I like to think back to that redshirt O'Brien working the con on the battle bridge of the first episode of TNG and wonder if he's thinking "It won't get any worst than this".
Fun fact: This was the only episode in which we see the station explode, and it looks spectacular doing so. The effects artists knew that this shot was going to be a rare opportunity, so they went the extra mile making a convincing dummy model of the station (there was no way that they would ever blow up the principle shooting model, even if most shots were stock footage by the third season), stuffed it as full of explosives as they could, surrounded it with cameras, lit the fuse, and ran like hell. They put in a lot more effort than one would expect for a shot that brief, and it certainly showed, because it looks amazing.
@@Redrally does be not get promoted to Senior Chief with his reassignment to Starfleet Academy at the end of the series? Wonder how long until he makes Master Chief.
@@Redrally Miles used to be an officer, there were no enlisted on the Enterprise D until later retcon. Janeway made Torres, an academy dropout, a lieutenant. Circumstances? Yes, but after Starfleet's Dominion war losses, would a commission be so odd?
@@scockery Funnily enough, I just watched another DS9 episode where O'Brien proclaimed he doesn't want the privileges and responsibilities of being an officer. While he had rank pips in early TNG episodes most people regard that as being explained he had a field commission in the Cardassian border wars. So I can believe he could have been (re) offered a commission, that he would then turn down.
@@scockery TNG originally didn't have enlisted officers because Reddenbarry decided that would be undemocratic and everyone should be more equal. However, I think that even in a military organized around anarchist principles, you'd have to have enlisted officers.
DS9's response to Babylon 5...I see your security chief's hair showing where in the show's timeline AND raise you leader of the space station with his hair AND facial hair...
Blatant nonsensical time travel shenanigans being good? Must be the Relativity Factor at work. Sometimes all a good episode needs is to just be absolutely bonkers and proud of it!
best thing I have found is that dartboards that are made with Bristle tech can be electronic and use steel tips. the problem is none of the ones I found up light up instead the electronics is about scoring with led displays
What's better than having Chief O'Brien trying to figure out what the hell is going on - "I hate temporal mechanics"? Having 2 Chief O'Briens trying to figure out what the hell is going on - "I hate temporal mechanics"? Can't stand DS9 but this episode was excellent!
Wait, smart writing on my Star Trek Deep Space 9?! Im shocked! Wait, thats actually par of the course for DS9. Also, I was wondering why you havent used Rimmer in a bar fight clip when talking about the bar fight scene, I understand now. Too much RD would feel too cheap :D.
Why does the Federation wait to do anything about the Wormhole until the Dominion has shipped about 5 fleets through it...as if they were never going to do that why wait THEN do something about it. Why not mine the wormhole right now, as the Dominion has zero cause to be on this side of the wormhole. Instead they keep the Dominion out AFTER the start out Federationing the Federation.
I genuinely couldn't/can't stand DS9 so trust me when I say both Visionary / Trials and Tribble-ations are 2 examples of first-class science-fiction story-telling at its best - nice one!
There's one thing about this episode that bothers me. If the Future Miles O'Brian was able to change the future by exposing the Romulans plot, shouldn't he have ceased to exist after that?

The greatest person in Starfleet history doesn’t deserve all the crap that happens to him dangnabit.
His own fault for marrying Keiko. Her nicest moments were being possessed by a Pagh Wraith.
I agree. Mudd does deserve better.
you just know they will have a O'Brian cameo in lower decks at some point after that reveal
He broke time to save the wormhole and the 24th century's most important space station... maybe this episode is why he got the title...
To quote, "O'Brien must suffer."
One thing this episode taught me: Romulans make excellent lawyers.

When I saw it for the first time, it was a moment of O_O, NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
You mean the special effects guys weren't dumbasses like the Red Dwarf special effects guys who actually blew up their principle shooting model?
Just one of the reasons why Miles O'Brien is the most important character and all of federation history.
Amen. Lower Decks was 100% speaking truth. 😁
Miles O'Dyin'
Should alternate future O'Brien team up with alternate Voyager Harry Kim to suffer and get no promotions together?
O'Brien is a Chief Petty Officer, unless he gets commissioned as a ranked officer, he can't exactly go up (I'm not even sure he wants to)

"I hate temporal mechanics!"
Quark had one of most logical responses to seeing the temporal copy of O'Brien on the Promenade.
"This is officer shit"
Ds9 is so good.
It's the best!
It really is

So now we have a duplicate Riker, Kim and O'Brien running around! 😁
I like to think that the duplicate Riker hooked up with Ro Laren and they now have a bunch of kids and are living on Bajor. :-P
The universe really seems to have it in for poor old O' Brien. No luck for the Irishman !

It does tend to work best when it embraces the silliness

Because mining the entrance of the wormhole could be viewed as an act of war.
The time travel rules in this episode are just as bad as they are on "The Flash."
