  • Living under the constant threat of violence has a lasting effect -- even after you escape from danger, says writer and refugee advocate Zarlasht Halaimzai. One of the millions of people worldwide who have been forcibly displaced by conflict, Halaimzai now helps others overcome the devastation of war. In this poignant, vital talk, she articulates the lingering trauma of being expendable -- and shares how belonging to a community can help bring back feelings of long-lost safety.

    She sounds much more mature than her age allows her to be. And the way she spells every word is amazing. She didn't just make a speech, she wrote a book.

    Losing your freedom leaves a big hole in your soul. Being a refugee is about being forced to leave your land which is the total deprivation of your freedom along with your people and country. en masse. This is a very difficult experience in life, especially for children.

    Arabic countries should take example from Poland how to help refugees from neighbouring countries affected by war.

    • @atlas956
      @atlas956 2 года назад +6

      if i may remind you, during the entire refugee crisis of 2015 literally until the war in Ukraine erupted, Poland firmly rejected taking any refugees at all from the middle east or north africa. Supposedly, even now polish officials are rejecting non-christians and people of colour fleeing from ukraine at the border. They might do a great job at helping most refugees they receive from Ukraine, but the government of Poland in general has some questionable attitudes regarding refugees that i‘d deem not fit for taking an example from. In additions to that, the situation i neighbouring countries can be extremely variable. for example, Lebanon received millions of refugees from Syria over the years, which is a problem for them because the country is tiny. Also, infrastructure and political stability do not always allow for crisis-free humanitarian aid as it was mostly the case in Poland. So, please accept that while situations may be terrible, telling people to ‚take example from x country‘ really does not work for most cases.

      You mean Poland who accepts Ukraine refugees but not Arab refugees. That Poland.

    • @ThePawcios
      @ThePawcios 2 года назад +1

      @@ricardop9196 Status of refugee is granted for people fleeing war to the closest safe neighbouring country. How those Arabs get to Poland? They come to Belarus as tourist, Belarus is a safe country and all illegal attempts of crossing the border were blocked. Let's face the true they were no refugees, just ECONOMIC MIGRANTS

    Well.. peace is something worthy that cannot be changeable with anything. Also, I agree the need of help for war refugees and feel deep sadness about their situation. As we can see in many historical case, however, there is no peace without power. If any gov doesnt invest weapons and national defense, our beloved ones and neigbours who live next door will be in the same situations where millions of refugees live. Once, with hope, many people belived there will be no more war between democratic contries because of economic complexity of modern capitalism. But Russia-ukaraine war outbreaked. I think the only thing that restrains war is enough power to give economically and militarily enormous damage enemy.

      As a child all I wished was not hear the sound of rockets but it was impossible, of course I didn’t wish for the prettiest dolly.
      I remember only one of those bombing days we were bombarded 27 times. usually in 24 hours we were bombed 4 or 5 aircrafts but one particular day the Taliban aircraft bombarded our city and particularly our area 27 times my friends got killed, my neighbours got killed...
      When the Taliban captured our town they gathered all the women and girls from rural areas and shipped them to Pakistan and Arabic countries and the Taliban either shot the men in our town, in front of their families or they took the men with them and vanished them forever then people found a mass graves of course not real grave but just field with men lying under the ground.
      But our city was resilient, resisting and our men were fighting we never given up. the last city to be captured by the Taliban after 4 years of battle was our city, our men was killed, exhausted and run out of weapons. I am talking about last time (25 years) ago when Taliban first entered Afghanistan.
      Almost every day and every night the aircraft bombarded our city I mean only bombarded the city not the rural area. The city is not as huge as London of course it was only the size of one tiny part of London or one borough of London every second we were waiting for our death everytime the aircraft bombarded our city the whole house shook the huuuuuge noise and the dust and smoke covered everywhere if we had glass windows the glass shattered but luckily we didn’t have glass windows, I don’t know how am I still alive and how did I survive But the fear of being killed wasn’t as bad as the fear of being transported to unknown place by Taliban as a 14 year old girl I was praying to god almost 24 hours please “ please protect me from these animals”
      The worst thing was when I lost my cousin. he was my best friend we grew up together playing together he was killed by a rocket got hit in their yard and I remember everything just like yesterday😢💔
      When I moved to London after long and chaotic journey i was happy. hey, there is no bomb, no fear of Talib take me away to anonymous places and we have food and warm house this is more than I wished for. But I was dying inside day and night, fear, lonely and lost and I didn’t know the language, feeling outsider, and going through with immigration rules and paper works, life in Britain was worst than life under the bomb of Taliban I have been in London for 20 years I have kids but I wish I was dead under one of those bomb but not be so humiliated as a refugee and away from family and just be treated like a criminal in an immigration office😢
      I think that’s enough, obviously I cannot fit everything here it is just a brief lines of any immigrated Afghan girl’s life😢
      Whoever you are and from whatever country you asked me I really appreciate it for wasting your time and feeling curious about my life under the bombs and my life in Britain 😢
      Thank you 🙏
