Hey Guys! Here’s an updated version of this video if you are following along in 2022! - I am rebooting this series and will have a few videos on each of the topics. ruclips.net/video/UsnhL2z_UUY/видео.html
Thanks for this dude! Now I can reliably do TTS notifications without relying on that questionable implementation that required me to reauthenticate my Amazon account every three days. THANK GOD! I also managed to get this working in Node-Red based on the information here; was just a matter of putting the blocks together. Once I saw how you did it in developer and call service, I knew what time it was lol. Thanks again! Going to look at your Actionable Notification video next to get her to ask for starting Flash Briefings.
Thanks to your concise way of teaching, I was able to do what I almost gave up on because people would say it cannot be done. I can now trigger my robot vacuum via home assistant, which is connected by a third party alexa skill to the amazon echo device. I connected my HA to my Alexa dev account and setup an alexa routine to turn on the vacuum. That routine is then triggered via a homeassistant script or automation just as you showed, with only a couple seconds delay. Perfect!! The mini player doesn't work for me yet, but I only use the wonderful HA spotify integration anyway to have additional context and control over what and where spotify is playing.
Thanks João. Really appreciate that! I will be doing a video showing how to do this, and another showing the extra features I talked about in this video. Cheers.
Hi mark, this is really the most helpful Tutorial concerning HA-TTS-Alexa that I could find. I have spent a lot of time to get my Alexa-notifications running, this vid helped me a lot for beeing finally successful. Subscribed!
Great video, I was looking for something like this for 4 hours, explanation was clear and even the suggestions to watch the other videos to follow up saved me some more headaches, thanks!
Using your tutorial, I was able to setup notifications around the house on event triggers. Ex: Person Detected on the Driveway I built out scripts, one for each echo. Then I built group scripts, that call the device specific scripts. The scripts take in a message parameter. They also contain device specific mute conditions. For example, if I'm on a work call, the office device script knows not to play the notification in my office. Hopefully that all makes sense. Anyway, thanks! I was only able to built it out because of your tutorial.
Switching from Vera over to Home Assistant isn't an easy task. I just want to thank you for this video. You went about it at a perfect pace and explained everything clearly, best video I've seen yet on Home Assistant. Thank you, I just became a subscriber.
Thank you for the awesome tutorial, one of the best ones yet! I got all the way to the mini media player yaml and my TTS prompt isn’t showing up in the preview. Is there a prerequisite for the TTS prompt to show?
I've spent multiple days trying to get TTS to work and I just came across this video. Why I didn't find this before I'll never know but it covers everything I wanted plus more. I have now subscribed and going to make my way thru your other HA videos.
Amazing video...very useful. Very clear explenation and now i can’t wait for the next video on script, scene and playing media and music. Mini media player is awesome!!

Thank you so much! I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't see my echo's sensors. You answered my question right off - I didn't have 2 factor authentication turned on in my Amazon account. I really love the idea of using the mini media player to send messages but the line to enter text never shows up in my player. Might anyone be able to tell me what I need to add?
You are the best of them all pal! Your instructions are very clear. You seem relaxed and there is no very silly jokes. Thank you for your hard work. You have helped me so many times now. I will try to help you get more popular by sending links to your videos to my friends. Great work.

Great video! I just started using alexa for TTS in my automations a couple days ago and wish I would have found this video sooner :P The one additional thing I've done is target all of my alexas with the alexa notifications -- since I could be in any room. I originally set these up to go to my Google devices but strangely those seem far less reliable to start speaking.
super helpful, thank you very much! Nicely explained and I really like the speed. Don't wasting any time, getting right to the point. Amazing tutorial.
Hello! Thanks for this dude! I have problem. Failed to activate media player, two-step verification successful, getting confirmation for integration, but the player is no more than in the list of devices and is not among the objects. I don’t get that picture already as in your clip at 4:15 min.
Thank you for this amazing video/tutorial ! Really helped me ...I confess that I was struggling to make my Avexas talk via HA :-) ahggg that type: tts part ....Thank you ! Yes I really would like to see that video that you promised with more automations and echos :-) Greetings from Portugal !

Thanks! I've got this working fine when I switch the echo to English. Once I revert it back to my mother tongue Dutch, nothing is said by Alexa / echo. I guess the TTS isn't ready for other languages, maybe switching to a different TTS service might help?
Congratulations for the video! I´m from Brazil, I followed all your Alexa steps and it worked very well! Thanks! Do you know if have any integrations to ir remote controller - of tuya? If have, could you teach in a video too?
Hi! any idea to use in more than 1 speaker at the same time? Im not able to use in more than one.. looks like when 1 speaker is waiting for the response.. There other are not connected. Thanks!
Thanks for the guide. Any idea if it is possible to create a button on a Home Assistant dashboard to play a radio station? For example would normally say "Alexa play BBC Radio 6 music", but replace this with a dashboard button? Ideally would like to have 1 button t start playing radio and one button to stop playing. Thanks!
Thank you Lewis! for the information, Great video! well done i have some media issues and CCTV that i don't know they don't work for me is it possible to get you to have look at for me please much appreciated
What a wonderful video. I wish I had had access to it longer ago. I did all the steps and my Echos were available on devices but I can't use them because they appear unavailable. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
Hi mark. Installed Hacs, all went well. When I open "Add respositories", it shows me a long list of them, but "Alexa media Player" doesn't show up. Any idea why? Thanks in advanced.
Thanks for the feedback :) I would say yes :) Sometimes there is a small delay, and others it appears to be instant. It’s never been long enough for me to question or worry about it.
Hey, is there a way to make music assistant play music through Alexa Echo speaker when turned on? When I try to do this, it says that music cannot be played through TTS.
AMP installed and configured successfully. Spotify installed and configured successfully. My Alexa Sonos One happily plays music/does TTS. All of my Amazon related Alexa devices (echos/shows/dots etc) appear correctly in the AMP, and can have their basic controls altered by HA (volume, on/off, pause/play) but none can play any form of media: 'Media player does not support browsing media' is the error message when I try. I'll straight up PayPal you £50 if you can fix it Mark!
Thank you a lot for that setup. I made itr how discribed and it worked. I only had to add under Settings - Dashboard-Ressources the JavaScript-Modul /local/mini-media-player-bundle.js?v=1.16.5. My question now is, how is it possible to stream mp3 or other media i have stored on home assistant. For example I want to wake up with a special song (mp3), how can I do that? The automation part is clear, but I don't know what to write as media content type / id
Another great video Mark, so much detail packed into each video you put out 😎😎 I now have a mini switch set in an automation to turn on the office with Alexa playing my fav radio station from Tunein. Is it possible to toggle the alexa media player do you know? So, first single press turns everything on, another single press turns everything off? I can use the toggle for the light and the plug but don't know if this can be implemented on the alexa media player? Thanks again, Mac
Hey Mac! Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it 😁. Glad you find the content useful. You can pause and stop music yes :) theres an example in the documentation. You will need to use either pause or stop in the media player call in your script or automation. Cheers 😎
Great video, but im getting an error after I verify the account and loading back to the next step. im trying to figure out how to clean the cookies hopefully that works.. I'm new to HASS
@@kingkuntaSWM no worries 👌🏻. I don’t think you can change any of Amazons functionality. But if you are heading to the echo to press buttons anyway, you could use a wireless scene remote? Or buttons? :)
@@MarkWattTech I saw a random picture of a flush wall mounted echo Dot and thought, "that would be a really looking light switch." Lol just wondering. They are cheaper than actual smart switches and they do 10x more.
Hi, Thanks for this Mark. Having a bit of an issue after I've done the whole login with the 2 factor auth. The media player is showing on HA, however It didn't pick up any of my other echos like it did with yours strangely. I have normal echos, echos with screens and the Alexa's that you can plug straight into the wall. Any ideas why they aren't showing? I'm struggling to connect Alexa to the HA. Cheers
Hi..i hope you could help me with this question..i managed to let alexa show me a live feed from my eufy doorbell camera on my echo show 8..my question is can Alexa pull a picture of the live feed instead of the feed it self? I only want a picture not a video (im doing this with the Alexa app on my iphone not with the assistant )
Great video but anyone know why I get a server 500 error when submitting the form to setup the Alexa integration.? 2FA enabled on Amazon acct but it errors every time. Any help greatly appreciated
For anyone getting server 500 errors when trying to login this is probably because of a bug in Alexa Media Player (bug #1440) fixed in a later version (v3.10.13 or 14 I think) but this version requires the 2021.12 version of HA. So you need to first update HA, then Alexa Media Player. Also clearing my browser cache fixed the custom element not found error for me.
Is there a way to link the shopping lists between home assistant and the Alexa app so you can use Alexa to add stuff to the shopping list on home assistant
Great video! I'm trying to use Alexa more through HA but stumbles a bit. When my home is empty I want all wake up alarms in Alexa to be stopped before they go off in a empty house. I cna't find a command to send and how to send it. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thank you for the article - Is there a way to integrate without the risk of disclosing all your Amazon Credentials? I definitely would like to get this working,
Unfortunately to get the TTS and media player Access you need to use your credentials. You can use the App Auth method so that you don’t need to submit 2FA codes and they will generate themselves. But you still initially need to login with your credentials.
Thanks for the really helpful video. One thing: some of my Echos are not showing the 'Local Speaker' and won't accept tts. My Echo Dots and Echo Plus are fine, but my Echo Show and Fire Tablet are not. Thanks for any help.
@@MarkWattTech Thanks for the reply. No. Those 2 devices don't wotk using the Dev tools or the mini media player card. The Echo Show is working in an automation, but that is calling the notify service.
Thank you, good tutorial. I am used to the voice command example -"alexa play fuji radio". Is there a way to put that in the yaml ?...so i can have it in the automation sequence?
Thank you :) do you mean to have the echo run the routine “play fuji radio” ? :) If so then yes. You can have the echo call a service, or if you have a routine in your alexa app you can just get HA to call that.
@@MarkWattTech i have tried the routine, in the alexa app and that pused the radio play at the end of other action. example if i want to turn on the radio and then turn on a fan...it pushed the radio acion after the device automation. SO i am tryign to find a way to automate the sequence in HASS automation...but no idea how to trigger the voice command to play a radio station.
You can get Alexa to do that by just enabling amazon in the HA cloud section. This integration allows you to control various aspects of the echos media player and more.
Is it possible to substitute a helper value into the message of the notify? I would like the message to include a numeric value from a helper. e,g. "The temperature is now set to " input_number.temperature_setting.
Hey Pablo. I have started working on it! I have an Alexa video dropping tomorrow, and the Alexa one after tomorrows will be on actionable Notifications (maybe next week)
@@MarkWattTech thanks a lot. Another question. When you say to expose the script to alexa, you do the nabu casa integration, right? the other method would be the custom skill to integrate HA to Alexa, I imagine? thanks again.
@@blopak2 I do yeah. So you can expose a script via nabu casa. Alexa see the scripts as a scene. You can then ask alexa to run that scene, which in turn launches the script in HA. The other way to do it would be to create a custom skill yes. The actionable notification will use a simple custom skill.
Mark just a quick one Your Kitchen Group is that done in Home assistant , how did you create a group please , I have 4 Alexa Echo`s was hoping to group them so I can send TTS to all t one please
Thanks for the video. I have one quesiton. Is it possible to reproduce mp3 located in local media or dlna server of home assistant through alexa echo? In other words, i want to be able to choose what alexa echo is going to play the local music in home assistant that i am listening in my pc for instance.
I did a video on how to play custom MP3s. But if its a set track etc I would reccomend checking out something like MyPod or other bits of software. This will allow you to host files on your PC and have Alexa play them. You can then use HA to trigger the track etc via a script or automation. Theres currently not a super clean way to do it :S (That im aware of anyway)
Great video. Do you have anymore content related to using Alexa to control a scene? I see my scenes available, but only the automations. I do not see the scripts within Alexa when creating a routine. I believe a lot of folks would find more Alexa related content beneficial. Cheers!
I have a few new Alexa Tutorials planned :) I’ve just moved house so will be setting up a new Smart Home and rebooting some of these older tutorials :)
Thanks for excellent video. However I do have a question. How do you play mp3 on multiple echo? I have already created a group everywhere in Alexa app. media_player.everywhere does not work
Hello, how do you adjust a set volume on the echo device when you using the call service/codes? You example only show send the text to speech. How do you turn up the set volume also because some of my echo setting volume is too low to hear?
Heya. You will find a bunch of different examples in the documentation at : github.com/custom-components/alexa_media_player/wiki#setting-the-volume-for-the-last-called-device-at-a-certain-level
I did exactly as the video said but when I go to use the mini media player it reports that all of the devices are "unavailable". Tried restarting HA, same. Tried deleting and reading, same. Any ideas on what I am going wrong?
You can use a skill called My Pod which allows Alexa to access your music. you can then use HA to trigger Alexa to call the service and your music. I have previously used it and it works but it is a bit of a setup. There’s not a simple way really to access your own music with Alexa and HA (as far as i know). You would need to store your music in a place accessible by my pod or use the my pod host. You can use HA to tell Alexa to trigger a set song or playlist using music services too.
The mini media card didn't work for me, kept getting an obscure error message so gave up. A seemingly simple idea seems to be taking FOREVER to implement. I want Alexa to tell me if my phone battery is getting below a certain %. I've tried using some butchered attempt from this video but it just doesn't seem to be working. Back to the drawing board.
This is great! Do you know if it's possible to have the tts function work with Alexa on the phone? Trying to set up a fun automation for when my Tesla leaves my house and if my phone is automatically connected to bluetooth , a custom voice message can be heard from my car speakers
I don’t think you can target the alexa app with iOS (not sure about android). Some devices that run tvs work though (other speakers, tvs etc). Another option would be to use custom Sound Notifications. This would let you play pre written phrases (works on iOS) I recently did a video on this.
@@K3yBon It doesn’t work on the Echo Auto :( At least not yet anyway. The echo auto can still be useful though. Using it to run automations when your outside in the car, or approaching home etc.
Very interesting video! Good Jobs Can we on the other hand during TTS message Adjust volume I tested with: type: tts volume_level: 0.7 does not work :(
Hi, Is it possible to have interaction with Alexa using Home assistant , for example , trigger via home assistant if temprature in my room is >25 degree then Alexa will ask via echo saying temp is high in your room , so you want to start the fan ? Si here if I say yes it should trigger to start a devise if I say no it exit.
Mark I have one doubt that I already search in your Facebook and here but could not figure out an answer.... How can I set the sound to a certain volume on a. certain sound or text / message ?
Its not working. :( I installed Alexa Media Player, setting up 2SV, which was successfull, i see that the App is enrolled in amazon. After this step the app is opening locally to login to amazon (like in your video about 3:55), typed in the keys succssfully (login and pass is ok) but when i hit Sign-in, after a few seconds it throws me an "500 Internal Server Error". Tried in Edge, Chrome, Opera, same results. Possible that the app does not work anymore with Amazon?
Hi Mark, great vid for a HA newbie like me. Worked fine, Alexa has been integrated and Mini Media player has been installed. But with the card, I can only send TTS to my Alexas. The Mini Media Player card does not show any music or Album covers etc that is played on any of my Alexas. In your vid, this was not quite clear how to get this done. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Heya :) If you open the card in the editor you should see an option for 'artwork', In my setup I have this set as full-cover which presents your album art.
Another great video Mark... I have this setup running, but is it possible to set the volume of the echo before it does the TTS? Sometimes we might have the echo up at max (10) to play music and then we stop the music, but only want the announcement to at volume 5. I tried adding something like "volume_level: 5" but nothing changes.
Thanks again Lyron. You can set the volume yeah :) I dont remember the syntax of the top of my head but it will be in the documentation. Alternatively check out my facebook group as Im sure this was a question the other week and the answer will be on the post :)
Heya. Groups are still fiddly but there is an example of groups in the Alexa documentation. If you aren't borthed about them being in sync you could also just sent a notification to each speaker individually. I will be covering groups in a future video. I recently just rebooted this series.
@@MarkWattTech Hi, thank you for your reply! In the past I tried using Alexa native groups, but simply doesn't works at all. Yes sending a notification to each echo causes... echo :-)
I keep getting a 500 internal server error on this. I've rolled it back to older versions and continue to get the same error. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I have create an automation in home assistant. When I create routine on the Alexa App, I am not able to see the home assistant automation but I can only see the home assistant scripts? Why and how do I expose the automation to the Alexa routine?
Alexa routines can only see HA scripts (which appear as scenes). You would need to either call your HA automation in a HA script and expose that, or re write your automation as a script.

Sometimes there is a small delay, and others it appears to be instant. It’s never been long enough for me to question or worry about it.
Thanks for the helpful Video! Wow, you own an La marzocco :-) Nice!!
Another great video Mark, so much detail packed into each video you put out 😎😎
I now have a mini switch set in an automation to turn on the office with Alexa playing my fav radio station from Tunein.
Is it possible to toggle the alexa media player do you know? So, first single press turns everything on, another single press turns everything off?
I can use the toggle for the light and the plug but don't know if this can be implemented on the alexa media player?
Thanks again,
Mac
Hey Mac! Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it 😁. Glad you find the content useful.
You can pause and stop music yes :) theres an example in the documentation. You will need to use either pause or stop in the media player call in your script or automation.
Cheers 😎
Great job! Thank You! It helped me a lot! Greetings from Brazil! Araçatuba/SP
hey, thx for this Video. I have a Question. Can i Search on the Media Player Card for Music?
Great video, but im getting an error after I verify the account and loading back to the next step. im trying to figure out how to clean the cookies hopefully that works.. I'm new to HASS
I got it working 🎉🎉
Can you change the function of the buttons on the actual echo dot via home assistant?
As in what happens when you use the top buttons?
@@MarkWattTech As in using the volume up button to switch on/off smart light. Thanks for your response btw.
I don’t think there currently is a super simple easy way. Not one that i’ve seen anyway. But it’s something I would also love!
I struggled with this integration for almost a week and this video help me resolve the issue, thanks!
Hey Marc. Is TTS working for those devices if you manually target them with Dev tools ?
@@MarkWattTech Thanks for the reply. No. Those 2 devices don't wotk using the Dev tools or the mini media player card. The Echo Show is working in an automation, but that is calling the notify service.
@@MarkWattTech Yes, using the notification service.
Liked you're videos all the times:D Can u please make a video with "Alexa Acctionable Notification" ? Thx
I will be doing the actionable notifications soon 😁👍🏻
For some reasons am unable to get the tts to works, more to that my echo dot always shows either unavailable or on standby
Thank you, good tutorial. I am used to the voice command example -"alexa play fuji radio". Is there a way to put that in the yaml ?...so i can have it in the automation sequence?
Thank you :) do you mean to have the echo run the routine “play fuji radio” ? :)
If so then yes.
Can I use alexa media player to show unifi camera motion detected?
Mark, with this integration, if you speak to Alexa, saying to turn on a bulb that you have on HA, it will turn it on ?
You can get Alexa to do that by just enabling amazon in the HA cloud section. This integration allows you to control various aspects of the echos media player and more.
Is it possible to substitute a helper value into the message of the notify? I would like the message to include a numeric value from a helper. e,g. "The temperature is now set to " input_number.temperature_setting.
You can yes :)
Nice video, waiting for the next one!
Thanks Jose! :D
Hi Mark. Thanks for the video. Please do the Alexa Actionable Notifications!. Regards from chile
Great Tutorial! Thanks
Thanks Dennis :)
Great video. Do you have anymore content related to using Alexa to control a scene? I see my scenes available, but only the automations. I do not see the scripts within Alexa when creating a routine. I believe a lot of folks would find more Alexa related content beneficial. Cheers!
I have a few new Alexa Tutorials planned :)
I’ve just moved house so will be setting up a new Smart Home and rebooting some of these older tutorials :)
Working on the TTS. It works for all the Ecos, but not for the everywhere one. Is this right?
This specific TTS is echo devices only (if thats what you mean). Also fire tablets and tvs work too
Thanks for excellent video.
Hi Mark, I can't see any Alexa integration in Configuration (2:34 min vid). Can you help me please. Thanks
Hey Sebastion. Try and clear your browser cache if its not appearing in the list.
I did exactly as the video said but when I go to use the mini media player it reports that all of the devices are "unavailable". Tried restarting HA, same. Tried deleting and reading, same. Any ideas on what I am going wrong?
Hey Paul.
Did you have any luck with this?
Try clearing your browser cache and check your logs for any errors.
apparently the mini tts has been removed, and you have to use the mediaplayer.
how are we to redirect to the alexa's
Another great video , Thank you so much
You can use a skill called My Pod which allows Alexa to access your music. you can then use HA to trigger Alexa to call the service and your music.
@@MarkWattTech do you know if it works on android? i'm actually watching your push notification sounds now haha
@@MarkWattTech What about using the Echo Auto? There's a sale on Prime Day and I'm debating on grabbing it
@@K3yBon It doesn’t work on the Echo Auto :(
At least not yet anyway. The echo auto can still be useful though. Using it to run automations when your outside in the car, or approaching home etc.
Very interesting video! Good Jobs
Can we on the other hand during TTS message
Adjust volume
I tested with:
type: tts
volume_level: 0.7
does not work :(
Hi,
Is it possible to have interaction with Alexa using Home assistant , for example , trigger via home assistant if temprature in my room is >25 degree then Alexa will ask via echo saying temp is high in your room , so you want to start the fan ? Si here if I say yes it should trigger to start a devise if I say no it exit.
I did a tutorial on this. The thing you are after is called "Actionable Notifications".
I will be creating a new tutorial on this in the future.
Is there a way to announce current time?
You could get the current time and use it in a template and have that read out. You can probably find a quick snippet on the HA forum :)
Mark I have one doubt that I already search in your Facebook and here but could not figure out an answer.... How can I set the sound to a certain volume on a. certain sound or text / message ?
Hi. I have bought another speaker. How do i add it?
Heya :)
If you open the card in the editor you should see an option for 'artwork', In my setup I have this set as full-cover which presents your album art.
@@MarkWattTech I am having the same doubt...and searched in your Facebook but could not find...can you help ?
Hi, how can I do to send a notification to a pair of alexa speakers? Thank you
Yes sending a notification to each echo causes... echo :-)
How quickly does Alexa answer or execute scripts? Getting sick of Google assistant compared to local HomeKit. It takes like 5 seconds to respond
I keep getting a 500 internal server error on this. I've rolled it back to older versions and continue to get the same error. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Hi, can I use my android phone as Eco Dot? I have tried but I can not use text to speech... nothing heard
Great video, many thanks!!
Thank you 😁
