    You're the FIRST person on youtube that I have seen do GQ gutter rust PROPERLY. Even re-installing the actual gutter as per factory spec.

      @@TwistedMetalCustoms I used to own a VERY well setup GQ wagon. But I was forced to sell it because of gutter rust, wasnt even as bad as the one in your video.
      If I had of seen this video a year ago I would have had the confidence to do it myself honestly.

    Just did the plenum and windscreen channel on the wifes 67 impala. Was rusted right through all 3 layers . Seems like just a little bit of water from a leaky windscreen would destroy the whole thing. I flooded it with por 15 and sealed it with seam sealer. Can understand exactly your methods. Great job and the owner must be happy with your work.

      Hey Peter, thanks for the comment mate! Yeah wow nice work, it's a full on job as you know! I don't think it takes much for it to rust, especially if you have condensation on the inside roof, it just runs back down to the rail and rusts from the inside too, thank you sir, I'm glad you can see the method in my madness 😄

    GOOD JOB. to be definitively efficient against rust , you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and pour old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

    Great video. Would you please comment: it was not clear from watching, you are essentially making a bunch of lap joints. What kind of metal prep did you do prior to welding e.g. rust converter, zinc weld through primer, other? Thank you!

    • @TwistedMetalCustoms
      @TwistedMetalCustoms  3 месяца назад

      Hey mate, yes the lap joins are basically just a replication of what was from factory. I do cover metal prep in this and the next video, but basically clean, sand with 400g, I used epoxy primer, and up to you but you can use a brush on seam sealer , then paint over that. When you weld through the spot holes, clean in the hole to have good surface to weld, the spot weld will burn back a bit if the coatings but it's still protected like a gasket on the rest of the panels, cheers mate 👍

    Gday mate I was wondering 💭 he got a swb as well and it comes with a spare roof, could I just cut sections out of the doner roof and te weld them back onto the current one?

    • @TwistedMetalCustoms
      @TwistedMetalCustoms  Год назад +1

      Hi mate, yeah you sure can! As long as it's the same profile. The hard part is if you are not removing the body sections, it's spot welded on the 3 layers to the body.. I think easiest way is cut the section from the donor and flip over and drill out the spot welds, seperate the 3 sections from the donor by drilling all spot welds, then remove the parts from the patrol, then re assemble piece by piece welding as you go like I did..
      If that makes sense haha..
      Just be patient as you stitch weld the outside panel or you will get warpage

    • @TwistedMetalCustoms
      @TwistedMetalCustoms  14 дней назад +1

      Hi MrFall! thanks for the comment, total cost of materials wasn't much at all.. i think about 200 dollars in metal, to get the folds done by a fab workshop was about $200, but the real cost is time.. if you are semi confident in your knowledge on rust repairs then i say go for it! its a good learning curve, otherwise to get someone to repair it, it will cost thousands mate

    Would you be able to do this but not keep the gutters?

    • @TwistedMetalCustoms
      @TwistedMetalCustoms  Год назад

      yeah you sure can mate, is called shaved gutters. but doing this will mean your door rubbers will see a lot more water, and if they leak you will have water ingress, so if you do this be aware of that 👌
