Mine is due in 4 days and I’ve got two essays to write since where I’m applying has a required essay for engineering majors
1. Find an idea
2. Brainstorming aka: timeline of your life & what things changed you and made you who you are.
DON'T search for petty
If you're going to talk about your difficulties talk HOW you overcame them. They want to see your resilience and how you developed as a person.
Don't talk way too much about sports, hobby, mission trip, bad parents, etc. It's overdone
3. Make your essay interesting, something people wants to read
Talk about yourself, like a mini chapter of you and put it all together.
4. Don't waste your word count!
5. Write over the word limit and start cutting it down about stuff that's not important. (Go approx. 100 words over your word count to narrow it down later)

Ahh, i hope you see this cuz I’m late late. But I know you said not to write about divorced parents. My parents weren’t divorced, but they separated. My mom had left us without saying anything for a couple months. I remember the whole day that she left. All the times, once she told us where she was, when my sister and I had to drop off my baby sister to her. She would ball her eyes out calling for her mom when we would take her back to my dads. It was a whole messed up story because my whole family knew she wanted divorce, but told her kids instead and asked us to keep it a secret. We tried but he found out and it was the worst day of my life. It’s been going on for three years now, this mess, but there’s some illegal stuff behind it which I won’t speak of. But would this still be a bad idea to write about. You can be completely honest! Thank you for this video

I recommend The College Counseling Specialist for Admissions/Scholarships. He really can help. His office is in Orange County but maybe he could help with the process online too if you live somewhere else.
Can u write about sports if it’s not about how u improved after a loss? I had an idea to talk about my experience switching from basketball to cross country and track after finding I was naturally good at it. I talked bout after being happy with the switch at first, but then the drop in my school popularity happened since does not have the “clout” that basketball caused me to lose pride and love for running. I then proceeded to talk bout how the memories and bonds made me overcome these feelings and ended it with me being satisfied at our pep rally when we weren’t clapped as loudly as other teams despite having the best record since I loved what I was doing. I discussed my changing emotions throughout the stories by metaphorically using my habit of writing overly optimistic running goals on loose pieces of paper. I’d describe the aging dull faded graphite marks of time goals on old pieces of loose paper I would when I lost pride in running and stopped writing my goals and then the fine dark sharp lines on new pieces of paper when I initially had or regained my love for running.

Heyy soo to shortly explain an idea I have for my essay: I want to write about how I overcame welcoming from a pretty broken family with my only biological brother (this is the basic idea but there are other aspects involved)
