I really enjoy these recordings from the 50s. We owe a debt of gratitude to all of these great performers and the people that had the foresight to record them for posterity.

Power fact: In 1947 Ernest Tubb was the FIRST to bring electrified guitars and instruments to the Grand Ole Opry. The next time something similar happened was when B Dylan went electric at Newport folk festival in 1965 with a Fender Strat.

I've many videos of Opry 50's Shows. I'm sure I have all Ernest Tubb but forgot Hawk and the
'whip set' Did you see Jean Shepard watching him. Also on the end next to Hawk when they
    were married. Thanks!

Wish I was raised during this period of America. People dressed nice. No swearing. Women actually looked like they kept themselves up

I love the old country but I can tell ya I have no idea what they saw in Earnest Tubb, he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket good lawd he was flat.

I agree with you on that. One of the draws of Tubb was his band. He had some great players, especially Buddy Charlton on pedal steel. I think Buddy Emmons once played with Tubb too - not sure. He had a great band. A lot of music back then was based on the lyrics, and not so much a great singing voice.

That's not a "pedal" steel guitar. This is a steel guitar, like used before pedals were introduced and became popular. The player in this video, Jack Evens, eventually become a pedal steel player. If you look up Ray Price singing "Invitation to the Blues" here on RUclips, you can see Jack playing a Bigsby Pedal Steel Guitar. I really like that version too. Ray Price employed some of the best pedal steel guitar players in history, to include two GREATS - Jimmy Day, and Buddy Emmons.
