  • This is part 1 of "8 Energy 5 Steps 13 Postures", 八門五步 十三勢 by Master Byron Zhang. In this video, Master Byron Zhang shared his interpretation of the 8 gates, 5 steps and 13 postures in Tai Chi. Note that other Tai Chi styles or other levels may have different interpretation of this same topic, we hope people can appreciate this version.

It is important we share our experience and discuss the best way to learn Tai Chi. We don't want to lose the traditional martial arts treasures, we want to improve them by developing better skills and enabling better learning.

Thank you for the invitation, unlike many of Byron’s students, I am just learning so I doubt I can contribute much to benefit higher level. Myself is an experiment to see if someone can learn with the following assumptions:
    1. someone who never practiced any form of martial art in their life
    2. someone very busy with other things (very limited dedicated block time).
    3. someone with exposure to Byron’s proper instruction.
If the experiment goes well, if I can learn it, then anyone can.

If you can keep up the taichi structure while standing, walking, sitting, and laying down, I'm sure you will be able to use the form properly.

As for the meeting, I am interested on the ideas of organizing Tai Chi Push Hands conventions/meet up every year. What do you think?
