- Jose Gonzalez stopped by the artist lounge in Cordoba Guitars HQ to talk about his latest tour and try some new guitars. He kindly offered to perform his award-winning song, Far Away, for us on his Cordoba Loriente Clarita and now we're pleased to share it with you! Thanks Jose!
Red Dead Redemption is an absolute masterpiece of a game. That moment when you step into Mexico and this song comes on, its one of those iconic moments in gaming that you never forget.

A friend of mine introduced the game to me, after telling him i hate westerns and then playing the game in new austin, telling him I was wrong this game is pretty cool, he said....just wait till you get to mexico! I understood quickly!

I was so pissed when I played the game through the second time, mainly just to hear this song again and experience that Mexico ride a second time, and my system glitched out and it skipped the song!! :( Grrrrr!!
And then I realized that really, you can only experience that Mexico entrance one time. After your first time it's still beautiful, but it doesn't hold the same magic that first one does.
It really is!
If I ever go to Mexico, I want to have this playing as soon as I get there.
I'd start playing the entire Red Dead Redemption soundtrack midway through Texas all the way into Mexico lol.

This bass walk he introduces to the main verse right around 1:54 is fantastic. A simple variation on the theme that completely keeps it fresh.

this is literally my favourite song of all time. and i usually listen to dubstep.
He plays the same finger pattern over and over with like one or two variations. During the chorus/bridge he changes the chords, but the picking pattern stays the same. He's a weird tuning, from lowest to highest strings: BADABE. Low E goes down to a B, the G goes up to an E and the rest stays the same. The chord he uses in the verses is basically a powerchord on the 2nd fret of the A string. You should be able to figure it out from here.
You almost got me with the "g up to an e" sentence. Was about to pop my string
@@nosacrality1865 detune ur guitar a whole step and put a capo on 2nd fret, it's all relative. That way u don't snap ur g string lol

I remember when i first played rdr years ago and I cried of emotion and joy when I got into Mexico(hearing this song) because of this perfect game.

I saw him live this last August. His tone is insane. He sounded more full then most full bands that I've seen. I've been playing music for 20 plus years. 10 of them professionally. I've never heard anyone that has tone that good. Everyone of his song has a driving rhythm. I love it!

Very nice style! Also, those Lorientes sound amazing. I was convinced that a Ramirez 4NE would be my next guitar until I heard these. They are probably the best value out there now.

If it were close miked I'd agree with you, but that mic looks like it's several feet away. With close miking--say 8" or closer--one gets the proximity effect which enhances bass response, but that mic is much farther away than what would produce that effect. I can say the canon-like low E string on my solid spruce top C10 is the thing--more than any other feature of the guitar--that sold me on it.

It's a Clarita, spruce top.
Amazing.
Well, mainly, it's because for this song, the top string is tuned down 2 and a half tones, which results in a very deep and dark sound.
True its the microphone but keep in mind that he has some pretty impressive chops as well.
The guitar is amazing however good the mic is.

@rockabdechafi4ever ...... how mush? im not sure what you mean there but im 70% sure its an AKG 100, just google it, if you live in the states where gear is ridiculously cheap you will be able to get one for $100, but its a discontinued product, it has been replaced by the perception 120. i would buy one but not for the $300 NZ price tag.

Well, depends on if you are speaking about which sounds better or which makes it easier...but i think Nylon gives the song a better "colour".

NINedStark Steel sounds really nice, I played the song on nylon and steel, but I guess nylon fits better with the original sound.

NINedStark Yeah, you have to use nylon to replicate his tone, it'd be painful for me to hear this with a steel string, haha. But a steel string guitar is more versatile with most genres of music.
