this has been a fragment in my memory for 25 years, and I finally stumbled upon it again. there's a cuphead boss fight at the end too. I remember when I first met mugman. what a bud.
Original title seems to have been Silvery Moon (1933), it was rebaptized for tv as Candy Town. It has fine imaginative establishing shots, in the lake and the beginning of candyland, but really takes off in PeppermintLand where dense, clean, high contrast black and white graphics give it a lot of pure visual interest and definitely push its somewhat spacey premise into the psychedelic, if not surreal. Yet another fine Van Beuren toon, far too many of which are in "Forgotten" collections.
