It’s crazy how to this day only Empire at war has space and ground combat that you can control. No other game out there has done both, only one or the other.
@@torazoul It even allowed you to build up a city, place every building just where you wanted it to, similar to lite version of Sim City. I wish someone could do a just remake/modern re-imagine of that game.
armada 2526, it even has combined ground and space combat. What that means is that you could send your fleet in and drop off an army to fight the enemy on land whilst engaging their fleet in orbit at the same time if i don't misremember completely, but its been over 10 years since i last played it
Planetary Annihilation has both, but the space combat is very basic if I remember correctly. Didn't think too much of that game personally, much prefer Supreme Commander.
Man, talk about playing as the bad guys. Humanity has lost it's home galaxy so were taking over another. Even if it's already full. This game gives me some Endless Space & Crying Suns vibes. But wait, did Shack even answer his own title question?!
heheh you think that's bad? wait till you see what humans do early on.... however, if you really think about it, they don't have that much of a choice. they are being systematically erradicated from the milky way fighting a losing/hopeless war to save time for those 3 factions that arrive on pegasus, to carve a big chunck of the galaxy in order to bring in as much people as possible, if you consider that humans were the masters of the milky way up to the point they met their match and their tech is kinda stronger than the occupants of pegasus, doing some warcrimes is a no-brainer. If you are interested in playing it, they don't do all bad things, nothing close to the Imperium of Man, the devs have actually put some thought behind it, some decisions i took on my first campaign i'm not too proud of though. Pretty unique game with a pretty unique story.
@@obyone878 But they did. At least to the aliens in this Pegasus. Humans started their invasion of the Pegasus because they are being driven out of the Milky Way by "colossus" aliens.
@@Kirkmaximus Eh. They could have easily tried to communicate, fired a warning shot, anything. Instead, they chose to piss off Humanity by killing a bunch of people. Bad move.
@@obyone878 Once again you are missing the point. There are 3 factions: Colossus aliens, Humans, and Pegasus aliens. Colossus invaded the Milky Way galaxy. Humans can't hurt them. So Humans open a gate to the Pegasus galaxy and invade it. Do you understand now why the Humans are technically the "bad guys"?
This game gives me serious enders game vibes. Not the whole using children thang, but the almost dispassionate way fleets from Earth are being used. Aliens are nothing but a stepping stone to human survival, and human survival is paramount to the player. So violence is almost more valuable then any resource in the game, but it is also something you are almost entirely not involved with other than firing missiles and nukes.
No different that current American exceptionalism. To quote Madeleine Albright "But if we have to use force, it is because we are America; we are the indispensable nation. " Add to that Joseph Borrel's Europe is a garden and the rest of the world is a jungle quote, it is only a small step to humans seeing aliens as obstacles to the survival of the 'indispensable race'....
It's mostly because they are still the most poweful weapons around and you are willing to use them. Even in our modern times we have low yield tactical nukes with little ecological damage that nobody will use because of the taboo. Basically you are declaring that you will do anything, ANYTHING, to win ethics, morality and taboos be damned. If you are braking this taboo why should they believe you won't blow up a planet, or create a galactic plague? And if that's a risk then maybe they should either do it to you first or unite and put you down before you get around to it.
Is this the Early Access version? I have different combat options. Also the enemy loves using cruise missiles on my artillery ships, I'm almost considering just not building them.
Been playing love the game timing/pace. Reminds me of Final Theory same premise as this. The combat is different totally but the expansion goal is the same. Sunday late night solo sort of game. Its ok i like
The Stellaris combat wasn't so bad, because the space travel was fast, but then with the DLC and the updates, they changed the space travel and the combat to be slower, making things more complicated and not as fun, in the past if you fight a more advance civilisation than you, you could destroy their portal relays, stopping them from jumping on you, by winning the fight without even invading a planet, but you cant do that now.
Kinda glad I didnt buy all the DLC then, but it may have be reworked in the main game as well, not entirely sure. I do know AI's are able to use DLC content, and everything I want from it I have to directly salvage or control. Like if I tried really hard I could get a ringworld by going to war for it from a Fallen Empire, oldschool vanilla style. Somethings are innaccesible reguardless. Yes I play Stellaris without the DLCs, they're expensive and it limits the mods I can use, but I still have fun.
I despise most changes since 2.0 and i kept versions from the first release on gog and the mods for them. Id like to learn how to take my 1.6 version from steam and save it since it is drm free, but i couldnt figure out how to do it
Stellaris combat is plain up bad , it's just an visual autoresolve. Even the most recent changes which were supposed to "break the meta" only slightly changed which weapons you choose for first strike wins.
@@monkian Now I would say that is bad, when the app is forced to slow down, when initially you could fast jump to a system to another, making you having real strategy in your approach to invading another empire, hell, prior all the DLC, you could conquer another Empire without even invading a planet, having a planet bombardment, sure, but you only needed to destroy their main fleets to win, and use the weakness of other Empires against them, like for examples, the relay jump gates, I conquer a whole empire doing just that and destroying their three main fleets that were like seating ducks after I destroyed the relays, and Empire always send a construction ship to try to rebuilt the gates but I always could destroy them before they even began the work, after a while, the Empire declare defeat and I could make him my vassal and then annex them.
Off subject but please please continue the Space Engineers: Shipbreakers series. Empire at War brought me to this channel but Space Engineers kept me here XD ❤
Hey Shack, do you plan on playing Terminator: Dark Fate Defiance when its released? Its a RTS set in an alternate Terminator universe where the Skynet we know is instead replaced with Legion?
Remember shack. Its called HUMAN rights. Shack advice for playing the game. I suggest you make relations with the other human factions in the early game ad they sre your ONLY reliable friend and always be the middle ground. Yes i know for some people to go all imperium mode on the filthy xenos but the daras combine fleet dont like that so. Try to balance from purging mode to i shall give you a chance to prove your worth mode
Captain, are you going to take a look at the new Alion’s game. It’s by the same people who made battlefleet Gothic. I’ve had about 10 hours with it and it’s kind of like Xoom was a survival horror
Not a fan of the scripted story idea, takes away mening from your choices, and removes the biggest like roleplaying element. Meaning it takes away from your own story and baggrund, especially limiting if not entirely removing the replayability. Sure there are some consequences to your choices and different technologies. But what if I didn't wanna be a galactic war-ing nation. Seems interesting from a gameplay pov and the graphics looks nice. Wouldn't mind watching a playthrough.
this game is story oriented ... too much text but there is something that make no sence trade politics i took most of the galaxy easily by trade then you get tons of resourse and at some point biomass conquering everything while you conquer everything that becomes your only enemy also it took me a while to figure out how gateways work because i spread too fast weird game
As a European Union member I approve of this game immidietly reason? You litteraly play as a "nation" that is supposed to represent Europian Union..... I mean look at the flag and colour of the "nation"
Altho it seems that Germany took over since your best tactic is Blitzkrieg............. dunno if I should be worried or not but its the *modern* Germany so that means they are a bunch of people who love trees and peace
Was hyped at the start of the video but along the way i realised how boring battles will become to be over time. I'll skip this game and wait for star trek: infinite instead.
Not thrilled on the combat in this game. But maybe this sounds like a good idea for a top 10 or top 5 space 4x games with good/best space combat, video. And no, Stellaris of course is not going to be there.

@@CaptainShack yes shack it does
Nukes are the bad guy option? I mean if were an orbital strike sure, in space thats not worth getting upset about.
Yeah right? There's was worse junk flying around regularly in space, they're practically environmentally friendly up there
And also not very useful... the biggest effect of nukes is the atmospheric pressure wave. In space, nukes are significantly less destructive.
The idea canonically is that they destroy ships so fast they don't give crews the chance to abandon ship and flee.
@@frederickfugglesworth9877 surely then ambushes would have a similar galactic response
