I connected with my husband when I was 13 and he was 15. We shared Dylan albums, spent hours listening and talking about all of these songs, the meaning, the activism, the poetic genius of Dylan. Meanwhile my two teen-aged bothers were learning guitar and chose Dylan song books to learn cords and lyrics. When I was 17 we married, had 2 children, We saw Dylan live 3x. My youngest son saw Dylan live when he was 20.

They're wearing head scarfs because it was raining. This cut appears in the film and album "Hard Rain" but not all the songs appear in both. This is track 6 on the album but the ultimate performance (for me the best of all time) is the closing 9th track 'Idiot Wind' which goes on for just over 10 minutes. You'll be sorry if you never see it, it's blistering.

Like two completely different songs. I like what he does with Maggie's Farm on this tour. And there's the live version from '66 that's like a third version of that song. But Rolling Thunder is my favorite Dylan era.

"Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
    Come in, she said
I'll give ya shelter from the storm"
Etc

Bob was (and still is in some respects) just a total
    “badass” a straight up G.
    Positively fearless .
He not only remembers the way he paints his compositions as recorded etc etc when he gets bored with how he did he had/has the ability to completely change/rework them and sometimes totally unrehearsed like Jazz on the fly .
Tom Petty essentially said when he and his band ie The Heartbreakers backed Dylan on tour… that they would rehearse a track with a certain arrangement and in a certain key… but that quite often… when it came time for the gig… he would throw them all off by completely changing all of it on the fly… without even telling them… including actually busting into songs that weren’t even on the set list… and that they never even ran through before the show or ever had played together. Petty basically said they were playing like their lives depended on it standing straight right on the edge of the cliff… having no idea what he was going to do… or what was about to happen next… and when it was all said and done… they were just as surprised and amazed as everyone else .
If you want to see an example of him shaken it up and movn n groovin around during a performance and make an old masterpiece and render it into a completely new one live in concert… check out
“Hard Rain”… from the restored footage from the “Rolling Thunder Review” Tour chronicled in Scorsese’s film of the same name . That performance is off the hook not by the book 🤙🏽🙏🏼

My favorite Dylan story was how he showed up at the back door of his concert in Medford,OR and was denied entry from the bouncer. The guy didn’t believe he was him ( maybe because of the mustache ) and Bob had to make some phone calls to finally get let in.

In 2022 it was sad because he couldn’t make it to center stage and held on to the piano. But the show was still fantastic.

It's important to note that Dylan relentlessly changes context for his songs, so they always are different, often radically, from how they appear on record. This is a rock version of Shelter from the Storm live. Also by this point "Electric" Dylan had already been a thing for a while, but it is still an enormous departure from the acoustic version on his brilliant album Blood On The Tracks. For me, this is Dylan saying "don't expect me to always be pretty like I am on the record".

My advice to you on Bob Dylan, unless you're there at the actual concert, never react to his songs from a live performance! They're day&nite difference from studio versions! Studio versions are beautiful, the music quality no comparison, and the lyrics you just have to hear. Sorry, just being honest! It is definately an honor being at a concert of his but it's basically all noise.
