- This trippy tribute to our country's 200th birthday was funded by a Bicentennial Project Grant and animated by Vincent Collins who made other psychedelic cartoons. This film was produced by the United States Information Agency -- the government's propaganda agency.

Man I would not want to be an epileptic in the 70's
lmao
I love this. You can tell the animators actually have taken psychedelics. Its not overly "trippy" which in turn makes it more trippy.
I was 12 years old during the Bcentennial. I remember clearly that a lot of cartoons and commercials of that era were trippy like this. ESPECIALLY kids programming like Sesame Street, Electric Company, Zoom, Big Blue Marble and all that stuff--DEFINITELY psychedelic.
As a kid, though, we didn't associate that trippy motif with drugs. We just figured they made it that way to hold our attention. It worked.
76 was a helluva year, I was just 6 and I can remember many parties and things we were at especially in the summer. The whole country sat down together for fireworks, it was awesome.
There's nothing propaganda-ish about this. This was about the Bicentennial. America was in the mood to celebrate her 200th B-Day(1976).
I was alive and part of it.On the 4th of July, many ships and boats sailed into NY in celebration. It was covered live on network TV
Do I need to be on LSD in order to understand this? Am I missing something?
Patriotism😊😊😊
This video forcibly converts me 0,01% more to be an american each time I watch it.
+Soddarkryder that's funny. information of agency though it could manipulate the youngs by making them trip over thoose funny national symbolics :PP
That was throughly enjoyable. Peter Max all over again. It WAS a great time to be a teenager then!
Thanks for the memories.
dude when the eagle eye turns into the pyramid and then melts into mt. rushmore it reminded me of the time i thought i was an orange and stayed up a tree for 8 hours.
you gotta respect the work that must've gone into this piece of art :D
And THIS is why we invented computers. Hope you all appreciate how primitive things actually were just 40 years ago.
vince collins is a treasure
This style of animation was very common in the 70 s
Some people think it’s strange including myself but I think the title using the word “propaganda” is misleading
This is just a celebration of the bicentennial not unlike the Fourth, it was like a big fourth..
To me, “propaganda”, is a more focused message during a time in need of rallying together for whatever reason...
I agree MrJonbooth. This is more like a Levis Jeans commercial of it's time than the pure propaganda that Nixon/Ford dished out at this time. I liked it. Music graphics. I lol'd,
it's more like a commemoration film
I think for every non-american this qualifies as propaganda
US Government: hey don’t do drugs
Also the US Government:
Love the psychedelic animation and music. This piece is very well done and a lot of fun to to experience! Thanks for sharing^^
yep, that was my senior year in high school; the Bicentennial was a BIG deal. This thing would play between Saturday morning cartoons.
BEAUTIFUL. I wish all ads will be as creative as this nowadays.
all i have to say to this video is, God Bless America!!!
The kind of animation wasn't all that weird back then. Some of it reminds me of the Spy counting numbers sequence from Sesame Street. Also the art looks slightly Frank Stella inspired with the concentric stars. Still kinda cool, thanks for posting!
Some had b&w tvs then and the colorized ones if you weren't well to do, rabbit ears was grainy. This might be more damaging on today's screens. It likely could have hypnotized the weed smokers, drinkers and acid dropping crowds.
Remember the Levi commercials, omg those were so great!!!!
My God! It's full of stars!
This feels like we were being hypnotized!
I think I must be in the 1% of people who enjoys this kind of thing without being stoned.
2:00 freedom burgers
I don't think Vince Collins would appreciate you stealing his video and calling it propaganda. He made this back in 1976, you should look at the stuff he makes now. His youtube account is his name, and he has this same video uploaded there too alongside much of his othet work, new and old.
+PolyesterMoustache
Production of the United States Information Agency... propaganda by definition.
@@alexander7975 lol your brainwashed into thinking that but if it were some other country im very sure you would think different
@@mrbigs4714 calling someone who doesn't trust the least trustworthy government "brainwashed" lol
@@AllyBushell well if you really think about it, is any government trustworthy ? I think not also why do people think this is propaganda ? Why not think of it as a peice of art ? Also your kinda making my point so if the video was about another country to a government of your liking you wouldn't think of it as propaganda ? also why assume that the US government is the only untrustworthy government out there im very sure alot of other governments have dirt on them some even dirtier than the US.
@@AllyBushell I don't know if you just watched the same video I watched, but to me this was artistic expression, and in no way propaganda. I think it's funny that the government funded the video since they were also slamming psychedelics and weed at the same time.
dude, I'm high as shit right now, and there are so many hidden meanings in this shit..so propagandary man.
I was nine yrs old and clearly remember 1976. America seemed so united and proud.
I can remember when the FM radio played music just like this in and around 1976, when I was only 7! I'm specifically thinking of 92.9 KREM-FM in Spokane, WA. What a much better time to be an American!
Time is just the rate at which one perceives reality.
This led to the eventual downfall of the Soviet Union.
Far out Vincent Collins was one trippy cat jack.
Dude my family are hippies and this is the shit they make me watch
Loved the tube spitting out burgers, televisions, hotdogs, and baseballs. Really not hiding blatant commercialism there, huh?
The *20th century* was a decade that began on January 1, 1901, and ended on December 31, 2000 (191st to 200th decades)
The *198th decade* was a decade that began on January 1, 1971, and ended on December 31, 1980.
this isn't propaganda, it's just some stoner's artistic interpretation of american culture
2:24
lol the powerpuff girls were hypnotizing us to love america when we were kids
Joe Hawley Joe hawley jow haeley jha oeweley Joe hawley Joe hawley
need more cartoons like this.
my dieing wish is to get a chance to live the 70s. God, I wish I was a teenager then,
God bless "this" America.
The god of trippy videos, perhaps.
Propaganda? Nah, more like a really well animated homage to whatever motifs were floating around at the time.
I watch this every 4th of July
The US Bicentennial Commission was finally eliminated from the federal budget in the 1990s.
This is what Orange Sunshine was like. Can't we get it back?
i'm not sure why, but after watching this a few times, my eyes glaze over & i shuffle out the door in a trance-like state babbling to myself in a dull monotone "fried chicken . . . fried chicken . . . fried chicken."
I digg the horn of plenty spewing automobiles, junk-food and television sets. Rock on America!
What did Joe Hawley mean?
Thank you SilverRose for being aware!Yes they have always been amongst us!
Among us
@@Cupcatani amongst works too
this makes my brain tickel
this 3 minute video feels like 3 hours after 3 bong rips..
1:40
totally
I don't remember this episode of Monty Pythons flying circus
You Guys Should Check Out Trippy Video #22!!
0:37 Take Me Out To The Ballgame.
God damn that was amazing...why can't that be the America I grew up in, not this whiney, self destroying overly PC and lazy one.
Jared Meekhoff, you are a godamn great American.. even 3 years later
the evil eye followed by mt. rushmore with one president's face missing? ...interesting
anybody know the song>? Thanks in advance
1:11
The blinking buffalo was a nice touch
This is what happens when you take the red acid.
And the white acid.
And the blue acid.
All together.
LOL, this would have been an awesome project to work on. I
thats pretty much how I remember 1976
man I'd love to see this recreated with computer technology. This is one hell of a trip! I'm almost convinced there's some subliminal trickery happening at 2:15... the frame i'm paused on now has colonel sanders on it!
It's like a Schoolhouse Rock! video but they forgot forgot to write lyrics.
it doesn't matter what he was smoking at the time( since it most likely was weed and maybe a lil lsd here and there, but hey i'm a hippie so it doesn't seem that bad...cause its NOT...as long as ur not dumb about it)
its a perfect showing for its time
can I use this video to make a voice over video
What’s the name of that song?
USA & LSD hahahahahhaaha
I want to know what song this is...great freak out.
early 70s, best visual design ever
Those were the days! It was what Busby Berkley would've done if he was into animation. Loved the music.!
Sorry for those of you who don't remember the Bicentennial. Patriotism was all the rage.
Was this aired on TV?
please Im dying to know!
Colbert should take parts of this for his intro theme
Looks like the animation for U.S Blues by the Dead. Same creators? Same batch of Sandoz?
What is this I don't even...
I want to meet the man who thought this whole thing up and wrote the script for this. It's like Dr. Seuss took LSD while watching School House Rock!
I think i remember seeing this same animation with a cool electronic type song, using it as a music video. Am i remembering wrong or has anyone else seen that as well?
what part of that made people not want to do drugs?
i think this was meant as tongue in cheek satire of the US
Yes, I remember this. 35 years since I saw this but by God I remember it. WTF is the U.S. information Agency? When the hell would this be on TV? I know that's when I had to see it.
43 years now, since the bicentennial.
joe hawley joe hawley?
rad video!!!!
Whooooa man I never realized how right on America was maaaaan.
Stop video at 2:21 / 2:22 - what do you see? Other than the not so subtle "pyramid-eye", this "ritual" is a obviously a "hidden" frame, as the normal watcher can't recognize it that fast. Try to watch the scene again and get it conciously - you won't see it.
Seemed to be sending *money* worship to the many.
was this on tv?
@lapomole Two things:
1. It happens several times throughout that entire section.
2. It's not the Jesus cross. The middle bar would have to be raised much closer to the top.
God bless America
I feel like I'll get hypnotised.
The guy was smoking pop art paintings for sure.
Hamburgers, mass culture, materialism and capitalism, great stuff everybody loves right now in our ecologic, heatlh food, failing economy contemporary world. Man the 250th anniversary propaganda videos won't say be the same...
Dude!...*inhales*...this is some great weed!...
So trippy
this video is a interpretation about what he thinks america is doing to the public, its not the government WANTS you to do, its the artists thought on what he thinks the gov wants you to do.
Hunter S Thompson:
"This cartoon is so realistic."
who did the music????
if someone in 70s made this, he probably hav won the oscar for every category existed then.
@crack731 The Eye of Providence?
watch this at midnight leaves you really fucked up in the morning!
What was it? LSD commercial? :-)
Well, this just proved that most people in America were trippin' on everything but their shoes during this time period :D
Gotta love this..........
I like this! Love that music, too. Wow, the eye of the Illuminati in on acid!
You do know that the pentagram can also represent the five senses, the five wounds of Jesus, and is a Christian symbol for health and used to protect against demons and witches, right? And that it only took on satanic symbolism recently due to misinterpretation by ceremonial magicians (possibly because it was called lucifer in Latin, which just referred to Venus, not the devil).
