    I really like the design of the maroon car especially. For once for the past two decades they actually made a regular 4 stud wide car that looks like a regular car. I also love the inclusion of an alternate build. It's a throwback to older Lego sets that used to incentivize building more than just one config.
    What a shame with the pricetag though.

      I keep hearing from families that Lego has gone from a common purchase to a once in a while/couple times a year purchase due to price. Combined with the seemingly quick retirement cycle, it's frustrating for parents. Some find it cheaper to buy bulk classic Legos from eBay or use their old collections.

    It's a decent set, but, the fact this is $90 baffles me. This seems like a $50-$60 set at best. Maybe $70. We have other sets from City still available at that price, that are decent for what they are(like that new Bulldozer Break-In). So, why $90 for this?

  • @youtubasoarus

    • @maanman3573
      @maanman3573 6 лет назад +1

      youtubasoarus It was only cheaper because of inflation. At the time, even though it had different prices, it was worth pretty much the same as this one.

    Ahh this review was great. The primary build stirred up fond memories of the 'Gas N' Wash Express' set that I had in the 90s - it did have the bonus of being able to have the car wash AND the main fuelling station built at the same time but having three vehicles in this iteration is definitely a plus! It's a shame about the high price - I think my nostalgia (instead of my common-sense) would drive my wallet in this instance!

    It is a quality LEGO set, and LEGO has gotten to what fans want in City Theme:
    -People Pack
    -VIP Service
    -Gas Station…
    But this set is almost double what it should cost. When I saw the original price posted on Brickset compared to the Piece count, I hoped that they were wrong and that it would a Maximum $60, not $90. The 2008 Police Station was hardly even that expensive.

    • @Nemofishman
      @Nemofishman 8 лет назад

    i didn't even notice the price or price per part until you mentioned it at the end. What the hell are they thinking? It's a nice set, a good 2-in-1 build, but WOW! This should be closer to HALF what the MSRP is.

    • @Nemofishman
      @Nemofishman 8 лет назад +1

      +Raine Kaspar IMO, it's a 59.99 set based on the pieces.

    • @nameless7838
      @nameless7838 8 лет назад

      ***** Exactly! $50-60 is reasonable for it, i know having big pieces drives sets above the 10 cents per piece target (which is why most of the space sets are 13-14 cents per piece), but there really aren't any that i can see. i can't tell if the 2 roofs are segments or single pieces, but even if they're big pieces that's nowhere near enough to justify a $30-40 hike in price.

    • @Nemofishman
      @Nemofishman 8 лет назад +1

      Raine Kaspar It could be a 6x24, though a fairly recent set (2012's Forest Fire Helicopter had 2 of them for 59.99, and also has a similar piece count (522)).

  • @kilroyactual117

  • @maulerXX
    @maulerXX 7 лет назад +1

    The price of this is absolutely insane, especially since there are *no* new or especially large pieces. It's almost like they made a mistake or something.
    On top of that, they needlessly increased the piece count by adding things you absolutely don't need like the bicycle, the lego signs out front, the lame pizzaria, and even the street cleaner (kinda cool, but what does it have to do with a service station???).
    At it's core there is a pretty awesome ~400 piece, $39.99 service station here. I wish they had produced that set at that price point which would have made this enjoyable concept available to a much wider number of children and families.

    • @Nemofishman
      @Nemofishman 6 лет назад

      Which is funny, since the one is 2007 WAS 400 pieces (402 to be exact), and was $40, and even more apples to apples, was also a Summer release.

    Yeah, we noticed the price issue, but we were there on a Thursday night, so we got our TRU cardholder discount of 10%, plus I had $20 in Rewards Money for Toys R Us, so that is how we brought the price down to more where we felt it should have been. This is our first Service Station, so we are pretty happy with it. Agree with you re: the tall Octan sign, that it should have been fully finished on the back. Thank you for another great review.

    Really like the Octan colour scheme, it reminds me so much of the Castrol Toyota Racing liveries of the 90's. The petrol station always meant the start of an adventure when I was younger so its a must buy for me, except the price is insane, it doesn't seem like inflation is the reason and oil is incredibly cheap at the moment, I have always gelt the more expensive set are never that great on value compared to £17.99 to £40 sets. I've really wanted to get the Porsche Le Mans set too but its £70, yet the single cars cost £12.99 in the UK, meaning they are charging £44 for that pit garage wall and it seems to steep. Overall I think the service Station should have been around $60, $90 would have been ok with more interior for the shop and or a Petrol Tanker and an extra car or two, or maybe even a small Lego delivery van.Maybe in the world of the Lego minifigure they get the Pizzas balanced when they get the wheels balanced, can't really think of why you'd need to use a wrench on a pizza. Also wouldn't the minifig. scale Lego set technically be like a replica scale model to them lol.

    I really like the street sweeper and the service station; I can see both, with a little bit of modification, having homes in my layout. But, I was shocked by the price as well. I think 30-50% is spot on for how much it is overpriced. I have seen a couple of sets with prices that were a lot higher than expected, I am hoping this is not a continuing trend. Awesome, I love the 2 in 1 sets of lego, not so much creator, but just regular themes with that.

    If I'm not mistaken there was a similar set to this when I was kid that I had, or possibly I had a combination of smaller separate sets that pretty much made up the sum of the parts in this set combined. Either way I loved that as a kid, so many good parts.

    Was possibly going to get this set, then I saw the price. AW HELL NO.

    Looks like a brilliant set, definitely allows kids to use more imagination than just following the instructions. I think the yellow thing with the pizza on it is supposed to represent a 'self-service' checkout. Not sure if they have them in the US but they are very common now in Europe :)

    I was really looking forward to this set, ever since i saw it at toyfare, however now that I am seeing its pricetag, ouch, i cant justify that, for the part count i was expecting 60 dollars? 70 dollars tops. You are 100% correct though, that price per part is just way too high.

    Nice set. It combines old elements with new ones. The only thing I miss in 'set 1' is the carcleaner from 'set 2'. To release that, they had to leave out the cleaning car which doesn't totally fit to this set to my opinion. The repair-car also. I mean: There isn't a garage anyway so.. meaby they should have leave that one also out. Although, it is a nice upgrade of the previous bigger version of it (which also counts for the cleaningcar: Nice upgrade of an older set).
    And there is of course the price. $40 - $50 would be better to my opinion.

    Luckily I have the old street sweeper so I can build my own 2nd-build car wash without buying this set. I'd love the red car too but the car wash was the best part! Maybe the addition of a washing area in the main build would justify the price?

    I really like the sense of humor that jang have in this video when he introduce the 2nd build, and I agree about the price of the set I thought it would be like $50-$60 but $90 is to high

    What i like about these sets is you can add and build the pizza place or shop

  • @silas34

    If you could build both configurations at the same time, or at least some variation that doesn't have seemingly duplicate services, then the price seems reasonable, but there's no specialised pieces, or as you said, large pieces, to justify $90, maybe $50 at most, I don't know, I'm in the UK and I would've said £40 is a reasonable price, so whatever LEGO's equivalent of a £40 set is.
    It surprises me too considering how cheap LEGO can make some of their much larger, and frankly more impressive, sets like the modular buildings.

    Awesome set review! While I think that the price per part ratio is completely insane, I can kind of see where they were going with it. Maybe LEGO saw the whole 2-in-1 thing as a means of almost doubling the price, but I'm still a little confused as they never tripled the price per part ratio for 3-1 Creator sets. Nice surprise though! I totally agree - I really hope that they continue doing that in the future! :D
