I think that hell ember burned himself with the arms factory because his wife got with the lawyer (one that we play in the game). Gardener is depressed because she lost her father at a young age (also known as hell ember) so that’s why she talks to that scarecrow. The doctor was very successful with her career until she failed to save a patient doing operation. She was so caught up by her mistake she didn’t want to fail again so turned evil and used hell ember’s deceased body to experiment with. She wanted to make someone live forever and soon succeeded. With the help of Jack the Ripper, they made hell ember into the monster he is. I don’t know if this is correct but I’m just trying to explain the info I have of the story behind Identity V.

Every character could somehow connected to each other. Some of these survivors/hunters come back from the dead such as Leo, Emma, Joseph, Michiko, Ann, Servais, and more..When these survivors joined the “game”, they became dolls. When injured, they can be fix & heal and things like ripping their legs or arms won’t kill them, but if something is wrong with their heart, they will be permanently dead. Hunters will be given a power that give them a chance to have dominance in the game. 1st, the detective in the story who claimed he felt like there were two person inside his body, are actually one of the hunter or possibly the owner of the manor. Somewhere around the detective have a portal that leads to the other world, include the manor and the power given to players that participated in the “game”. 2nd, Emma Woods is Lisa Beck, the girl that got killed by Linda (Emily Dyer), an uncertified doctor that was trying to give Lisa an electroshock therapy to cure her illness, but Linda failed, resulted in Lisa’s dead. (Linda or Emily, open a small clinic to treat patients. Also take note that Emily is a quite selfish person and doesn’t seems much caring like she is in her diaries) 3rd, Leo was burned in a fire located at the arms factory. Before he got fully consumed by the fire, he barely see the face of Lisa, hugging a women who assumed to be Martha, Lisa’s mother. 4th, the new hunter, Ann, said before she died: “The consciousness makes it hard to tell whether it is a miracle or a call to true evil” to the pair of dark yellow eyes staring at her. 5th, there are actual prizes that were given to survs & hunters if they win. But even though the prize were given to them, it always not fully what they need. 6th, if you were to step outside the manor, you are dead..or you would be taken back, theres no escape. 7th, the manor have an obstacle that outside person can’t see, and they saw the manor as an abandoned place with no one living in there, but if anyone who were given the letter, the way they perceive the manor is much differ. 8th, (remember back to the portal) When the detective enters the manor, no one are in there. But if he flip open the diaries, stories come to life. 9th, the missing girl that the detective was looking for are a survivor, and the paper airplane that were found was actually from the little girl, giving hint to whoever reads it that she is still alive but she can’t escape the situation where shes in. 10th, there might be a possibility for an end to this game.

The daughter went to an orphanage, which is supported by Thief, after running away from the fire. The doctor though, performed illegal therapy and treatment for Gardener's past trauma. Both Leo and Gardener knew their father, and daughter survived, gone to the mansion to get their wish full filled. The lawyer came to the mansion, for revenge of his dead wife as seen when he looked into his wife's picture.

@@wghybrid5863 Whenever you open up the book in game, you know how you are able to switch between characters? Do that, but once you reach the character page, click on "deductions". Once you complete all of the deductions, you will unlock their deduction stories, which have those cutscenes in them. Right now, only Doctor, Gardener, Thief, Lawyer, and Forward have deduction stories
