I don't see anything about a Local Key. Still poking around. NVM, just found it less than 5 mins commenting here. Once you are in the API Explorer, expand the General Devices Management, and click on Get Device Information. Enter the ID, and away you go.
Mark, I am fairly new to Home Assistant and have been using your videos as a reference. This is yet another good video. Thanks for taking the time and effort to educate me on my venture into Home Assistant.
Thanks for sharing. I think since I created the video, the feature has been removed and added a couple of times 😂. It should be working and I did create an alternate method which is a lot simpler for anyone that is struggling. Thanks for sharing Dmitry.
Hey Bill. I have another local Tuya video dropping tomorrow. Originally I said the dev tools method was easier, but as Tuya keep changing there API and access it's a little unreliable. Tomorrows video requires a few steps, but it will give you all the keys in one go.
Hi Mark, Thanks for this video, really good in your way of explaining steps. But I still have a question... this way, all the devices already in Tuya cloud are then controlled locally. What if we want to add a new device : do we have to connect it in Tuya cloud and then transfer it to Tuya local or is there a way to get it connected directly to Local Tuya ? Maybe it can be covered in you new video... Thanks !
Hi Mark, thanks so much for your very easy and simple step-by-step (and troubleshooting video) on getting Local Tuya to work. Now I am finally free of the overlords that control my Tuya GU10 bulbs as I am not able to flash them with Tasmota using TuyaConvert (firmware has the exploit fixed). I was able to get my 4 GU10 light bulbs and smart plug into HA using Local Tuya. Yay! The only thing is that my smart plug has power monitoring as well. However, when you want to set up the various additional sensors, the "IDs" that come up which I would represent the different data points and not clear as to what they mean in terms of current, voltage, etc, etc. Thankfully I don't need the power monitoring features at present, but I might need them later. All one sees is 2 (value 0), 4 (value 0), 5, 6 and 7 with no indication as to what they represent. Any ideas on where I can find this information?
Hey Glen. Glad the tutorials helped you out :) The DP documentation is pretty loose. Ive had to manually play around with some of my devices to figure out what they are / what they control. I did this by setting unknown dp values to just sensor entities. Then I modified the device with the Tuya/Smart Life app to see what changed (e.g setting a specific mode, toggling a set option). There are a few basic templates on the Local Tuya GitHub though. Cheers
@@MarkWattTech Thanks very much. I used those templates in figuring out the values for the lights, but smart plugs were not well covered at all. Good idea - I’ll create sensors and figure them out that way.
Thank you for the explaination. Very easy to follow and informative. I have a quession to ask. I have just added Tuya plug to my local Tuya but wondering how to get power consumptions in Home Assistant. Thanks
Thanks for this howto video. Been trying to do this over the weekend after seeing it on another channel but failed at every hurdle. Now seeing this I can see where I was going wrong. I'm gonna give it a another crack in the week now and see what mess I can make - lol.
Hopefully it helps :) I have covered another method for accessing Local Tuya if your still stuck with this one. Tuya are also working on local control as part of the official Tuya v2 integration
@@MarkWattTech Yes i did hear they are now working on a local version. How local remains to be seen but keeping an open mind. Gonna try local tuya first though as the cloud was in my room yesterday so foggy all my switches were lost 😬😂
@@seangraves3509 only time will tell 😁. I am thinking it will be a system where you still provision your devices with Tuya, but then you are able to make use of registered devices tokens to complete local controls. I will be covering it when its finally implemented :)
Thanks for video. I was done today setup for Local Tuya what uses My Nedis Wifi sockets. This was possible because you made that other video also what was pointing steps to get local_keys. There was few challenges on my route but comments was helping me out
Hi Mark, thanks for a great video, just some feedback, I set this up for the first time today and I was able to create all the necessary accounts and linking on the Tuya website. Just thought you would like to know that it worked for me. Cheers
Thanks Derek. The Tuya page has changed a few times (allowing and stopping accounts) a few times since I created this video. Glad it worked for you though :)
@@MarkWattTech Hi Mark, just an update on what I have discovered lately. In Australia and New Zealand one of the local stores sells their own branded TUYA devices (Arlec and Deta), these also run a rebranded TUYA app called Grid Connect. When I set up LocalTUYA I decided to set up a new Arlec device in the TUYA app instead of Grid Connect, which does work and I was able to get it connected on LocalTUYA. I then thought I would need to move my old devices from Grid Connect to TUYA, but this was not the case, I could add Grid Connect as an app in the TUYA API. Just thought that would help anybody in AU or NZ. Cheers
Hope it helped Karl! Yeah at the time of creating this video they where undergoing some big changes. As Local Control has seemingly been promised in the new integration I am waiting to see what comes from that before I do another Local Tuya or the advanced Local tuya setup video.
Mark, I have a few quick questions. What happens when a device is added to Local Toya? Does it dissappear from the device list on the Toya account? If additional devices are added in the home, how are THEY added to Local Toya. Your tutorials are among the easiest to follow. Thank you. But, this one has so many steps to follow, it is still difficult.
Hey Jamie. If you add it to local tuya it still stays in the tuya list (you can still use the tuya/smartlife app). If you can use both at the same time, but they can cause some strange oddities and sync issues. Unfortunately every device has to be manually added. Tuya still doesn’t have a great local option and it seems they have turned there back on what they have said about implementing a local solution.
Hello Mark, You explained very well how to integrate devices into HomeAssistant. It all worked for me, but how do you delete a device connected via Tuya from HomeAssistant?Greetings Dieter
i created a tuya IoT account in 2023. i could locate my key via tuya under 'device management' then 'query device details'. entered device ID and it returned in the json response perfectly.
Thanks for the detailed instruction I managed to add the Tuya based curtain motor but HomeAssistant can not control no response. Device went off line in Tuya interface too. Do you have any recommendations.
Hey Emre. I have just picked up a Tuya curtain device. When I get a second I will set it up and give it a go. Give me a nudge if you don’t hear from me (I might forget 😋)
I've just purchased a smart electrical heater. In the list in the integration. Is this listed. I'd on and off and it's thermostat. I don't want to go through all those steps to find out its not supported. Thanks great channel.
Great tutorial. With your help I set up 3 devices in Local Tuya successfully. Question I have: 2 of the devices are Smart Life bulbs. In HA they don't have the ability to dim, just on or off. Where if possible can I change things to allow brightness to be controllable?
Well - it seems you still have a dependency on the cloud here? Last time I checked out Tuya I got bad flashbacks to ifttt and lock-in fever and your jumps through hoops and it seems the cloud control option, or cloud trust option to be honest, that you talk about here is still an issue as this cloud solution has full access to your devices. But I appreciate seeing how you setup devices to at least keep working if your internet is out ....
Great video, thank you! In API Explorer "Get Device Details" changed to "Query Device Details". (Tuya IOT Platform looks a little bit different too :( , but it is not your fault)
Not sure is this was already the case at the time this video was made, but it is already possible to make some local tuya automations that work without access to internet just purely in the Tuya Smart app, from what I could gather this works specially with Zigbee devices and automations that do not require access to online elements such as the time of day. It's still limited but better than nothing.
Hi firdt of all thank you for all you videos that are very clear. I have a small question: how can I add in the same way an IP cam that is only working with Tuya/Smart life ? Many thanks
like the video, question I have two wifi networks and what I am seeing is if the device is configured in SmartLife app under SSID 1 and my home assistant is on SSID 2 it does not see the device when you go to configure it. Is this the way it works or am I doing something wrong. I can reconfigure the device in SmartLife app but was just wondering why tks keep up the informative videos
I think the Tuya device sees them as “different networks” which is why it doesn’t show up. Also make sure the device is in the supported list. Thank you! Plenty more to come :)
Very calm and clear tutorial, I followed it step by step, just like extracting local key video. Everything went oke. Still the devices are not available in Home assistant, they show up but keep unavailable. Do I miss a step? Do I have to remove de Tuya integration? From what I see you have your tuya integration still running or did you disable al entities before you started?
@@MarkWattTech thanks for asking. No unfortunately not yet. I got a step closer recently with 1 smart plug so I thought I solved it but the next smartplug did not work (the input_boolean kept getting switched of somehow) and trying to reinstall it gave an error (because the id already existed). I ended up restoring a back-up and gave up for now (other priorities), especially because I saw there is now support for the motion sensor in local tuya yet and that is the most important item I want quicker response time from.
Loving the video's they are much needed!! . I don't know if anyone has had this problem but I am missing a few devices from the Tuya IoT platform and the Tuya Extractor. From HA the Local Tuya has 2 Device ID's that don't exist anywhere else when crossed referenced. The missing device all work from with in Bluestacks and my phone. Any ideas?
Some devices just aren't supported by the Tuya or Local Tuya integration. You would be best to check the device ID's against the Tuya API to see what they actually are. The new Tuya v2 integration supports way more devices and plans to offer local control at a future date.
@@MarkWattTech Hey Mark thanks for the quick reply. I have only been with HA for just over a week so I am a total newbie. I have followed your video's to get me to the place where I'm at now so thanks. Will Tuya v2 be coming out soon?
@@tonymiles1888 I have a few videos on it allready and I’m currently doing a series following each big update. It is out now in Beta and can be setup via HACS.
Hello mate. All good now and I can see all the discovered Tuya devices on my Lan, thank you very much for your great and detailed videos. Just more question(s) please, when configuring the discovered devices, I see that there is a value for the device IP address that I have to enter in the Host box, what will happen in the case of the device getting a different IP address from my DHCP, will it fail then? and if so, do I need to reserve a fixed IP address for each device? and if I have to do so, how can I get the MAC address for each device? Thank you very much mate you have a been a great help and I can tell you that I watched 3 other guys talking about the same thing, Local Tuya, and I only managed to understand it from your videos. Have a great day
Thanks for this video. Unfortunately, a year later, all the devices in the local Tuya stopped working on my home assistant as the expiry ran out. Even if we get the local keys and presume the devices would run locally, Tuya still has control over it indefinitely, and that's why all my devices and automation bound to local Tuya completely stopped working at the end of the trial period. If there's something different to what I have done to prevent the devices from going completely "offline" on Home Assistant at the end of the trial period, please do kindly let me know! Thanks.
Hello, new here, great video! Thanks for the effort. Quick question... can you remove the bulbs from the tuya servers after this or do they have to stay active? What happens if a power outage occurs and my router reboots?
Great video Mark, but it's old enough that the Tuya screens have changed and I can find the API selections that you describe in this video, I am old and therefore slow, but also I don't give up and I will keep trying to get this to work.
Thanks for these fantastic videos! I know this video is a few months old, managed to navigate through the new menus but still got the dreaded 1106 error. I've checked my DC's and all match Western America, which I assume is correct for USA. Any ideas?
Maaaan!!! I am an big fan of your not just for the content but coz the way u explain, it is awesome... thank you very much!!!! I have already a question =) I am setting up my 1st tuya devide which is a circuit breaker, it shows me consumption, scheadule, etc... but on the last bit of ur video you had set all off coz ur devide doesnt have those function, however on my mine should I set all true or there is a different setup??? the main reason to set locally it is because not missing any consumption meter, coz the cloud it keeps disconnection for rubish internet on the place.
Heya! Did you manage to resolve your issue? Glad you're enjoying the content :) Just as a small update for you - Tuya a working on a new Official integration which has Local control. However there's no ETA on this at the moment.
@@MarkWattTech didn't get yet... Great news... it will help a lot... Anyway, the funny thing is, when I set tuya it shows me some parameters that I believe are the info, I am going to send an image for you. Thanks for ur answer
Thank you for this useful video! Any way you can setup a dimmer switch on local tuya? Got it setup as an ordinary toggle switch, not sure what I missed to enable change in brightness
Im releasing a video (hopefully tomorrow) on the New Tuya integration. This new integration is being created by Tuya developers with assistance from HA and they plan on supporting more devices and Local Control! (Eventually). Feel free to check out my facebook group and share a post about the dimmer switch. Myself and others can then try and further assist :)
Hi, first of all. Thanks for this instructive video 🙏 I have some question. Some one use local tuya with video security system ? I understand the local tuya provide automation system more responsive. But I'm looking a way to get video system more fast. Because, some time when I wanna look on my video system on smartlife app, I get troubleshooting with system encryption. Maybe local tuya can fix this ? Or Maybe there is an other way ? Thanks in advance for help from all 👍
Hey :) I don't think the tuya integration works with video/camera at the moment (I could be wrong). I dont have any Tuya cameras to test with though. I dont think they are listed in supported devices either. With your cameras are you just trying to add them into HA? Do they have RTSP feeds? you could just link them in HA with those feeds. Cheers.
@@MarkWattTech no the camera are not listed inside HA. The video connection trough Smartlife is very unstable. I thought local tuya can be solve my problem
Hi thanks for this, I have been having trouble with the tuya integration on homeassistant with controlling my tuya app curtain. The problem I am having after following your guide is to set up the curtain. It doesn't work when I use the cover entity. Do you have a video showing how to connect a cover entity?
I don’t think I made it clear enough in the video. But to add mew devices you just click to add the Local Tuya integration again (each device has to be manually added (Maybe this will be improved in the future).
Mark - you put together some great tutorials. Just finished watching each of your local tuya, key extraction videos. Seems like the various techniques are no longer available? Any recommendations, or video in the works on how to get the keys?
Heya :) you can still use the web to get the local keys. The site layout is now just a little different. Tuya constantly keep moving bits so it’s hard to keep up with videos
@@MarkWattTech - Thanks for that! You're right, the keys can now be found under "General Device Capabilities | General Devices Management | Get Device Information" off the Tuya Developers site.
Thank you Matt. To try and unclog my wifi network, I have switched to Zigbee for a lot of my smart devices. Do you know anything about Local access for Zigbee devices? (Did not seem I could add the gateway, which was the only one with an IP address but wonder if you knew of anything or alternatives please?)
Hi Mark if you add it to local tuya do you still be able to control it from the app when is not at home ? Do you have any video upgrading sonoff devices with tuya app (firmware)... My ideia was to get some of my tuya devices and extract firmware and than flash in the sonoff devices) I just not found easy way to doing it and also maybe some devices firmware not go to be compatible I pressume? would be possible put tuya app on the Smart Scene Wall Switch Sonoff NSPanel ? thank you
Hello , nice video. One question , did you let the Tuya integration installed ? Because I see that you have both Tuya and Tuya Local installed in same time. Thanx a lot !
Thank you!. You can have both installed at the same time like I have in this demo. And both will work. If you want to jump to local only you can just remove the standard Tuya Integration :)
Thanks for the video Mark. A followed all and it worked until 15:13 - Setup Local Tuya using obtained local keys. I installed local tuya through hacs and restart but cant find the integration in the normal integrations section. I cant find this problem in your troubleshoot video. Do you have any idea?
Hey Mark, thanks for the video. I was able to get local tuya set up, however I cannot add more than one device in the integrations section? I added a fan and was able to add both the fan and light as entities but it won't let me add an additional fan. Any suggestions would be helpful!
Mark - Awsome video. I was able to get this after zillion other video reference. A quick question.. shall i revoke access of iot device from tuya platform?? Since its all about local communication.
I would as it then makes them truly local. However if there are any issues and the device forgets the network etc you have to repeat the whole process which is a bit of a pain. Tuya are working on local support in the new v2 integration, so hopefully this will all just become super simple :)
Hi Mark- I removed the device from smartlife and also revoked authorisation.. in both cases the integration broke.. i am having second thoughts if this is really local.. in my opinion local tuya shall be able to handle the device on its own else smartlife becomes a duplicate. Your thoughts.
Hi, I see you pinned a comment that you will be making a newer updated video of how to set this up, have you done that yet? or when do you plan on doing that, I would really love to watch it so I can set it up but with how different things are now compared to this video I'm lost and confused.
Hi Mark, thanks for the helpfull tutorial. Menu's and API's have changed, but i got it to work. After the devices were setup in HA, i tried to remove them them from the Tuya smart app, to remove all connections with te cloud. Buy then the devices stopped working. So i guess you have to keep the Tuya smart app intact? Does this mean that all commands are send locally but the state of de device will remain visible in the Tuya smart app, and so in the cloud? Greetz
Hi Mark, thank you always for your great videos. I learned a lot about integrating my Tuya devices to Home Assistant. I'm now trying my luck to integrate to Local Tuya as I find the Tuya V2 slow in responding when activating switches and automations. I just have a question, do I need to install a zigbee usb coordinator when I use Local Tuya in Home Assistant? Thank you.
Hello Mark. Congratulations on the videos. I'm a follower of yours... without useful. I was installing LocalTuya and when I was installing one of the devices I had a problem on the computer, and Had to start the process of installing the device from the start ... but now it always aborts... I was able to install other devices, but the one was "hanging". Can we reset the installation process? Or somehow delete already installed devices in localtuya?
Hey Diogo. Oh no! You should be able to delete the device thats failing. If you head into your integrations, you should see local tuya. Select the device thats not working. Select the 3 dots and click delete (its like deleting an integration but it only deletes one device at a time). You should then be good to just re add it.
Hi Mark, thanks for the video, its very easy to follow and understand, a silly question, once I have successfully added the device into local Tuya in home assistant, does that mean that I no longer need to have the hardware/sensor/switch enroll in Tuya as it will run locally?
Heya. Its a little confusing as it's a hybrid (as you need cloud connection to get local keys). If you block the devices connection on your network fully, it will work locally. But if it falls of the network or loses connection, you will need to set it up again fully (full add via Tuya etc). If you do remove it from Tuya, make sure it is first fully blocked from external access.
Looking for some help on adding IR remote ("Domo-22-a2") to HA. I can add the diven using local tuya but I can´t control it. It does not add a remote entity
Hi mate, I live in Australia and I use the Brilliant Smart app which uses the Tuya backend so when I got to the QR code bit it threw an error saying 'server is busy' then another one re 'user biding ID' or something when I tried again. Would you happen to know a work around for this? I wonder if I have to install the actual Tuya app for this to work? Thanks in advance.
Heya :) I’m not to sure for that particular app sorry. On my channel I have another method for extracting local keys. You may be able to extract the keys from the Brilliant App (again not tested) but should have the same principle. Check out : ruclips.net/video/YKvGYXw-_cE/видео.html
@@MarkWattTech Somehow the app got linked as I just checked it so now I can see all devices which are on my Brilliant Smart app. I then got the devices ID and Local Key however I'm using Hubitat and the device handler which I'm using requires a 'control endpoint' number which you are supposed to get using a package sniffer but I just can't find one that works. Would you happen to know another way of doing this? Thanks.
Another great video! I've got plugs working fine but for some reason my bulbs get added, the first worked but then keeps saying unavailable. Is this maybe me making a mistake with the Identity part and colour settings. Bit confused with the value 0, value 1 and value 0000000fg I'm assuming is colour. Thanks again
Thanks for a great and helpful video. Local tuya did work in first try. But now i stopped working anymore. Did Tuya do something? Or is this issue only my problem?
Hi Mark I set up the IOT account following the steps for the home assistant tuya cloud integration then added Local tuya. I've got a 3rd party device that uses Tuya as its back end (Kids colour changing clock) When added to the tuya integration It has no entities. Do you know if there is any way to find out the entities to add it to the local tuya integration?
Thank you :D I don't have any tuya IR devices to test with. But if Local Tuya can see the device you might be able to add some of the functionality by settings it's entities up as sensors and switches. It may be limited though.
Thanks for another great video Mark. I did all the steps that you have mentioned but for some reason my local tuya doesn't recognize any of my devices while the regular Tuya is recognize all of them. Can you help here? Thanks
Stuck at this point with home assistant: Connection to device succeeded but no datapoints found, please try again. Create a new issue and include debug logs if problem persists.
Hi there. Another great video, very helpful as i am brand new to HA. One quick question, Once you have put the smart device (switch etc) on your local Tuya, is it totally off the Tuya cloud or is it on both instances to use ? TIA
Once you put it in local tuya it is kind of in a hybrid state. You can communicate locally with it, but the cloud connection is needed to get the local key. You will also need to block the network access for the device. I would recommend only using one integration as they can make each other go out of sync and mess with your automations. Both instances can control the devices.
First of all: Nice video which is easy to follow even if your not a native speaker. However when trying to follow either this tutorial or the one for cloud configuration it becomes frustrating quit soon. For the HA integration via cloud solution there are abolutely no devices shown at all and for tuya local integration it doesn´t bring up my light sensor but only the Zigbee gateway (which obviously doesn´t deliver any valuable data points). Not even entering the device credentials manually allows to get the device into Home assistant ("An unknown error occurred. See log for details.") Anybody had the same issue and knows how to fix it?
Hello, tried this yesterday as a test with a plug and it works although some things changed at the tuya site. But Now I would like to remove the tuya app from my phone therefore using the plug only local and without a internet connection to tuya. so I disconnected the plug from the smart life app (it started blinking again). Checking if the plug can still be used in home assistant, but after deleting the plug in the smart life app it's also unavailable in HA. Are my actions wrong and do I still need to have all devices in the smart life app or do I need to travel another road for this? If this is the way it is then i'm still hooked on Tuya and stil need to have a connection to Tuya for registering devices online. Can You elaborate?
Excellent video!!! I do have an issue, when I go to Home Assistant and click on the dropdown box, when installing localtuya, it does not show any device available devices (I let it sit for 10 minutes with no response). So, I tried the manual method by entering the information manually and was able to get plug1 of 4 working properly but, how do I manually enter the other devices, since there is only one device id, local_key and IP address for the powerstrip on my network? Essentially, how do I manually add my other plugs?
Hey Patrick. I don't have an extension lead to test, but I would think you could add each of the plugs on the strip as an individual switch entity. Does it show many Data points? Feel free to post some screenshots etc. on my Facebook Page or my newly created sub reddit. I can try and help you out more then :D
Are you sure it is still free? I lost my connection to Home Assistant and I can find how to make it again. I can see some of my API has run out of the 1 month trial period. What can I do?
hi mark, just found this. im totally new with ha and all my stuff is tuya. unfortuately im at thelast bit but itsays "Connection to device succeeded but no datapoints found, please try again. Create a new issue and include debug logs if problem persists" any thoughts?
Thanks very much for this! It has changed a fair bit since this was made, but with this, a bit of trial and error, and the important comment by @Stephan Jones (which needs pinning) I managed to get all 16 of my Smart Life plugs' local keys and they all now work fine with LocalTuya.
While we do control the tuya device locally, the tuya device is theoratically still connected to the internet right, and using the smart life/tuya app would allow us to turn on the device outside of our local network. Any way to make a tuya device completely local?
This Tutorial was created a few months ago now. Since then the Tuya API and menus have updated and changed slightly. The steps still work but the menus are now in different places. I will be creating a NEW Tutorial for this soon.
Cheers.
was just following this tutorial to the point i got to api management and the damn thing has moved somewhere hha

@@MarkWattTech awesome cheers buddy great channel
This is great news. Getting an odd error when I go to scan my app saying "You cannot scan the QR code to add a device deployed in another data center." I'm sure this is some misconfiguration on my Tuya Cloud project, but I cannot figure out which.
Hey Rodney. For that error check the data center your project is registered to, and the data center the devices are on. Tuya made a change a few days back that changed how cross region development works.
You can find info on the relationship info here : developer.tuya.com/en/docs/iot/oem-app-data-center-distributed?id=Kafi0ku9l07qb
In short, make sure you are using the same data center for your project and where the devices are registered (you can check device region in the tuya/smartlife app).
Man! Such a pity, I really wanted this to work and be nice 🙂
Still, the video...excellent.
Sigh....
UPDATE - April 20th 2021
It looks like a few days after this post Tuya changed the options again. You should be able to follow this guide okay. But for anyone struggling, I have created another video detailing an alternate method for extracting the keys. Cheers
UPDATE - March 25th 2021
As of today it looks like Tuya have updated the way there Dev accounts work.
Stay tuned 👀
NEW VIDEO SHOWING ALTERNATE METHOD - ruclips.net/video/YKvGYXw-_cE/видео.html
Update from Tuya here : developer.tuya.com/en/docs/iot/open-api/user-guide/managing-devices/link-devices?id=Ka471nu1sfmkl
=================================================================
PRIOR TO THE UPDATE - PRE March 25th
(If you already setup a dev account)
If your stuck or having any issues with this setup, I've also created a supporting video which goes over a couple of issues I had and the fixes. It may help you out.
Also to note, the Tuya Dev website seems a little janky at the minute! You can catch that supporting video here : ruclips.net/video/t2S2KLtDj7I/видео.html
you helped me a lot thank you.
I was already giving up on local integration, now the spirit is back.
Watched your video first and then a second time following your lead. Other than a few changes to the Tuya Developer page, everything went well. Had some issues with the settings a for light. Using the yaml on the Github link for reference, I set:
ID: 20, Brightness: 22, Color Temp: 23, Color Mode: 21, Color: 24, Scene: 25.
It also supports way more devices :)
Hopefully they do add it in the future and its a simple process.
Thanks so much. Great video.
In my case I had to open a ticket to the Tuya guys to switch my newly made account from Chinese Mainland to Greece.
Took 48h but it did the trick and I could eventually follow your guide.
All good and everything worked! 😃
Thanks for sharing 😁
Your comment saved me plenty of nasty words which I was going to spit on Tuya when I saw that cyber security request.
PS. I din't choose United States during sing up... I bet you did the same mistake.
The portal changed a lot from your video, but I managed to stumble through and fetch the local key through trial and error. Thanks for the guide man 👍
You asked a few weeks ago if you could improve your videos in any way. This video shows that you’ve learned a lot from the feedback and improved significantly. Congratulations 👏👏👏
Thanks for this, I’ll give it a go and try following your instructions.
Really thorough explanation unlike another I tried to follow unsuccessfully. I had numerous problems with the registration. Keep them coming.
Thanks David. Glad to have helped. Plenty more to come :)
Thanks for a great video. I was unable to use Tuya convert on most of my switches, this gives a good alternative. I'll try it soon.
Thanks, Mark. Apparently, something in the Tuya integration or server changed such that toggling a switch was no longer working. But, it works fine through Local Tuya. I would not have have had a clue how to set that up without your video.
I think they fixed it and then broke it again haha. Glad to have helped :)
Thanks for another great video. Now got Local Tuya working on my HA on Windows 10 with a smart plug, but I have lots of other Tuya devices and I don't understand two things.
1. How to set up multicolour/white bulbs?
2. How to set up wall sockets (mine have two sockets and a USB socket so there are in fact 4 options on the socket)
Many thanks in advance.
(Link in description)
Cheers.
I initially had issues getting a light to work. (I actually ended up randomly guessing the settings and it worked!) I was able to confirm my settings by visiting the Github link and looking at the configuration.yaml example. (I did not add it to my yaml.)
Using the yaml for reference, I set - Brightness:22, Color Temp: 23, Color Mode: 21, Color: 24, Scene:25.
I tried this and was successful . Some menus or the locations of the menus had change on the tuya website but with a little digging I found them
Awesome, that is a great help.
Enter the ID, and away you go.
excellent video, describing step by step with all the required details! well done! I hope you keep up the great work :)
Thank you! Plenty more to come :)
Mark, I am fairly new to Home Assistant and have been using your videos as a reference. This is yet another good video. Thanks for taking the time and effort to educate me on my venture into Home Assistant.
Welcome aboard! Glad you have found the content helpful
Account on Tuya opened on 09/05/2021. Today is 18/05/2021 and method works!
Thanks for sharing. I think since I created the video, the feature has been removed and added a couple of times 😂. It should be working and I did create an alternate method which is a lot simpler for anyone that is struggling.
Thanks for sharing Dmitry.
Whew. Looks like a lot of work. Great video. Will try the local integration soon.
Hey Bill. I have another local Tuya video dropping tomorrow.
Originally I said the dev tools method was easier, but as Tuya keep changing there API and access it's a little unreliable. Tomorrows video requires a few steps, but it will give you all the keys in one go.
Came back for adding new devices, still an awesome video.
Thanks !
Brilliant channel, thanks for helping me setting up local tuya and other stuff on HA
Hey Glen. Glad the tutorials helped you out :)
The DP documentation is pretty loose.
@@gverran doing it this way I have managed to get an unsupported robot vacuum into Home Assistant with Local Tuya :)

Thank you for the explaination. Very easy to follow and informative. I have a quession to ask. I have just added Tuya plug to my local Tuya but wondering how to get power consumptions in Home Assistant. Thanks
Thanks for helping us take our devices out of the butt.
Thanks for this howto video. Been trying to do this over the weekend after seeing it on another channel but failed at every hurdle. Now seeing this I can see where I was going wrong. I'm gonna give it a another crack in the week now and see what mess I can make - lol.

I have covered another method for accessing Local Tuya if your still stuck with this one. Tuya are also working on local control as part of the official Tuya v2 integration
@@MarkWattTech Yes i did hear they are now working on a local version. How local remains to be seen but keeping an open mind.

Cheers

Brilliant video! The Tuya site has changed slightly since you posted this video, but nothing major.
Hello Mark,
You explained very well how to integrate devices into HomeAssistant.
@@MarkWattTech cool thanks :) that was quick
Many thanks
Nice Job Mark ! 1000 Thumbs up
like the video, question I have two wifi networks and what I am seeing is if the device is configured in SmartLife app under SSID 1 and my home assistant is on SSID 2 it does not see the device when you go to configure it.
Heya :)
Did you manage to resolve this? You can have both installed but they can cause each other to go out of sync.
Hi Mark, can you offer an update on how well Local Tuya is working currently, and if you have updated to version 5.0 with the latest HA update?
Its broken for new setups unless you found a work around

What is the difference in using local Tuya, or just pair Tuya zigbee switches directly through MQTT and Home Assistant?
Just amazing! Thank you very much!
Thanks a lot very very usefull
Keep on doing that kind of video
Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks for great video, what would a geyser switch be, will I add it as a switch even if it has power monitoring ? Thanks
You should be able to add both entities separately. On the Local Tuya Git they are working on adding some new sensors for power monitoring etc.
Great video mate. I just bought a tuya wired zigbee gateway hub but the devices I have all Tuya WiFi based. Can I connect them to the hub?
Does this work double? I mean can you also still control the devices via smartlife, so over the cloud?
Sure does :)
Hi, first of all.
Thanks for this instructive video 🙏
I have some question.
Thanks in advance for help from all 👍
Hey :)
I don't think the tuya integration works with video/camera at the moment (I could be wrong).
I like the idea of switching to tuya local, i currently have 20 devices, but how would I add new switches down the the road?
I don’t think I made it clear enough in the video. But to add mew devices you just click to add the Local Tuya integration again (each device has to be manually added (Maybe this will be improved in the future).
@@MarkWattTech I'm assuming the only way to get the local key (now or later) is to add to the cloud first and then add to the local TUYA?
@@MartinRourke there are a few way but they all require an initial cloud connection.
My ideia was to get some of my tuya devices and extract firmware and than flash in the sonoff devices)
I just not found easy way to doing it and also maybe some devices firmware not go to be compatible I pressume?
would be possible put tuya app on the Smart Scene Wall Switch Sonoff NSPanel ?
thank you
Hello , nice video.
@@MarkWattTech Thanx a lot ! Keep up the good work !
Thanks for the video Mark. A followed all and it worked until 15:13 - Setup Local Tuya using obtained local keys. I installed local tuya through hacs and restart but cant find the integration in the normal integrations section. I cant find this problem in your troubleshoot video. Do you have any idea?
Hey Olle. If you cant see it, it sounds like a browser cache issue. Try clear your browser cache and see it it appears. Cheers.
@@MarkWattTech thanks for your fast reply. Finally it was a pending update 😅
Great tutorial.. only ONE entity i got (On/Off)......how to get others entities(brightness,color,..) i have tested with a smart ceiling LIGHT ;.
@@MarkWattTech awsome.. lets see how it goes in V2..subscribed!!👍
@@MarkWattTech Fantastic... Thanks.
Heya :)
I’m not to sure for that particular app sorry.
Thanks.
Clouds -> Projects is now Cloud -> Development, at least on mine here.
Hi Mark
I set up the IOT account following the steps for the home assistant tuya cloud integration then added Local tuya.
I've got a 3rd party device that uses Tuya as its back end (Kids colour changing clock) When added to the tuya integration It has no entities.
Do you know if there is any way to find out the entities to add it to the local tuya integration?
I have a Tuya RM Mini IR remote, I can’t find an entity type for it. Is it compatible?
Btw, amazing tutorial, everything setup in one go.
Thank you :D
I don't have any tuya IR devices to test with.
See log for details.")
Anybody had the same issue and knows how to fix it?
Hello Mark, thank you for your video.
Do you think is possible tu use local tuya together with the new integration Tuya v2?
Hey, Thanks a lot for the video,
I have a question about the API,
In local Tuya' can I make REST API calls?
(to local machine)

What can I do?
soooo nice !!! after the integrtation in Local Tuya, extracted all the key, can we delete le tuya cloud account .?
hi mark, just found this. im totally new with ha and all my stuff is tuya. unfortuately im at thelast bit but itsays "Connection to device succeeded but no datapoints found, please try again.
@AndyS where did you find the info?
While we do control the tuya device locally, the tuya device is theoratically still connected to the internet right, and using the smart life/tuya app would allow us to turn on the device outside of our local network. Any way to make a tuya device completely local?
