Scorpions is a German band. The fall of the Soviet Union (symbolically beginning with the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany…and thus reuniting Germany) was a huge deal for the world but also excessively personal to a German band (and citizens of Germany) of the time!
Bingo.
There should be another fall in the SU , this one is also for VP….
The fall of the Berlin Wall I remember distinctly. Happened on my 11th birthday on November 9th, 1989. I remember that day quite well.
@@papasilver78I Feel you. I’m American. I was around about 16 at the time. It was emotional for me as well. I cannot imagine how it felt for citizens of Germany at the time! 🙂
@@papasilver7811 like you at the time😊
The people tore that wall down themselves, with their bare hands. It was amazing.
Scorpions are a German band that formed in the 60's and they have a massive catalogue of hits. I heard this song on the radio lots as a kid.
Does it get you in the feels? It gets me in the feels still lol.
No shit??? 🙄
@feldspar3858 yah. Clearly the antidepressants are working. 🤣
@@Nessa_the_Embroidery_Nerdsame. This song makes me cry every single time. Such a masterpiece in my opinion!
Kann ich so unterschreiben
They were such an iconic band back in the day. Still listen to them to this day. You NEED to dive deeper into the scorpions. The fall of the Berlin wall was huge news. I remember this was the talk of the table during Thanksgiving with the family. It's was huge mainly because our family (both sides) are Eastern European. We have German, Austrian, Polish and Russian heritage. The Bober side fled Russia inim 1886. Dont know the reason why, the last member of our family that spoke Russian never talked about it. She died a few years after the fall of the soviet union.
His voice is just beautiful.
I remember. November 9th 1989. My 11th birthday. A day I'll never forget.
Scorpions began in the 70's. They did not break the States until early 80's.Their early material is 🔥 Speedys Coming( 74) 🔥 Guitarist Uli John Roth is far far above their 80's material with Mathias Jabbs. Not even close.
Oh man! I'm not crying, you're crying!
I never leave comments, but this one hit me hard. Scorpions were my fathers favourite band and this one was one of his top 3 songs. I can still hear him whistling to it. Man I miss him.
I needed this.
thank you from romania ^_^
ps: you're doing such an awesome job with your reactions - the open mindness, the chat, the music (and not only) knowledge. all love
I watched the wall falling on TV, I’ll never forget..this song is really remarkable
Their song Still Loving You is my favorite from them 😊
Great reaction guys! Not going to lie, this song always gets my eyes misty. It came at a time of tremendous change in Europe. The Soviet Union was collapsing, the Berlin Wall was coming down, families that had been torn apart by separation due to the Iron Curtain were being reunited...it was a very emotional time. This song became an anthem for this change, and the Scorpions being a German band, it was a poignant statement from a group that experienced that separation and understood the power of the moment.
I'd love for you to do more Scorpions - The Zoo, Rock You Like A Hurricane, Still Loving You (their BEST power ballad, IMHO), No One Like You, The Sails Of Charon...all for starters. Cheers! And lets keep hoping that wind of change keeps blowing for the better of all!!
Definitely check out the Sails of Charon!!!! That track is fantastic!!really rocks out.😃
The wall came down the year I graduated from hs...1990 was a hell of a year. It really felt like we could change things. We're still trying. GenX are a stubborn lot.
I used to hate this song when I was younger. Nowadays it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it, just thinking about what this song is about.
The fall of Soviet Union was a BIG deal for us in Finland.
Klaus voice is just amazing
The song was written about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany
Not true. It was written because The Scorpions was one of THE VERY FIRST bands to be INVITED into the former Soviet Union. It was MADE FAMOUS because of its association with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Ahhhh I'm so stoked it's this song! It gives me childhood flashbacks. A friend lived in Germany at the time and drove to Berlin to take down pieces of the wall.
Scorpions were a 70's band who were very successful in the 80's. This song was about the Berlin Wall coming down and all the other things that led to it.
Morning fellas! I havent heard this song in a long time! I really like the scorpion's! "Still loving you","rock you like a hurricane" and "send me an angel" are great ones to checkout next:)🤓❤️
Scorpions began in the 70's. They did not break the States until early 80's.Their early material is 🔥 Speedys Coming( 74) 🔥
Guitarist Uli John Roth is a god!!!
The wall you see falling at the end of the video is not the actual berlin wall. The footage is from "The wall" performed by Roger Waters in Postdamer Platz, Berlin in 1990. The Scorpions were special guest of that historical concert
When the Berlin Wall came down, the whole world breathed a sigh of relief. It was such a moment for freedom!
Scorpions are from West Germany but they were the first hard rock/metal band asked & allowed to perform in the old USSR, including a huge concert in Moscow. You need to listen to Rock You Like a Hurricane - one of their rock out songs.
Scorps have two guitarists, like Maiden & Priest. There was a time Maiden opened for Scorps.
Klause Meine and Ronnie James Dio were great friends.
Haha! That clip in the beginning the free icp test was funny! Lol. And on a serious note: i totally agree with what yall said about people uniting...we need that more today more than ever!!
My 1st introduction to SCORPIONS was their Live LP "Tokyo Tapes".
That was in '76-'77, since th
en I've seen them 8X. Y'all are going to dig them. Don't forget that they can ROCK OUT TOO!!!
Tokyo Tapes is amazing
As a rabid Carolina Hurricanes fan, ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’ is their theme song. And one of their best songs
But also, ‘Still Loving You’ is a fantastic ballad
❤
Scorpions - rock you like a hurricane
The Scorpions are a German Band. This song is about when the Berlin Wall was knocked down and subsequently the end of the USSR a couple years later.
I was in Germany when the wall fell and this became the anthem for the end of the cold war. The world was full of hope. It's so so sad that we have fallen right back into it.
I was at the Priest concert when they filmed Heavy Metal Parking Lot. It was Priest/Dokken at the Capital Center in Largo, MD. My friends and I ran from the cameras because we didn’t want to be filmed.
"I love a good whistle" LOL
This is their most radio friendly song. They have absolute bangers going back 20 years before this one. They are nothing like Poison. Scorpions are absolute talented rockers.
As a child of the 70s and 80s, I was raised with the concept that everyone was equal, we are all just people trying to live our lives.
Looking at the world now a days, I'm always left with one question..."where did we go wrong?"
Send me an angel is another great ballad from Scorpions
My old boss was friends with them. Every tour, he would be their lighting board guy for a couple of months. Rudolf Schenker, rhythm guitarist and founder, asked me more than once to be his American wife, meaning he had one at home lol. Answer was always no.
I saw the Scorpions when they opened for AC/DC in Dallas. I was excited I got a 2'fer. I'm sure the most popular song from them is Rock You Like a Hurricane. I actually wore this cassette out because of this song.
As others have said, this song is about the fall of the Berlin Wall. For Germans, this was historic. My parents were born in Germany. I remember watching the fall of the wall live on TV as a kid. You just knew how big the moment was. No one said a thing. We just watched. This song still brings a tear to my eye over 30 years later. The Scorpions are amazing and they are still rocking live. They have a many heavier songs out there that you should check out like Rock You Like a Hurricane (probably their biggest hits).
Good one! Scorpions *No one like you* is one of my all-time BANGERS. *Still Loving You* is another amazing vocal. It’s a whole mood.
But I’m sure you’ve heard *Rock You Like a Hurricane.* Prob just didn’t know who it was.
Being in Raleigh, Rock You Like A Hurricane is everywhere during hockey season. Still Loving You is a must. Blackout and The Zoo are great songs to react to next.
"Still loving you" is by far their most popular song. At least it was back in the 80's. Another that I like is "Always somewhere" that's almost a Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple man" rip off, but I love it none the less.
The Scorpions were a German rock/metal band, formed in the late 60's, they lived through the cold war. This song is about the fall of the Iron Curtain, and the hope of the reuniting of the world, but the video cautioned that it would possibly be transitory. Oh, and you most likely have heard at least a part of a Scorpions song, anyone who has been to a sports venue has likely heard the hook, or chorus to Rock Me Like A Hurricane.
All this time I totally thought it was “winds.”😂 Gotta love the trivia!
When the wall came down, it reunited families that had been separated for two generations. My wife’s parents fled Germany at the end of the war and they have never really been able to reconnect. We were moving towards bringing people together back then. It makes no sense that we are driving each other apart more now than ever.
My first introduction to the Scorpions was Tokyo Tapes....their live album of their '70s music with Uli Roth on lead guitar. This band grew up in the shadow of war and the many attempts to rebuild Germany on both sides. They learned English through music and basically starved, gave up the things people take for granted, and never gave up on the dream.
Love you guys. That being said, it brings me physical pain to hear Scorpions being mentioned with the hair bands. 😂 please check out more Scorps. The Zoo, Blackout, Can’t Live Without You, Arizona, No one Like You would be some good ones to start with. Keep doing what you do!
Scorpions began in the 70's. They did not break the States until early 80's.Their early material is 🔥 Speedys Coming( 74) 🔥
Guitarist Uli John Roth is a god!!!
"Big City Nights" and "Catch your Train" are the best lesser-known song by Scorpions
Great suggestions. Both killer tracks!
In Trance, Sails of Charon, Speedys coming etc pp. 😉😁
"Another Piece of Meat", their cover of the Rolling stones' "Ruby Tuesday"
When you know where you come from
To name one track from their recent album.
Btw they will be the headliner on next year's Wacken Open Air. 😉🤘
Scorpions began in the 70's. They did not break the States until early 80's.Their early material is 🔥 Speedys Coming( 74) 🔥
Guitarist Uli John Roth is a god!!!
The Scorpions are from Germany. The band actually formed in the 1960’s, but released their first album in the early 1970’s. They were huge overseas during that time. Their first concert in the US was in my hometown of Cleveland Ohio in 1980. They were one of the bands who pioneered the power ballad. But for the most part, they are a hard rock band. Their most popular song is Rock You Like A Hurricane. You guys may have heard that one. Some more of their songs to check out are No One Like You, The Zoo and Big City Nights. If you want to check out a gem from the 70’s, give a listen to We’ll Burn The Sky.
Rock you like a Hurricane, Big City nights were some of Scorpions hits to name a few, Still Loving You is another
Scorpions are one of the forefathers of heavy metal.
They weren't really in the glam scene. Musically they are on another level to glam. In terms of how they dress they are just from Germany.
Scorpions began in the early 70's.! They did not break the States until early 80's.Their early material is 🔥 Speedys Coming( 74) 🔥
Guitarist Uli John Roth is a god!!!
Rock you like a hurricane is one of their BIGGEST songs.
"Still loving you" was one of their no. one hits in the states. One of the biggest german metal bands worldwide. You have to dig deeper.
I still think "Still Loving You" is their best song but this is a close second....🎵🎼🎶🎸🎹🥁🤘🤘
November 9, 1989. I was a 23 year old infantryman in the Canadian Armed Forces, never knowing if that IT would come; the call that every soldier dreads, but is committed to answer. The world was NOT in a great place, but that day stood out for many of us as it signaled the end of an era; the fall of the Berlin Wall and the (supposed) end of the cold war. This was a song for peace obtained (albeit not a permanent peace, unfortunately). I'm 60 now, and this song is now part of the past, but I still cannot hear it and not have a tear well up; both for the feeling of relief at the time, and for the sadness now at where we find ourselves.
The Scorpions were an amazing rock band.....if you dig deep into their work you will be surprised at the depth and quality of their albums. Blackout and Animal Magnatism are bangers.....listen to "Another piece of meat"....its as good a heavy rock song you could hear . Although this is a great song,it got so much airplay most people identity them to this........a bit like Aerosmith with " Don't wanna miss a thing".......please guys dig deeper, there is so much more.
Love this song! Not heard it for ages! Cheers!
I could easily pick 60-70 great tunes with this marvelous band from the top of my head, you guys seriously need to dive deeper into their back catalog.
When the wall fell, we thought there was hope, and it seemed as though there was.
Now this song fills me with sadness, because it's all going to hell in a handcart.
I remember when this song came out back in 1989, when the Berlin Wall came down.
You’ve definitely heard at least Rock You Like A Hurricane, it’s one of the all time classic heavier rock songs, played on EVERY classic rock station.
Sicksense- Feed Them to the Wolves, please and thank you
Saying their main singer is well known is an understatement from hell. Klaus Meine. Utterly legendary vocalist.
Oh, and this is probably one of the most influential songs of all time.
Scorpions were around early 70s and had some iconic songs in the 70s, (sails of Charon). In the 80s they kind of joined the glam scene with hits like "Rock you like a Hurricane", "No one like you", "still Loving you".
The Scorpions are a German band originally from the west or the unoccupied part of Germany post WW2 pre-Soviet Union collapse or reuionifacation of Germany. They were also known for their concert in Red Square in 1980’s in Moscow where they played with several bands from the west and the Soviet Union to promote world peace.Their typically Hard Rock or Heavy Metal. This was a tribute to the collapse the Soviet Union and communism in Russia along with the removal of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.
Scorpions are one of my favorite all time bands. Lead singer Klause Maine voice is amazing ✌🏽
This song always takes me back into communism fall. If I good remember, this song was "anthem" of the unification of West and East Germany. In the 90s, this song was very overplayed, but now, this song means for me much more than 30 years ago. We still need to be together, but... life isn't a fairytale.
Thank you for this great reaction. ❤
I recomend "Still loving you". Beautiful song.
If you two do already know a Scorpion’s song it would most likely be “Rock You Like a Hurricane”. It’s played a lot at sports games still to this day. Awesome reaction🤘🏼
Great reaction and discussion guys. Please dive into Scorpions. They are one of my all time favorite bands. Their 70s material is my favorite but you really can't go wrong with anything from 1972 thru 1990.
Some harder songs from them are:
Can't Get Enough
The Zoo
Animal Magnetism
Sails of Charon
Dinomite
Just to name a few. Metallica's guitarist Kurt Hammett was hugely influenced by Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth. I could go on and on about this band but I'll leave it right there. Have a great day fellas.
Same.
I can go on forever about the greatest band ever.
70's Uli era is definitely my favorite too
I remember watching the footage of the Berlin Wall being torn down. I cried for joy, for the people there that could reunite with their families that they were separated from for years. The Wall that separated East and West Germany (did you know they were 2 separate countries?Think North and South Korea with less weaponry) was put up in 1961 and came down the end of 1989.
More Scorpions…Still Loving You, Rock You Like A Hurricane, Send Me An Angel, Always Somewhere, No One Like You
From like...86-90 I was the BIGGEST Scorpions fan 😁.
They actually started WAYYY back in 65!! and were big part of the NWoBM (New Wave of British Metal) in the 70s & 80s with Maiden, Priest, Motorhead etc even though they're from Germany.
I guarantee you've heard their song 'Rock You Like A Hurricane' 😉
Scorpions began in the 70's. They did not break the States until early 80's.Their early material is 🔥 Speedys Coming( 74) 🔥
Guitarist Uli John Roth is a god!!!
Again a history lesson in a song (or video as this was). Every single thing they showed in this 'world events' video was big news because we didn't have 24/7 news channels back then and it was just that hard hitting around the world . They were at the Moscow Music Peace Festival on 13 August 1989, at Lenin Stadium. That's when Klaus Meine realized things were changing.
Klaus' voice is really beautiful, I love hearing acoustic versions from them. I would guess though as soon as one of you read that The Scorpions did Rock You Like A Hurricane you'd heard of it, even if you haven't actually heard the song.
Every one of these images is a piece of History during the 80s and 90s. Each one is significant
I got sentimental listening to this after all those years,me being european. born in Romania. I`m glad you actually went beyond the song, it`s a different way to learn history. Great job guys..this song meant alot back in the day, after the iron curtain fell down. Great suff asking yourselves questions, teach others too...
Classic old skool song
Such a fantastic, historic, and momentous song! My German exchange partner in school played me this song and helped make me passionate about studying history :)
Scorpions are still banging out music from the late 60's until current times.
Dudes, when the Wall came down the world had this on repeat
PBS is still alive and kicking today. I watch it.
I was in Berlin with my father shortly after the wall came down. It was an extremely enotional experience. He had been stationed in Germany with one of the artilery batteries who were supposed to hold against a Soviet incursion. He and the men under his command were never expected to surivive if the Soviets ever attacked. 100% casualties were considered acceptable to hold the Soviets back long enough to move troops into place. Walking through the market that sprung up where the wall used to be was a victory for him and it was like watching a weight he had carried for so long that he had forgotten he was carrying it, was finally lifted.
Scorpions was founded 1965, first album 1972 and latest album last year 2022. They still touring and rocking.
Songs like these just show that Rock will always be the best music genre. They just hit differently. Now I'm going to go and listen to Rock you like a Hurricane by the same band.
This came out in 1990 so technically NOT an 80's song, but the group in general sure was!!
Been watching you guys for years. Enjoy your reactions, analysis, and breakdowns.
I really don't interact much with youtube or social media, but since you finally got around to doing scorpions, I figured I'd log in and give a subscribe.
Thanks for your work.
You have to see it with the band's eye's. They are german, getting invited to the USSR at the late 80's together with band's like Metallica, Klaus said once: As a german son of a german soldier of WW2, it was so much more special, for us like it was for the americans.
So he wrote that song and than came the fall of the Berlin wall. Something, the most germans hoped but no one expected.
4 words. THE SAILS OF CHARON
Best sounding live Band...
Lord livs flippin ducks finally Scorpioms!!!!! About time wooooo hoo! Cheers
This was one of the songs to celebrate the fall of the berlin Wall to reunite west and east Germany after 45 years after WWII and the end of soviet union there was also David Hasselhof with looking for Freedom and a lot of others and they made a concert out of it in the middle of Berlin
Scorpions are a german Hard Rock Band since the 60s untill now still on tour
they have a good mix of rock songs and ballads
Still Loving you
Rock you like a Hurricane
Lady Starlight
no one like You
Holliday
withe Dove
big city nights
sting in the tail
The Good Die Young with Tarja Turunen ex Nightwish
keep up that nice funny work here Peace out from Switzerland
Such a huge hit and almost an anthem around Europe in 1990. After the Berlin wall , was torn down in1989 , a concert was held , where Scorpions performed this song , for the first time i think ( cant remember exactly ,) Their early songs , from the 80s when they got really big , is for sure the best ones , and if u do any off them later on , live versions are highly recommended / preferred ) ! Hope U will react to some more . Smokey is right , early 80s , up to the mid 90s i think , they where the best . Klaus Meine is the lead singer . They where formed way back in 1965 , but obviously , with some changes along the way . Looong story lol !
1972 -1984 was there prime years ! 🎸❤️🔥although there recent album “Rock Believer” is 🔥🔥🔥🔥(2022)
Scorpions are a German band 🙏🏻 The wall that was being torn down separated East /West 🇩🇪 Germany.
This song rang out as the Berlin Wall was torn down! This is a piece of History!!
And I still ugly cry when I hear this song as the images of the wall being torn down, brick by brick, hand by hand play in my mind... The Cold War was over. It was an amazing and remarkable time to be alive!
Huge anthem here in Germany and part of our history. A huge wall ("dt. "Die Mauer"), splitting Germany in East- and West-Germany after WWII was torn down, so both countries were reunifacted. That's kind the "soundtrack" to this event! That's why the capital of Germany is "Berlin" again. As the country was splitted, the capital of West-Germany was "Bonn". If you watch the live version (Live At Hellfest, 20.06.2015) you'll see the audience in tears and crying! Litterally! Worth to watch the live version..! A song about hope, freedom and a better future never gets old or boring! *peace
Remember when MTV played music videos, this was all over. They have a ton of songs…no one like you, rock you like a hurricane, don’t believe her, send me an angel…list goes one
What a Great way to start the day…Big Thanks to whoever suggested this, Love The Scorpions 💜🤘🏼 🦂 💫… one of my absolute favorites growing up I would get so happy when they were on the radio! You guys definitely need to do more by them and you’ll see, they don’t belong in the glam metal genre, they came way before like mid 60s and they really weren’t in that mix at all… they were definitely popular throughout the 80s but not glam hair metal lol…
No One Like You
Still Loving You
Send Me An Angel
Rock You Like A Hurricane
…all great ✌🌻😎💚
🌏✨💚Imho … it’s possible to have peace, humans don’t want it. (You know I mean overall right, many of us desperately want it, individually speaking ) The evidence is all around us. If we really wanted peace, we would have it. We’re still evolving and have yet to rid ourselves of our combative nature…we like to fight, we like to be right, we like to one up and be better than…even though ‘enemy of our enemy is our friend’ I think we’re gonna make friends with aliens before we’re going to find peace amongst ourselves. Astrologically speaking we are in the Aquarian Age, early stages, of discovery and disruption and hopes/dreams and friends/community and wild technological advances, we’re going to be in this state of discovery for about 2500 years, the next Age will be Capricorn, and I believe that is where we will start to Actually build a calm and peaceful existence/co-existence with whatever is left of us…there will be peace just not in our lifetimes gentlemen…Until then, keep rockin’ on it helps humanity deal with tension better than anything else. 🤘🏼💫✌
I hope the aliens are metalheads!😎
Every cool dude I knew in high school wore a scorpions tee shirt!
Over one billion views, amazing song.
"Wind of change" is the hymn of the fall of berlin wall. Rock you like a hurricane, still loving you, big city nights... and much more songs.
This is about the fall of the berlin wall and the accustic version is even more beautiful
This is one of my fav songs!! Thanks for the great reaction!!
NEED TO DO, "Still Loving You" with the orchestra it really makes it more wowzers just pulls your heart stringz!❤❤❤❤❤
Great reaction again
Check out: Eisbrecher - was ist hier los? Amazing song and video about us human beings greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
Germans are just on a different level as far as rock goes! Listen to the 6 minute version of - still loving you by scorpions as well that’s an insane song!!!
Scorpions are a German rock band formed in Hanover in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker.[3] Since the band's inception, its musical style has ranged from hard rock to heavy metal to soft rock. The lineup from 1978 to 1992 was the most successful incarnation of the group, and included Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Francis Buchholz (bass), and Herman Rarebell (drums). The band's only continuous member has been Schenker, although Meine has appeared on all of Scorpions' studio albums, while Jabs has been a consistent member since 1978, and bassist Paweł Mąciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee have been in the band since 2003 and 2016 respectively. Most of their hit songs are from late 70's to early to mid 80's.
One of the best band ever, i love them, love from Sweden
I’m trying to remember the album/song and when it was, from the scorpions, but when it was released, France had a baby boom literally 9-10 or so months after it released, haha. Now that’s some powerful music, they made a country have a baby boom, that was attributed to them.
More Scorpions reactions are definitely needed.
Such an iconic band!
Scorpions is a very special band to me. A lot of meaning in their music and lyrics.
