Great comment, @Cherubim Bean!!! I _TOTALLY_ and wholeheartedly agree with what you’re saying, here. I _TOTALLY_ agree with you, on this, @@Thespeedrap!!! Prince was notorious for being an ass in those years, he just was, but from what I hear about his reaction to MJ's death, that he was crying and shit, hell, I loved both and although i was destroyed both times, i didn't cry.
Michael told Sheila E he remembered her from "We Are the World", the project that Prince was supposed to be on.... hmmm. Wonder if this was after Prince came back from CA meeting with MJ to discuss "Bad"?
Also remember the bad ablum was still on the charts from 1987 to 1989 which is the 2nd best selling ablum of all time. So I see why he said what year did u want
For all Prince friendly dissing, i think Michael made the hottest burn of the encounter: "hello Sheila, I havent seen you since we are the world". The one that Prince was invited but didnt appear.
I heard this full interview last year or the beginning of the year, and I still crack up when I hear Cat tell this part of the story hahahaha. She got Prince patronizing voice down PAT LOL
That's the thing though noone ever said that... folks Pitted them against each other due to their epic careers.. neither have ever spoken Ill of the other
In a way? Believe it or not they were closer than what we were ever led to believe! When Michael passed prince closed himself off to the world and those close to him for days! They privately spent time at one another's estates at different point and times! Their so-called rivalry was just that, and a friendly competitiveness from two of the greatest of all times!
@@KinkKitten219LLC I Can't speak on the murder of part pertaining to M.J. because I didn't mention that. But I either read it or saw a video interview recently with a close source of Prince. I definitely didn't recall him being anywhere to be found and never mentioning it as he started to make many appearances. Which actually speaks volumes and he was very likely keeping their friendship sacred even after M.J.s death!
@@donovanredmond8050 isn't it interesting how these conversations about MJ and Prince keep continuing on and on? They are both so well loved and respected by fans that we just want the conversations to keep going. I'm sure both men loved and respected each other also. They were both such multitalents.
I would love to know what these two genius minds talked about, I think they talked more than we know and had equal respect for one another, I have read that when the news broke that Michael passed Prince stopped his rehearsal went to his room and stayed for days. I miss them both!
In a way it was good that Prince and MJ allowed the world to assume they didn't like each other, it allowed MJ and Prince to maintain an honest friendship, pretty sure they could lean on each other, let their guards down, and just be without the thought of someone leaking information about their friendship. And Prince was actually close to the Jackson family. When Prince first was signed, he would spend time at Hayvenhurst and go skating with the family, and develop a crush on Latoya.
@surfitlive all that you just told me was that Morris day was literally just a copy of Prince's swag, made by Prince himself. Morris Day himself is not the alter ego, he was just a guy that Prince chose to sing his song that didn't fit his public persona. I would rather an artist create their own lane.
Prince loved the cameras when he wanted to be filmed. The thing is he wanted to be in control of every aspect of his life and he refused to be used by anyone, especially Jackson's film crew. That's why he was a mess when Jackson "invited" him on stage in front of James Brown. I guess he saw this as a trap. And in a way, it was. We all know Jackson could be a very good manipulator. I'm sure Prince respected Jackson more than the contrary.

I'm so pleased to hear this from a reliable source as well. I was so into Prince's music back in the 80's and beyond. I had the hairstyle, everything lol. I also loved Michael's music too of course! Two of the greatest, very different and I can totally understand Prince being that cheeky, playful type that he was, teasing Michael. Great post, thank you! 💜
Of course prince and Mike were friends and someone in the comment mentioned if prince didn't mess with you, he didn't like you.. Prince and Mike was always messing with each other but to know they went to each other shows and house is one anyone would love to see
OMG my wait is over! I've been waiting for a creditable story of Prince and Michael not being enemies!! I always felt that they would have needed to have a mutual respect and spend some time together because of their status and mindsets. YES, thank you for this, it warms my heart💜❤🤗And there was humor😉
Thank you cat, yes this is the truth, even they have differences they respect each other and they were friends too, I heard that after Michael passed away prince locked himself in his room and didn't come out for a long time.
What Cat said reminds me of that iconic James Brown concert where Michael Jackson asked James Brown to invite Prince up on stage. This was the ultimate set up. Prince got on stage and made arse out of himself! Meanwhile, Michael was in the background giggling! He had to have known that Prince wasn't at his best on that day. Only friends with a good sense of humor would pull a stunt like this! P love💜💜💜
Star Mac Now there is no way Michael could’ve Predicted that Prince disaster. Michael knew James and prince really didn’t and was totally intimidated. They were both in total awe of James Brown. To be real they were both in awe of each other as well. They were also intimidated by each other. Even though Michael wasn’t the king of Pop yet he was the best of the best and along came Prince who threatened Michael in a good way. I loved the hell out of them both but I just wish prince wasnt such a little hater and had done a Collaboration with Michael and it didn’t have to be “Bad”. Today’s so-called artists Most can’t do anything without each other🙄 BTW If that was Katt Williams I cannot stand him he has gone on to make very tasteless jokes about Michael.
Also Michael would on the low make fun Prince in front of Babyface and LA. Like showing them that performance when Mike and Prince went on stage after James Brown concert. Prince almost knocked the light down on stage and Mike had a clip of that and would show people he was close to and be laughing and talking about him. I think Prince and Michael were just very competitive but has mutual respect but would clown each other sometimes. Kinda like how Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali were. In front of the cameras didn’t acknowledge each other but off camera spoke met up sometimes and just had respect deep down for each other. Even Latoya in her younger years said she would chill with Prince and his people in the 80s.
That's just a fantastic hilarious set of stories! Thank you Cat! I think you just laid to rest all this Prince versus Michael and who's better silliness that's just so done with. Also, why isn't Cat in the SOTT Deluxe podcasts, it's like no Sheila, no Cat, no Miko, No Atlanta, Wally, Brooks not even Alan Leeds, no Coke Johnson, no Bennet, and others that were behind the scenes, it's just... I hate when people try and compare them. Michael was singing and making major hits as a child and sounded like a mature adult in his style and delivery, and Prince was at home watching, and teaching himself how to be a entertainer like, M.J. Yes price is a great artist, but Michael is the king of pop because of his great talent and hits. And the masses agree.
This picture looks like it could go down at any second with these two. Prince looks like he's like, "What you want to do?" and Michale, right back at him like, "Well what you wanna do?". Classic photo, I've never seen this pic. Thanks.
I always knew Prince had respect for MJ but the media and toxic fans always made it a beef for no reason , it’s just like How J Cole and Kendrick fans are till this day..... but they will always be compared no matter what !!!
Well karma came in the form of justin timberlake and he didn't like it , I bet he didn't like it when he took it on the record either way , this shows how Michael was really good person
My assumption is that out of everything MJ has done off the wall was might have been Prince's favourite as he covered some tracks live from off the wall after MJ's "death"
Michael Jackson and Prince not ever being photographed together (thanks Prince lol) or having collaborated on a song together (thanks again Prince, MJ tried with BAD) will always disturb me.
Prince stayed alone in a room for days after MJ passed. I think he regretted not collaborating with him and when he died there would NEVER be another opportunity
@@armoniboss8950 That makes sense and is probably why he remixed versions of MJ and J5 songs after MJ's death, sadly that was as close as we would ever get to a collab from them.
Such a wonderful interview and moment with Cat. Thank you for doing this dialogue where she got to express the truth about Michael Jackson and Prince and their friendship where they pranked and teased each other. Lenny Kravitz stated it as well in a dialogue with Naomi Campbell. People who knew Prince said that whenever he heard people demonizing or dissing Michael, he always got angry and reprimanded them harshly. He even threw out fans out of his forums if they insulted Michael. Watch the videos "Lenny Kravitz hanging out with Prince and Michael Jackson". It shows much Prince and MJ were fond of each other. And as for those who have hostile ideas about Michael Jackson, watch the podcasts called "Michael Jackson Case for Innocence", "Red Jackson Dance", "The Mjcast", and the documentaries "Square One MJ", "The Lies of Leaving Neverland”, “Michael Jackson Private Home Movies”, “Michael Jackson Take Two The Footage You Were Never Meant to See”, “Michael Jackson The Humanitarian” and “Loving Neverland”. These sources of information are precious and rich in information that the media refuses to adequately represent.
Album sales don't necessarily reflect talent and skill set. Mike is the man but Prince is self contained...played 23 instruments, composed, produced and arranged his own music! You could leave Prince in a studio alone and a few weeks later have a complete album! I mean a lot of intangibles go into someone's talent not just album sales. A lot of cheesy shit has went Platinum! But Mike was bad, but like Prince said his greatest hit to me was still his Off the Wall album!
@@hangingwithbigjohn8401 MJ 700, 000, 000 million copies. 4 me it dose. But, that's your opinion not mine. I know about Prince don't need a history lesson.

People wanted them to hate each other. Cuz people wanted that competing and rivalry crap. But from what I have heard from others that knew them like Cat said they respected each other and messed around and joked with each other like real good friends
What If Prince secrectly wrote songs for Michael and they did music that they wont ever tell it was like a oath to eachother because they both hated the media
Listen to the song Too Bad by michael Jackson. Sounds like prince did vocals with MJ on the chorus. And it also sounds like like it has Prince's blueprint all over it. It is said that Prince visited MJ in the studio when he was working on the album that the song is on and assisted with this particular song on the low.
Where do you get these stories from, @Chris Gowers? I don’t believe they’re true, really. But, the idea of Prince ever having assisted Michael with the recording of _ANY_ song of his (or, with the two of them even remotely involved in ever having worked on the same project together AT ALL) seems interesting to think about....IF it were a reality, though. This is something new, here.
@@chrisgowers8094, Of course, I certainly know what Prince’s music and vocal style sound like; I am one of _THE_ DEEPEST fans of his music, particularly, since the 1984 film and its soundtrack, “Purple Rain.” In fact, ever since, I have and will ALWAYS consider them as having been EQUALS in their musical talent, though their images and how they presented themselves to the public (the clothes they wore, the overall subject matter of the lyrics to their songs, the way most people perceived them in general) were absolute 180-degree polar opposites of one another. So, how could I _NOT_ know what Prince’s music sounds like? What I mean, is that I don’t hear anything even remotely sounding like “Prince” in most songs that Michael had ever worked on,* not even in the song, “2BAD,” unless you heard something I didn’t hear and couldn’t detect in the slightest. If there ever was a “Prince”-like sound to any music associated with Michael, this was because he may have been _influenced BY_ what Prince was doing at one point, musically, at some time during the 1990’s -- and, he probably had people associated with him who, at one time, also worked with Prince as well, _before_ joining his back-up band -- rather than any direct involvement in their ever having worked with each other. (*The closest to such musical and lyrical influence probably being the song, “She Got It,” in some way or another, one of those which was almost going to be on his “Dangerous” album, I’d give you _that_ one. But, even in this case, the song was more of the _influence_ of Prince’s musical and lyrical style on Michael at that time, rather than the both of them having worked directly with one another on a particular project together, or Prince otherwise having been involved with Michael as far as actual songs, albums, lyrics, or anything else music-related.) Michael had his own individual style, and so did Prince. They were two separate, _unique_ artists in their own right, who just so happened to have a lot in common with one another when it came to a lot of things, including their talent. I see them as having been “two sides of the same coin,” so to speak. Equal in many, many ways and respects, but yet, they were complete opposites. While it is well-known that Michael’s band members played the Prince song, “It’s Gonna Be a Beautiful Night,” during an intermission-break while performing onstage at the “ ‘BAD’ World Tour,” and Prince paid tribute to Michael and his music since Michael’s passing -- at least, on some nine different occasions, or so, especially during his own LIVE shows (my most favorite of such tributes being his remix/mash-up of Michael’s “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough” with the song he wrote for The Time, “Cool,” with wonderful Female vocalists having sung in Michael’s Upper Register, and Prince’s great “call-and-response” segment towards the end) -- to my and most people’s knowledge, they NEVER, EVER worked with each other on any project, as great an _idea_ as that might have been. It’s something that, honestly, many of us would have LOVED for it to have happened (myself, included), but it never did.
"Michael Jackson and Prince had mutual RESPECT for each other." I LOVE hearing that.

Michael told Sheila E he remembered her from "We Are the World", the project that Prince was supposed to be on.... hmmm. Wonder if this was after Prince came back from CA meeting with MJ to discuss "Bad"?
Exactly, they both had a sense of humor & actually cared for each other.
Haha hahah exactly
Prince and Michael Jackson are the 2 greatest musical entertainers of all time. And just like Jimmy Hendrix, they both were murdered.
Whoever did it they will pay for their crimes in the end.
Prince was joking bc it was after Thriller. Funny joke.
Right, as if thats not the biggest album in the world that Prince tried to chase with Purple Rain
They respected one another and brought the edge out of one another as artist's, however the more you talk about them the more you miss their presence
Nice to know that despite the fans and media saying they were bitter rivals, Michael and Prince were actually friends in a way.
Curious to know how you're aware prince closed himself off for days and other people after the murder of MJ? Where did u hear or read this sir?
@@KinkKitten219LLC
I Can't speak on the murder of part pertaining to M.J. because I didn't mention that.
How could they have not had respect for each other ? Both hard working talented icons 🥰
I love this talk cause those days are just golden
I'm cryin'. Cat is phenomenal and hilarious. What a great story.
He never went to Hayvenhurst nor Neverland.. he met Latoya in a public skating sink in L.A
Prince and MJ two of the best artists my favourite was MJ ❤🌹🎤😉👑✌. Prince was amazing to 💜🌹🎤🎶🎶😉🎸The best ever music legends ❤💜🙏
It's always fun to hear you all with Cat. She always has great funny stories to tell. Love it!!! Thanks 4 the podcast!
She so country, but seems like a cool person. She comes on RUclips sometimes !
I don't think she's country just keeping it real.
She’s from Chicago; that’s the Chicago accent.
Coincidentally they were both born in the same year (1958).
....and Madonna too

@@JacksonsLegendary Does it matter?
Where's the irony?
Wow. Morris Day truly was Prince's alter ego. I've heard people say that before, but this story helps me understand what they mean.
nah Morris Day was just tryin to copy his swag
@surfitlive all that you just told me was that Morris day was literally just a copy of Prince's swag, made by Prince himself. Morris Day himself is not the alter ego, he was just a guy that Prince chose to sing his song that didn't fit his public persona. I would rather an artist create their own lane.
Read Morris Day's autobiography: "On Time: A Princely Life in Funk", it's a fantastic book. Thank me later 👍

That’s a funny story Cat had to tell. What a life.
Prince had no love for the cameras lol

This is good to know and I truly love them both ,always. R.I.P. MJ , Prince, and Whitney
P love💜💜💜
😍😍😍🤣🤣

Very cool to hear , but Quincy Jones was saying otherwise and that’s probably where most of the enemies rumors got started.
Even Latoya in her younger years said she would chill with Prince and his people in the 80s.
imagine if you had 4k footage of that entire night of those two. it would be priceless.
Shock 😂 really tho.
That footage would trend if it would leak!
That's just a fantastic hilarious set of stories! Thank you Cat! I think you just laid to rest all this Prince versus Michael and who's better silliness that's just so done with.

Prince is my bro, but album sales don't lie MJ was the King of all times, and Prince knew that. ✨💜💙✨

@@NewChannel9000 insider information. Sorry you don't have any and sorry you can't tell a Prince sound when you here it..
But, even in this case, the song was more of the _influence_ of Prince’s musical and lyrical style on Michael at that time, rather than the both of them having worked directly with one another on a particular project together, or Prince otherwise having been involved with Michael as far as actual songs, albums, lyrics, or anything else music-related.)
Michael had his own individual style, and so did Prince.
It’s something that, honestly, many of us would have LOVED for it to have happened (myself, included), but it never did.
the real question is did prince ever give him the cashmere coat cuz i remember michael wearing one in moonwalker (think about it???)
Now, I listen to pink cashmere differently haha
