  • The Victorian Goldfields Railway is a heritage tourist steam railway run by volunteers in regional Victoria, It runs every Sunday and some Saturdays. The railway was originally opened on June 16th, 1884 and was closed in 1976. It was later reconstructed, and by 1986 the railway was fully operational.
    The railway is roughly an hour and a half drive by car from Melbourne and starts at Castlemaine Station.
    It operates between the gold mining towns of Castlemaine and Maldon and passes through the town of Muckleford. The railway is a 1000 600 millimetre or 5 foot 3 inch broad gauge single track line which branches off of the mainline south east of Castlemaine station. The total route is roughly 17 kilometres or 10.6 miles which takes about 45 minutes to complete
    the video starts at a level crossing south of Castlemaine station after the first shuttle of the day.
