You were right. That was the Berlin wall. The song is about hope and for me as a German I can never hear the song without thinking about the end of the wall. This song was constantly played during that time. The people fighting for their freedom and finaly the end of east and west germany.

I'm German too... never thought I'd ever see the wall come down.

I’m an American and was maybe 12 at the time and this song makes me think of that as well. I’m sure the Cold War was not as ominous for us as it would’ve been for you but we did grow up with air raid drills at school and constantly being taught about the “evil” specter that was USSR. So this time period between 1989-1991 was so… I don’t know if “mind blowing” is the right way to describe it, but the paradigm shift was intense for me as a preteen. This song makes me almost feel what that was like back then. I think the predominant feeling, at least among my age group, was hope for the future.

the "wind of change" they are referring to is the fall of the soviet union and the reunification of germany (scorpions are a german band)

I think this song came first.
But it was referring to the first steps at thawing the Cold War. When Gorbechov was teaching us Russian words like Glasnost and Pereztroika.

My fave Scorpions song! About the fall of the Berlin Wall, & the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union. Still get tears in my eyes, seeing that Wall come down. Thanks for your reaction.

Thank you for this reaction to my favourite band. This is a song about the end of the Cold War. Scorpions are just a treasure trove of incredible music. And quite often their not-so-well-known songs are the most beautiful ones. Listen to In Trance and We'll burn the Sky, the older live versions. Those just blow your mind. Would love to see your reaction to those :)

This is one of the most iconic songs about the fall of the Berlin Wall! I lived through this and it was truly an amazing emotional moment in time! It was a moment when what we stood for made a difference and Germany became unified as one nation under democracy based on human freedom and liberty! Always touches me in the heart every time I hear this song! Thanks for reacting to it!

Love this band. You need some more Scorpions in your life my friend. Lets bring the tempo up just a bit with 'Is There Anybody There?' or faster yet with 'Bad Boys Running Wild' or 'Rock You Like a Hurricane'. For another slow banger try 'Always Somewhere' or 'Send Me An Angel'. All great. Cheers.

Never has a song captured a moment in time, the way this one did.
A brief moment when we, Humanity as a species, lifted up our heads, and for the first time in decades, dared to imagine anything might lie in our futures, besides nuclear annihilation.

The night people on both sides of the wall started knocking holes in it and lots of East Germans went through for a look and meet the west (and some went the other way as well). It was the unofficial end of the division of Germany and the continuing end of the Soviet Union.

That was The Wall, yes. The beginning of the video shows you when it was erected and the end is when it fell. The end of the cold war where the world had hope. Now, we have fallen right back into it, so sad.

Yes, the 90s seem like such an innocent, hopeful time now.
Of course, that wall needed to come down, and I, being from Europe, shed a few emotional tears when it happened, but so many bad things have taken place since then, that this song seems now sadly naive.
      Still gives me goosebumps, though.

    • @miceandmen
      @miceandmen 11 месяцев назад

Same - listening to this song makes me sad now. Back then, we had so much hope that the world would take a turn to the better. Sigh. Humanity just never learns.

The word "Moskva" is the Russian transliteration of the word "Moscow" . There is also a river in Russia with the same name and is why the songs says to follow the Moskva (river) down to Gorky Park. Gorky Park is a literal park in Russia and kind of like our NYC, Central Park and is where the cold war spies of Russia and the US often met. Its about the tearing down of the Berlin Wall and the end of the cold war.
But what most people do not realize is that these ongoing wars in the earth are a direct result of the war between God and Satan and mankind is stuck somewhere in the middle and is why Christ came. That's not preaching, its just the truth. There truly is coming a "Wind of Change - on a glory night", but it won't come until he does again. Love you all.
