As someone who was raised in an abusive home, I can say the way she gives her story is exactly how things progress in an abusive home. She is telling the truth, and he is the one telling a lie on this beautiful woman. What a monster who is looking for sympathy after he committed all his atrocities against his wife. This reminds me a lot about Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Adichie. The way Papa used to abuse and mentally and physically torture his wife and Children. The irony of it was that Papa was a well known man in the Catholic Church loved and cherished by the whole world for his philanthropic nature. The moment he came home, he turned into a monster. Unlike Mama in the book, this woman left when she couldn't take it anymore but Mama stayed on and endured until she started to poison her husband little by little and watched him die slowly. Emeka needs help, serious behavioral therapy. I keep saying it marriage is not a do or die affair, if it gets to physical abuse, just leave so you can live period.
Mama knew when she leaves she would be a nobody and no one would believe her if she told them what happens in their house. So her only way out was to poison him and that was even because of her kids. I can relate; went through hell for nine years. It always starts with small things, eroding your self-esteem gradually and by the time you realize it, you are just a shell of your original self. Emeka is the guilty party. As a victim of domestic abuse myself, there is no doubt in my mind about the ex-wife’s narrative. I have been divorced for over 15 years and my ex continues to make up similar lies, whilst still trying to get back with me. My ex-husband had also Re-married, but that relationship also ended in divorce due to his domestic violence again.

See, I believe that woman. My mom is an actress and she has worked with Emeka Ike in the past. I remember all the times when we would be watching Emeka on tv or some of her friend or sisters and she’ll tell the story of how Emeka Ike fought her. The way she always talked about how bad his behavior was, the things he said and did to her.. I was contracted to write for a US attorney who represented victims of abusive marriages. Everything Emma said were similar to the interviews of the abused clients. I can relate to the couples situation because I am going through a divorce process and I must confess its not been easy because I've experienced all the consequences you mentioned from my Nigerian brothers and sisters. My husband took advantage of me from the day i met him. He financially, physically, emotionally and mentally abused and damaged me to the extent that I lost myself. Yet, most of our friends sided my husband. But I took up the courage to end our marriage after my husband nearly sold our house on 3 occasions wanting to live 3 children to me to relocate to nigeria. Emeka displays the exact characteristics of my husband, a true narcissistic person he is. May God help women that are going through such traumas.

For me, the woman's side of the story seem believable and was delivered effortlessly unlike Emeka were he seem to be overboard. However, were I find it hard to accept was were she categorically said that Emeka's kinsmen came to perform a traditional marriage rites and came empty handed. One thing I Know about ndi Igbo is that, instead of going empty handed to such event, they will rather sit back to avoid shame, no matter your status. Traditional igbo men detest such and they do everything possible to avoid being traditionally embarrassed so to speak. Secondly, what led to Emekas mother accusing her in-law of stealing was not stated. What actually led to it? She never point out the reason for such demeaning accusation. Ten years after a divorce and he has not moved on and now their children are in the boxing ring. Emeka needs to stop the vicious circle of madness, he is not the first man to be divorced. Really heartwrenching but there are many Emekas in our society ruining their families and blaming the wives they abused for their failures.
As someone who was raised in an abusive home, I can say the way she gives her story is exactly how things progress in an abusive home. This reminds me a lot about Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Adichie. The way Papa used to abuse and mentally and physically torture his wife and Children. The irony of it was that Papa was a well known man in the Catholic Church loved and cherished by the whole world for his philanthropic nature. The moment he came home, he turned into a monster. Unlike Mama in the book, this woman left when she couldn't take it anymore but Mama stayed on and endured until she started to poison her husband little by little and watched him die slowly. Emeka needs help, serious behavioral therapy. I keep saying it marriage is not a do or die affair, if it gets to physical abuse, just leave so you can live period.
Mama knew when she leaves she would be a nobody and no one would believe her if she told them what happens in their house. So her only way out was to poison him and that was even because of her kids. She couldn’t stand him abusing her children as well. All in all, both women found different ways to free themselves. Just imagine what some people are saying about the woman coming out to speak after all these years, calling her a liar! Someone who never for once spoke a word, when this man was granting interviews upon interviews to tarnish this woman’s image. Someone who became your wife at such an early age. My question is, if she truly is what they think she is, would she have been this quiet? Society is messed up! When the man was out there talking, how many bothered to ask for evidence of things he accused this woman of? The newest story/accusation Emeka can come up with is that Emma was seeing another man (we sabi the format). Not only that, he is good at manipulating people and also a pathological liar. Everything the woman said is true. She was even lucky that she came out alive. Unfortunately, mobile phones were not in huge circulation as at that time as they are today. Otherwise, she would have had a lorry load of evidence against him. Some people support Emeka because the Nigerian society favours men more while underrating women as second class citizens or their only place is in the kitchen. Emeka is not as good as people are made to believe.

I have been divorced for over 15 years and my ex continues to make up similar lies, whilst still trying to get back with me. My ex-husband had also Re-married, but that relationship also ended in divorce due to his domestic violence again.

You had no time to influence this boy because he was in his father's custody .Yet at that time, we did not see anyone put out ring light to speak for your matter. But the moment you saw that the violence moved from you to the kids ( typical of abusers to continue the abuse psychologically by hurting those you love most) ,you rightly activated mother hen protection. These were the same people who asked the late Osinachi why didn't she didn't speak out or leave, but what society is not ready to hear is that with domestic violence, there comes a time when all conventional family standards and titles such a father, husband and even human being, need to be put on hold . I can relate to the couples situation because I am going through a divorce process and I must confess its not been easy because I've experienced all the consequences you mentioned from my Nigerian brothers and sisters. My husband took advantage of me from the day i met him. He financially, physically, emotionally and mentally abused and damaged me to the extent that I lost myself. Yet, most of our friends sided my husband. But I took up the courage to end our marriage after my husband nearly sold our house on 3 occasions wanting to live 3 children to me to relocate to nigeria. Emeka displays the exact characteristics of my husband, a true narcissistic person he is. May God help women that are going through such traumas.

For me, the woman's side of the story seem believable and was delivered effortlessly unlike Emeka were he seem to be overboard. However, were I find it hard to accept was were she categorically said that Emeka's kinsmen came to perform a traditional marriage rites and came empty handed. One thing I Know about ndi Igbo is that, instead of going empty handed to such event, they will rather sit back to avoid shame, no matter your status. Traditional igbo men detest such and they do everything possible to avoid being traditionally embarrassed so to speak.
Secondly, what led to Emekas mother accusing her in-law of stealing was not stated. What actually led to it? She never point out the reason for such demeaning accusation.
